I am trying to refrain from listing a multitude of bugs that, in my honest opinion, should never have made it into a game released for sale.
I played briefly in season 1, where I stopped and returned to D2R as D4 just wasn’t interesting or fun.
With the release of Vessel of Hatred, the enhancements made the game seem like it would be worth the time invested.
Starting season 6 past the mid way through, it was enough time to get a feel for the mechanics of the already played character class where it was levelled up to paragon 260 or so.
Coming into season 7, I notices 3 paragon points missing from the character class and confirmed it was just the already played character class.
Starting the other classes and skipping the campaign instantly granted the 71 points, just not on the original class.
Taking the knock, I created a new character that did not skip the campaign and proceed to complete the entire campaign (something that is easy when you have mythic uniques and passive auras that one shot kill NPC enemies).
Two days later, having gone through almost the entire caimpaign, my impression of D4 is less than favorable.
The campaign constantly forces wait mechanics, scripted actions that have no real purpose and is generally a waste of time. Watching the youtube compilation of these cut scenes made into one movie is far more enjoyable.
The staggered progression is made even worse by the fact that steps to complete a quest task becomes impossible because the quest timeline action disappears (which was also present in season 1).
Currently, in “The Way Out is Through”, the progression gets blocked because either the tree takes “damage” if I opt to go after the monsters required to kill and it is then not possible to walk over it as the tree falls but does not form a path - or, if I make sure to stay engaged with the tree only, it falls but then requires another task to kill to kill the monsters which are already killed.
D4 needs to decide if it is a point and click adventure game reminiscent of tiles like ‘monkey island’ or problem solving like ‘myst’ or if it is true to its own history of hack 'n slash.
These dialogues, interrupts, and forced story lines with broken mechanics are annoying enough to make me want to never do them again.
For example, killing Lillith, this has to be done every season (am on my second season of this), and it is a choreographed sequence - go in strong enough to kill the boss quick enough but have to do the sequence of an invulnerable enemy whose damage output is exploded to proportions that cause the strongest endgame character to die if the dance sequence is mistimed or done incorrectly.
It is not a challenge in this state, just a dull, annoying task that has to be done.
Please fix fundamentals so the game respect your players time and recognizes that they are not stupid, remove the forced dialogues with no option to skip (or even see the progress), change the choreographed combat sequences into the scaled difficulty encounters as promised in the release videos. Lastly, fix the ability to go into a new season without having to do the same old routine that is done countless times in the season just to get started.
