Campfire 21/07 - Thoughts

36:00: “We know it’s bad, we know it is not fun, we ourselves know it’s not the greatest play experience for players out there.” -AF

This isn’t Diablo one, it’s Diablo four this series is decades old by now. I find it hard to believe Blizzard are still making these “Mistake” patches.

36:36: “We don’t plan on doing a patch like this, ever again” -AF

Who are you kidding. Honestly.

JP then goes on to talk about why they nerfed stats, using how people are having to use very specific builds to reach top level NM dungeons. He mentions how NM dungeons should not be used as an end game push gameplay method - however they gutted armour, survivability and they didn’t actually nerf a lot of the op builds (Poison rogue/shrednado) All they have done is make the weaker classes/builds even worse for two of the first weeks of the first season.

They could have used the eternal pre-season time to bring up classes/builds suffering, instead they chose to make them suffer more and ruin even more builds/classes at the same time. They resolved nothing with this patch in terms of the examples they use to justify it.

Also with them admitting NM dungeons should not be an end game pushing content, then what are we supposed to be doing in the end game? You do the story and then no viable content (According to the devs) until lvl 100 and then you try Uber Lilith? There is no game here.

47:00: Vulnerable being a must take stat, yeah you made a stat that not only increases your damage by 25% (By the effect on the enemy) but you had it as a multiplicative with huge item bonuses. There is no way this could have been a mistake, why are poison/chill not treated like this? It was always going to be an op stat, testing should have prevented this. Now we’re all suffering for the oversight. It was just really bad design.

49:00: Again saying NM dungeons are not a viable play method as you can be one shot, insta/perma cc’d to death. I don’t appreciate being told this by the people who made the systems/game. You should have tested high tier dungeons before launch, or at least nerfed that for season one, not making them even more difficult by nerfing the player base so heavily.

The mission statement - word salad, a lot of these problems cropped up, and were already addressed with Diablo 3 iterations. They should have learned the first time round.

55:00: “It would be great if we knew” -AF Players knowing they’re going to receive huge nerfs wouldn’t have helped, Barbs have been getting nerfed since launch to the point were it’s a joke on every campfire/youtube video/reddit thread. Yet you nerfed them again. You need to be listening, actively, and stop draining all the fun out the game.

58:00: “We’re taking a long look at the Barbarian and Sorceress aspects” - JP You know they’re suffering, but did a game wide nerf on multiple aspects of the game. Crippling a lot of players. Bringing under performing classes up to speed should have been the focus. I’m not saying “Buff everyone, don’t nerf” What I’m saying is by your own admission these classes are not performing as intended. Why bring everyone else down, just focus on fixing the issues not hiding them.

59:25: They all discuss how important monster density is, this isn’t the pitch meeting, this is the forth Diablo game. How do you ship it with anemic monster density. The worst part about this section is how they address it like it’s obviously a part of ARPGs - They’re the only people who forgot that!

1:01:00: Inventory concerns - They just add a stash tab in 1.1.1, the previous chat they literally mentioned it couldn’t be done until later in the game cycle. They have added a bunch of hearts (Gems) to this game and the inventory stash is just terrible. You had extra tabs in D3 no problem with seasons, are we to honestly believe you can’t do it in D4 (This is the same with loadouts, this is already something you solved in D3 and should have foreseen with D4)

I’ve just stopped playing, I made my season sorc and the game is just not fun. Going from dungeon to dungeon doing annoying objectives/backtracking to unlock aspects/renown, just leveling up slowly.

If an item drops, and it’s a legendary, it’s often a lower ilvl yellow with bad stats and a random aspect on it. In D2/3 you got your early legendaries, you would link it, it would have huge stats on it, you might have even used it for 10/15 levels. In this, it can be lower stats than your current yellow and have a useless aspect attached to it. Making it totally useless and generic.

So I’m not excited for loot. What am I doing it for?

I’ve always been a massive fan of Diablo, but this game is so empty of content, it’s vast, but extremely shallow. This game offers no excitement, I need to scan hundreds of yellows to find a decent item, I don’t want to do that when leveling, you out level it so quick. Legendary items just don’t exist anymore, they’re just customisable yellow items. This game feels flawed on a core level, it feels like a knock off Diablo game. So disappointed.

If there is one thing i can say for the community it’s that i can clearly see the dedication in study of subject matter.

I cant really reply with anything i have not replied to with before in regards to how the development is going as it currently stands, but i must say that people like yourself who watch a video through and through and note timestamps & more followed by summarizing their take on it with a detailed level of clarity is quite great xD

Yeah, I’m not usually a forum guy, I don’t know this campfire chat just really got my back up I guess.
