Connection issues with Diablo 4 using mobile hotspot 5G EE network on Laptop

During the hours of 3pm and 10pm BST/GMT connecting my laptop using 4G EE or 5G EE always seems to lose connection within gameplay. Everything works apart from characters running on the screen and mobs all stand still. I can still access my inventory check the map talk in game chat. but nothing else works gameplay wise everything freezes.

I have excellent internet connection running at around 40mb Down / 9mb Up with low latency.

After 10pm it seems to run much smoother with literally no lag/cut outs and my internet connection stays the same as during the day.

Even when im having issues with the game i am able to chat in game, use discord and surf the internet so it must be a server issue for connections through hotspots.

Anyone else have these issue. Im using EE on 5G in the UK on a Steelseries Laptop.

If it’s happening between specific hours, that could be provider-level throttling or traffic shaping, but that’s not something we’d have any insight on. What you could do, is run a WinMTR test while you’re having connection issues, to check for latency spikes or packet loss, and use that information to reach out to your provider to have them take a look

While there are no specific test IPs for Diablo IV, you can do the test to the Diablo III ones and that should still yield useful information.

I’m having this exact same issue. Log in using my mobile hotspot. Sometime get 20 mins of gameplay before it freezes sometimes only a few mins. So frustrating :disappointed:

So this problem also occurs on those using EE FWA (fixed wireless access, a fancy name for a 4g/5g router in a house).

I suspect the problem is that EE run a IPv6 network and Diablo4 runs IPv4 only (it appears), as such EE are 6to4ing us and we are constantly hoping gateway servers causing disconnections.

Sadly theres not alot Blizz can do except making the game IPv6 enabled, EE have also stated they wont fix the problem as games should handle changing IPs gracefully.
So complain to EE tech support, and play on a VPN is the best options atm :frowning:

That may well be the issue then as I’m on EE mobile network. Strange though as I used my hotspot during the Beta with no issues at all.

TBH i was also ok during the betas. I came back from holiday and noticed WoW was screwing around aswell. I suspect they changed something between May 20th and 1st June.

Ive got tickets open with them, but grinding my way through L1 support is depressing.

yeah i also had no issues during the server slam, Just issues on day of release i purchased the ultimate edition thinking fantastic ill be able to get a great head start - but not at all been disconnecting more or less every 15 - 20 mins. I would just like it to run so i can grind my way to lvl 100.

I am also having the same issues with this on EE 4G Home Broadband and I play on Xbox Series X. I’m going to try a few router settings (IPV6 or Prioritising gaming traffic, etc)

Yeah i am getting the same on my EE very frustrating hopefully there is a fix soon for this

Would u need to use VPN on the phone or on the laptop?

Ive kicked off a thread on the EE community titled “4GEE-5GEE-IPv4-gateway-changes-affecting-Diablo4-WoW” (catchy i know) i cant post the direct link here. If people would post on this that they too are having the issue, maybe include your region/town so they get its not a local issue.

Perhaps a public shaming might get 3rd Line involved :slight_smile:

This is pretty low end - remember its Mega Bits not Mega Bytes. Also need to factor advertise v’s Actual

I have seen this post @poag on the EE forum, it’s such a frustrating issue. Ruining the game, I’m going back to ethernet over power adapters and a 10mg old connection tomorrow

Having the exact same issue using EE 4G router. I’ll get between 2- 10 mins of gaming before disconnecting making it all but unplayable. No issues with any other online games or services.

I have found a fix i needed to purchase a VPN i opted for NordVPN and connecting to a dedicated IP Through VPN cured all connection issuea using Mobile Hotspot.

Any fix for this yet? I lose three out of four nightmare dungeons because of this issue, it is annoying at the best of times but nightmare dungeons are lost once you activate them and lose connection.

I play on Xbox and can’t add a VPN to the BT 4g router
