Constant Crash: unable to retrieve necessary data

Data Retrieval Error

Diablo IV was unable to retrieve necessary data. Please check your network connection.

What I’ve tried/considerations:

  1. I use Windows Defender (not Kapersky, which was linked to a few issues about blocking connection in towns) - i was using BitDefender, uninstalled it and still have this issue,
  2. My game is installed on an internal MVME SSD,
  3. I have Scanned and Repaired it (on Battle.net) 3 or four times - no corrupted files,
  4. It happens on my normal connection and when using my VPN,
  5. It only started happening in the last week or so. I have played every season so far an not had this issue until now.

Help would be much appreciated (As i am actually enjoying this season).

im getting the same issue and its so frustrating, cant play or enjoy the game.

I’m getting this same error on my Steam Deck. The game ran fine this morning, but not even 5 hours later, it crashes on me with this message. I’ve tried verifying the files on Steam, and it’s telling me they’re fine. My WiFi connection is fine. I’m literally 2 feet from my box and it had no problem downloading the update immediately before I tried launching the game just now.

I am getting this right now, I just updated via steam, but played for hours this morning.

I was too. Windows had 3 big updates waiting. I installed them and now it’s working again.

Same, cant play.
I have tried a lot of thing but nothing, i think is not our fault.

Just started having this same issue. Windows defender too.
Nothing seems to work. Please help

I played this morning fine. Then came back and was getting the error constantly. I checked under updates and had the following pending:
2023-11 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5032007)
2023-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5032190)

After installing I tried again and it downloaded data for about 10 min and then launched.

I’m starting to have this issue today after the new patch

Patched, then got crash message, now I updated windows, reopened steam and I’m getting “downloading content” again…will see if this works
