Constantly Crashing since New Season 4 Patch

This random information may help some after trying pretty much everything listed here and a few other places. Months back, I had a similar issue with Cyberpunk constantly crashing between 5-10 minutes. I’ve been trying to get Cyberpunk working since its release; it is the only game I’ve had problems with. Over a year, I tried all sorts of suggestions, bios tweaks, GPU tweaks, driver tweaks, etc. I randomly found a Korean post about lowering the CPU’s core ratio and voltage offset and successfully running the game. I tried this, and it did work. I tried this for Diablo 4 last night and could play for hours without even one crash. I’m guessing some code some games use doesn’t play nice with the cores.

Here is what worked for me using an Intel processor. I only mention this because it did work for me. I recommend understanding what these changes are doing before making them, and if you don’t know, I wouldn’t make them. Be responsible for any changes you make.

My specs:

i9-13900K
RTX 4090
Win 11 64
32g ram

  1. (Intel processor tool) Download the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (at the time of writing this, I’m using version 7.14.1.12
  2. I lowered the “Performance Core Ratio” to 50x from 55x
  3. I lowered the “Efficient Core Ratio” to 38x from 43x
  4. I lowered the “Core Voltage Offset” to -0.005 V from 0.000
  5. If you restart your PC, repeat the above.

I spent days testing this for Cyberpunk and found that anything between the ranges in each category stated above still caused crashing, but the frequency was different. With these configurations, I averaged 1 crash per 10 hours of gameplay, which may or may not have been the same type of crash.

It’s important to reiterate that these adjustments come with a risk. However, in my case, they resolved the frequent crashes in Diablo 4. I’ll keep you updated if I come across any new findings.

I really thought it was only me having this issue.
When i first install i could have played fer hrs but now i am lucky to get 20 mins! And the issue is only happening with d4 ALL my other games r running fine! Blizzard get ur act together we paid money and r supporting your game smh!

Having the same issues as you guys, whether it’s 2 minutes or 20 minutes it crashes to a blank screen and PC needs to be reset. This is all after the changing of settings and textures to low, DLSS off, Ray Tracing off, etc. I’ve never experienced this with a game or app before in my life. It seems like such a massive oversight almost negligence on Blizzards part. No other games have problems, pc doesn’t crash if I’m on other games, chrome, YouTube, Ableton. But it’s so messed up that even just opening battlenet and installing the latest D4 update that came out today crashed my computer. To the point where the screen goes black, almost like it goes into a purgatory until I hard reset. 30% of the time my 4080super and i7 13700k go into full speed fan mode for minutes once the screen goes blank until I hard reset. Temps are not bad either. They really missed something serious in the code of this game in the season update. It’s very frustrating and alarming. I’m actually worried about my hardware.

Same here. Crashes happen at random no matter what I’m doing. Same fenris error.

I7 13700K
RTX 3080

Latest nvidia drivers didn’t help.
Disabling/lowering graphic options in general didn’t help either

after update, the game crash after the charactor select…
who told to send update idea in the middle of season Bilzzard ? it was working perfect 2 days back.

Can we at least get an official response on the subject? It’s been two weeks.

I wanted to try Season 4, i can’t even create a character that the game crash

My issue is finally resolved but i ended up buying a new Motherboard, CPU due to the old CPU failing me (Not the cause of the game mind you)

So with a fresh Windows, new CPU (Went from I9-13900k to I7-14700k) and B760 to Z790 Motherboard, a clean fresh install of windows AND the new GPU driver from 21-22nd of May, my crash problem is gone.

In my case this is a brand new system already and I was playing flawlessly 48 hours ago.

blizz plz

EDIT: There’s a tweet in PezRadar’s twitter about a coming patch. I’m totally not suggesting we complain there.

OK I am may have found the culprit. In my case with the ASUS Z790 Hero the latest bios has an option that with one click it removes all ASUS built in ‘enhancements’ (i.e. maxing out things with memory and CPU beyond the default values) . Specifically, per their page,

“The update introduces the Intel Baseline Profile option, allowing users to revert to Intel factory default settings for basic functionality, lower power limits, and improving stability in certain games.”

After setting this it defaulted certain Intel CPU and memory things and restarted the system and I have been playing for two days straight now without a crash.

That being said, Before season 4 I had no issues even though my system was set with the ASUS settings so I am assuming the new graphics enhancements may be creating the issues with systems that are not at default.

My rig is I9-14900K with RTX 4090 64GB memory.

You may have a different motherboard which does not have this one-click feature. I recommend going to every setting and removing any CPU and memory enhancements and set it to either disabled or defulat and test out the game.

Hope this helps.

I was not having any issues but since the latest patch I have now for the last 3 days have been getting crashed can get 10mins sometimes on for 2 hours and just a crash or my game and pc freezes up. I have ran all the scans to check the drives, I have ran disk management, I have wiped my d4 files did a comepete reinstall. Everything that is has been suggest and still same issue. Also I am not on nvidia I use a AMD card, The red devil 6800 xt card and here are my other specs

Processor AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor 3.70 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB
Device ID 4BF2B0E1-F564-4EA1-8359-6E35ABC4CF25
Product ID 00325-81359-39420-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display
I have never had any issue before until now nor do i have any issue on anything else. Was also on this for like 14 hours when season 4 started. So whatever this latest patch did messed something up and I hope it gets fixed.

I’ve been having this issue pretty much since the game has come out. In one season I was able to resolve it by re-installing the game, but now, in season 4, it’s worse than ever. Every teleport provides a 99% chance the game will crash. Upon trying to re-enter, I sometimes only make it as far as the character selection and the game will crash again. I have played many other games on my PC without any problems, it’s only D4. Also -

:point_up_2: This.

Same here. I’ve been experiencing multiple freezes since the start of Season 4. I hadn’t had any of these issues before.

This error also occurs on AMD systems.

Until yesterday daytime I enjoyed S4 without any problems, but the same error started to occur in the evening.

A game that always held 100 frames falls below 30 frames, and an error occurs when using the portal in that situation.

Windows 11
AMD Ryzen 7800x3d
Nvidia geforce RTX 3060ti

same here, crash every 5-10 min

Yeah same here, crashing every now and then, be it 10 min or 30 min… cannot enjoy a session without a few crashes

Same here. It was fine for the first few days. It started crashing on the 18th and continued for a couple of days. It stopped on the 20th or 21st, but now it has come back again today (May 24). I am pretty sure my CPU (i5-12400) and GPU (3060ti) have little to do with this issue.

Same here. Game ran okay enough the last few days.
No crashes, yet.
But got stuck in an endless loading screen today that eventually turned into a misty void. Had to hard close the game.
Then it took about 2 minutes to log into the game world. (Even the shop didn’t load and threw me a “something might be wrong”.) And freezes happened now and then after.

PS: Updated my NVidia drivers today to 555. 9th gen. i7 and a 1080Ti.

I will join the club :frowning:
Had no problems then suddenly yesterday i crashed to desktop with no errors every 5-10 mins of gaming. Tried multiple reinstalls, repair tools, all settings to low. nothing helps. Im on a 40xx series and a I9.
Hoping for a fix sooner rather than later.

I’ve tried every conceivable methods posted in these forums. Updated BIOS (that is only a week or so old). Rolled back drivers. Renamed the files. Changed Settings. Everything.

Because of this, I played pretty well with infrequent crashes. Then all of a sudden it got worse. So much so, before I realized it was getting worse, I lost a level 95 Barbarian on HC. Infuriated me to no end. I barely had any issues last season, and now it’s making me rethink playing this game. I’m afraid I’ll start something that’ll end because of this mess.
