D4 Lag & Virgin Media (UK)

Since yesterday (sunday) myself and a few others have encountered huge lag when playing, and the thing we have in common is that we all have Virgin Media.

It was reported in the news today that they had issues, but only from today and with emails.
Any other Virgin Media customers here having the same issue?

Yeah I am having the same issues, been great since yesterday, when I started to experience ping ranging from 150-2000 at some points, completley unplayable (if you plan on surviving for long that is…)

Same here , Sunday evening it became unplayable.

It was ok this afternoon from about 4.30pm for an hour. Went back on at 8pm and the lag is back to unplayable again.

Yes Im on Virgin, same here since release day, unplayable… I tried nordvpn and it didnt work, seemed worse! Got rid of it and logged on D4. Perfect ping, 40-50 and no rubberbanding. When I logged on again, lag was back. Restarted game multiple times, no dice. Meanwhile steam/ubisoft games are fine. WTF is going on

You not playing on WiFi I hope? Ethernet, right?
I am on VM and I cannot reproduce, just finished D4 session with no lags.

Ethernet. I find that better than wifi.

Of course. Ethernet is the best, out-of-the-factory experience. WiFi can be an order of magnitude times worse.
Anyway, if you are experiencing lags on Ethernet then perhaps this is something you can report to VM. Maybe your region/location/exchange cabinet is experiencing some problems, lost packets for example. Definitely worth investigating further.

I did investigated my connection and found out that D4 client is connecting to following address:
d4.ingest.gdp.blizzard.com
This is probably main address game talks to. traceroute to this address reveals up to 9 hops, 23ms max which is excellent.
Perhaps you can test your connection by:
tracert d4.ingest.gdp.blizzard.com
or traceroute d4.ingest.gdp.blizzard.com
and same with ping command.
My ping:

--- d4.ingest.gdp.blizzard.com ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 10 received, 0% packet loss, time 9012ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 12.059/16.332/20.790/3.019 ms

Is it virgin in particular regions or everywhere? I used to be with virgin and it wasn’t that uncommon for them to have issues.

BT have been more dependable at least at my current location.

Looks like it’s isolated incident, definitely no lags on my end (SW of England). Furthermore, without tracert and ping stats it’s hard to say it’s actually a network issue, VRAM-full stutter also can cause lag-like experience.

How did you get 10 packets transmitted, 10 received etc?

ping command, ping and same URL.

I’m also experiencing heavy lag since the weekend. Lots of rubber banding and lag-freeze into hard crash.
However, I’m on a fibre connection in Germany.

Yeah, me too. I got rubber banding and lag yesterday wednesday. I am also on Virgin Media.

Ping statistics for 35.201.91.89:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 18ms, Maximum = 25ms, Average = 21ms

Sooooo… something fishy is going on? I reckon Im being sent to the wrong server if you ask me, like US or Asia. Ive tried to talk to people in the servers and no one replies to me.

EDIT: Finally got someone to talk to me, he said EU based.

I play in Germany and I traced the server, located in UK. Hope they will move it to Frankfurt, best location for EU but not cheap. German forums are also full of complains.

It’s not playable and we have 23:19 where almost all logged off. Ping is fine with <50ms but there are huge spikes and packet loss. Either it’s the routing or the software is bad.

Hi, this worked for me so far…

So someone said to try this in another topic.

Load game up. Then go to windowed screen, then ctrl+alt+del. Close all battle.net apps.

Go back to D4. Set to full screen and wait a bit. Rubberband is gone for me… Going to turn on/off multiple times later to test.

Please confirm here if it worked for you.

You can configure BattleNet app so that it closes completely when game is launched.
