D4 On a laptop - bloody well optimised

Some interesting notes from playing on a laptop.

Acer Helios Neo 16.
I7 13700HX Cpu
RTX 4050 GPU
32 GB Ram
3 TB Nvme Storage

This game is a bit different from the rest. I do not like high temperatures on my Laptop while playing. I use an external 32" 1440p 165 Hz monitor.

Laptop is mainly for work (databases and development.) Main focus when I got it was a FAST cpu and decent GPU for occasional gaming.

My play setup:
Use Predator Sense to push my fans up a bit. Still under 50%.
Trottlestop in Gaming Mode. Intel Turbo boost OFF.
Monitor with HW Info on laptop screen.

Diablo Settings:
Mostly Maximum. Raytracing off. Limit FPS to between 60 and 80 FPS. Some settings like fog, hair and maybe reflections turned off.
DLSS on : Balanced usually. High not ultra textures.

Diablo 4 ALWAYS uses 95 to 100% of my GPU. But the GPU core frequency goes up and down depending on my settings. Higher settings = higher GPU core frequency and wattage. D4 seems to prefer running at max utilisation, and adjusting my GPU cores speed to keep up. Other games I tested since I started monitoring does not seem to do this.

I get a core CPU / GPU temp while gaming of about 50 degrees c. Power consumption on GPU under 30W.

Runs absolutely smooth.

I have tried a similar setup with other games. Some seem to want turbo boost on the CPU on. Most that I have tried runs at 40 or 50 percent GPU utilisation, BUT the GPU clock goes up to its maximum. Resulting in temperatures of about 70 degrees.

20 Deg higher than D4!

This game is bloody well optimised.

cool story, plant.

I agree i own
ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18
Intel Core i9 13980HX Raptor Lake
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 12GB

I only use Default settings
and it really runs smooth
I can’t say that about POE

This has always been Blizzards thing, they don’t make cutting edge technology games that require a NASA computer to run, they optimize the hell out of their games, to spread the net as widely as possible, so even potato gamers can play their games (Not that OPs pc is a potato, just generalizing here)
Why settle for the top 20% of the customer base, when you can have all of it.

Now if only they would do the same with their servers. Most problems with Blizzard games these days, performance wise, are server related.
