I have 8 GB of VRAM and no game ever was such a nuissance to me. This is evidently a bug because I saw people with 12 GB of VRAM reporting the same problem. What kind of trash team do you have that can’t repair those crashes?
i have the same problem with 16,0 GB my ram its always caped when i play…
The whole game shows the ineptidude of D4 team. They knew cringeborn will be too OP before even VoH hit live and they did nothing. A month passed and tenets are still bugged. 40 euro expansion and I can’t even play.
I had that problem with VRAM sometimes (12GB) and after the 2.0.5 patch the problem now is with RAM. Game eats all the Virtual Memory as you play and crashes
I had this exact issue after returning to Diablo IV after a years break, i recalled the old bug that was related to cross-play so i toggled it off from options - same result.
Then i thought well… i don’t use the chat anymore mainly because its over populated with gold farmers promoting so why not just turn it off all together? I ended up doing exactly that - again from the options menu just above cross play, simple toggle and done.
Result was zero crashing, no out of memory errors again at all.
Also just worthy of note: People created their own fixes for this too by increasing paging file size through advanced system settings, while this would fix for some it would not for others, so its a varying situation where not everyone shares the same exact issues.
Most of these issues were brought up when people installed Diablo IV on an internal/external drive and not on their primary partition.
Also the very fact that we have to adjust virtual memory without just letting windows handle it nowadays regarding a game is unheard of, this reminds me of windows 98 days with manually assigning IRQ’s to avoid conflicts… its ridiculous. However for those few people it did actually help.
I will list the steps here just incase it may help you - (if you do have the game installed on another drive)
1: Start > “Search” > “Advanced System Settings” > “Performance” > “Advanced” > “Virtual Memory” “Change” > “External Drive” A: E: B: etc… select “Custom Size” and change the values too “50000” followed by “Set” (You do not have to do this to your Prime partition where you have your OS installed - However its up to you if you want Windows to by default handle virtual memory or not, all user choice, Frankly i’d max it out just because i can.
Anyways… after its set windows will require a reboot, so save your work.
Once rebooted you can head back into “Advanced System Settings” to check if it applied… which it no doubt will of.
Next just boot up Diablo IV and hope for the best… This fix was talked about a while back and like i said… it helped some not all, for me just toggling off the chat worked perfectly, though once you do this the game feels more dead than ever because now you cant see the chat, or rather what’s actually talked about in certain channels, and no doubt toggling off cross-play does not help either, but yet again that’s another +1 fix that’s helped thousands of people who kept getting the “D4 ran out of memory” Error.
Anyways… good luck to you, im heading back to Diablo III, i played D4 some and although i totally sorted my own issue out… the game feels so dead now its beyond hell - such is the price you pay for a working title… lol.
When increasing virtual memory this way from custom settings, it’s 1.5x the memory on initial size and 3x for the max size (in MB)
If for eg you have 16GB Ram : 16 x 1.5 = 24,000MB virtual (initial size)
16 x 3.0= 48,000MB virtual memory (max size)
Set Windows Pagefiles > ALL AUTO MANAGED by system
Increase main Memory to 32GB if you can afford.
Lower Texture Quality by one notch.
I already have low settings because it doesn’t matter how the game looks through all this spell clutter.
After the latest update my game runs out of memory after 15 seconds of getting into the game.
I have 16gbs of ram
You could increase your virtual memory size as outlined above. That offloads a lot of stuff from main memory and increases overall memory size. Windows default virtual memory size can be too low when using a lot of resources.
Anyway, 16GB Ram is more than enough for D4
16 GB or RAM is more than enough for almost any game. Pegefile is a relic, that should be removed from windows. It eats away your storage space and wear down life of your SSD. If any app eats away all your virtual memory on your PC can be considered malicious
I don’t think so. Virtual memory provides a lot of protection and isolation between processes so they don’t over write each other. That allows physical RAM to prioritise - moving less important and background processes to virtual where they can be retrieved later.
We’re hearing of a lot of RAM exhaustion and max out with 16GB when running D4. That shouldn’t be the case. Like you say, 16 is more than enough.
i just can tell you that i installed 32GB over 16GB when i had these issues with Diablo4 and never had any out of memory error again. Cost me 56€ on my old Z97 Pro Intel Xeon 1230v3. The game runs smooth but yes… its crashing to a Black Window after teleporting still but thats a game bug i guess.
I have a Laptop with 32Gb RAM and the game is on an SSD secodary drive.
I changed the Virtual settings as suggested, also repaired the files via the battlenet client.
Everything I did just delayed the crash after 20-30 mins. I can not even finish a Dungeon enymore. Pits, I loose the upgrades, Helltides, I loose the flames as I have to restart laptop after each crash. I get very frustrated and I do not see anyone caring or solving this issue,
I am sure it is not only me using a Laptop:
Dell G16
13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-13650HX 2.60 GHz
32,0 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU with 16GB
Latest drivers)
only the game crashes ? or your whole windows restarts ?
Depending on your choice, I had similar problem for months, and a quirky move suddenly “fixed” it for me.
THe laptop is still on, but no graphic card is found and I need to restart the system.
The screen is black for a long time but recovers after a while, nothing really is working from that point on
Nope. I was never using pagefile since upgrading to 32 GB and everything was fine. If app is faulty, pagefile won’t save you. It’s never a solution to destroy your SSD for faulty app
I used to get a lot of graphics card not being found messages, randomly. The workaround was to totally uninstall AMD Adrenalin. Never used GEForce Experience, but they’re exactly the same as each other. Uninstalling AMD adrenaline and rolling back to AMD standard graphics drivers solved a lot of issues, such as game not loading, game crashes, and so on.
It makes little to no difference to performance. All I lost without the bloatware is a few fps
Crazy I can play stuff like cyberpunk with smooth movement and brief loading times, but this game needs 15GB at the main menu
D4 crashes for me every 1-1,5 h.
