The game needs to be more balanced between difficulty and character progress, the character is always much more powerful than the highest difficulty it can be played on.
So, first of all, why did you make the same post twice?
Secondly, No, difficulty and challenge is not the point of this game, power fantasy is. The challenge in this game lies within grinding out your perfect build, see how far you can push it, not overcoming difficult enemies. If you want a challenge, go play dark souls or something. This is the one genre, where being stupidly op is the whole point, and it needs to stay that way. There are plenty of other games and genres that offer what you ask for.
The reason the campaign feels easy, is because the game is not balanced arround the campaign, its balanced arround the seasonal gameplay loop. People dont wanna slog through a 60 hour long leveling process every season, they wanna get to the endgame, where the real fun begins.
I understand what you’re saying, and it’s good that the goal is to be very powerful, but why be so powerful? The only challenge is to advance in the pit, what I’m going for is that they should implement more difficulties and balance them according to progress, I think it would give the game a plus. Another thing is that the campaign is only done once and it should be a bigger challenge to pass it. Thanks for commenting
I do agree with OP to an extent. The main campaign boss encounters feel anti climactic. At least, initial main campaign run could be more difficult in terms of main encounters.
You add harder content than what’s available now. What’s the reward? Better gear or more powerful items? If so, the players who can’t do that content will complain that it’s too hard.
Adding extra content that’s harder with no reward, what’s the point of even playing it?
One could argue, that adding harder difficulties with better rewards would just put us right back here, where people ask for even harder content, with even better rewards. Its a endless cycle. No matter how much difficulty and how many rewards they cram in, people will always end up outgearing it.
If people want some prestigious difficulty level for ther sake of challenge, so be it, but the vertical progression must stop at some point.
Personally i dont need it, not every game needs to be dark souls. D4 is a powerfantasy, being OP is the point.
It’s what you like. I like, as topic starter, more challenge. I don’t like vaporize enemies with just my look. Grind good gear it’s fun yes, but I also want some danger. Because I fall asleep (naturally) when I brainlessly vaporize enemies for an hour and haven’t any great items for that time.
Great example. Nightmare dungeons. Here a lot of enemies affixes which I don’t care at some point. Just grind. It was better, where this affixes actually worked. But I’ve already win t4 with my handmade build.
being op > being a gimp. with the skills that are actually fun and you want to play with.
there´s so much boring skill affirmative action.
there´s also probably alot of lazyness with grabbing balance by the horns.
most b.s. is their yoyo-ing damage output significantly on established builds. you might invest alot of obducite and then later build is nerfed into the ground so you give up, salvage it all only for the build to return later strong…
Nope, no option. In hardcore you can die because of, for example, 5+ sec lag. It’s very annoying. If I take difficulty where my character can passively survive for 10+ seconds it will be boring. The same no challenge.
I didnt say there couldn’t be challenging content, i just said that if higher difficulty = better rewards, it cancels itself out, and people will be back here asking for even higher difficulty yet again.
If you want a extra challenging difficulty, fine by me, but if you at the same time ask for better rewards, it ultimately becomes pointless.
I don’t think that better rewards is a big problem. At least this better rewards can be symbolic. So people like you will continue go t4 because it will be more time efficient to grind items. You could complete 3 dungeons with reward 20 point each on t4 and I will complete by the same time one t5 dungeon with reward 23. I will be happy and you will be happy))
Anyway to loot perfect items very time consumption. I’ve played this game 170 hours and I have 2 characters: necro (between t3 and t4) and sorc (t4+). I’m far away for getting all gears what I want. I want to try another classes, but I will do it in new season, so I begin from start again. And it will take some time to “win” the game. “Win” for me - when I can do all endgame activities without any danger for my character.
But nightmare dungeons, as example, become not so fun compared to when I couldn’t vaporize t4. If it were some other difficulty levels (LIke pit) it would be better.
Difficulty is not the part im having a issue with, vertical progression is. If you keep increasing the difficulty, people are gonna keep pushing for better rewards, and when you increase those rewards, people will push for increased difficulty, wich then again leads to people want greater rewards. Its a endless cycle. Look at what this kind of game design did to games like World Of Warcraft and Diablo 3. If all we ever do is progress vertically, it just waters down the game over time. There is a reason why Diablo 3 has 20 difficulty tiers, and WoW has to make stat squishes every few years, to keep things from spinning out of control.
This is why i say added difficulty for those who want a challenge is fine, but added reward is not.
I understand it. But difficulty progression will be linear, reward could be logarithmic. I mean - the more difficulty level, the less relative increasing reward. And reward - I don’t mean give some super-puper new ancestral legendary mythic on t20. Just increase quantity what we have. So one day (in theory) will be point, where you have max stat and just can’t climb in difficulty upper. The game is ended, ok. Anyway the game will be ended even with t4. But you should vaporize millions elite monsters with one shots to receive max gear. But with more difficulties this dungeons will be challenging for more time.
And yes, I liked difficulty variants in d3. Because of them i played game for long time, not to the moment when I beat t4 (it was relatively fast).
D4 is way better in endgame activities, imho. So for now I don’t see how to play longer. Just start new class and win t4. Maybe in ladder world and some cyberport moments (like play only with most efficient builds) picture is different.
