The programmer, turns around and tries to spray the intruder, as if they were a skunk, but it backfires. Unphased by being covered in their own excrement (as they both smell the same either way), the programmer is back up against a wall.
They cry out of their mummy, but no response is received.
It tries to climb the walls of his mudded apartment, book cases filled with misused magazines with sticky pages! Looking for more insults, it fails! It crawls back onto the floor, having a tantrum that would rival that of a 5 year old that didn’t get the candy bar it wanted!
In a last ditch effort, the programmer sends out a signal to it’s mothership.
Hoping that more programmers will come to it’s aid! But little does this little beta child of a programmer notice… no other programmers are out there, which will give out the same information on a public forum for a game, which is coming out in less than 45 hours.
Other alpha male programmers will tell people to just follow the advice of the creators of the software, which they themselves are going to experience.
But unfortunately due to the nature of this beta programmer… he will forever be alone, forever wondering what his mating calls go unanswered by the female species!
Peasants arguing about nothing. I uninstalled Server Slam as soon as I killed Ashava, D4 is already installed because I don’t have a 56k modem downloading it.
there could be references into different folders even tho the hash is the same, those 8gb could be pointing to different structure inside those hashes.
In any case though, this may be an ok solution if your internet sucks.
I have 2.5 Gbps connection, better to do a fresh install.
Sure. Everyone can claim to be anything online. That doesnt give your answers any weight.
Dont say you are wrong, but thats not the point.
The way you argue in a video game forum lets me highly doubt your career.
If you come back here on june 2nd to laugh about people that were wrong in this case, I will be here to laugh about a self-called “highly renowned” business superstar acting like 15 year old Billie that pushes his ego by laughing at other people.
They have given enough info regarding their employment for you to actually find them online and confirm this in various sources, only thing that does not line up is the position they claim to hold in managing 40 developers. In the event you want to check this publicly available information yourself that OP was kind enough to point us towards just don’t post any personal information and actual names that come up as “doxxing” will be against the TOS of the forums.
Might have just of been having a bad day as we all do., but it was the arrogance and quickness to insult most took issue with rather than their original contribution.
Call me simple but … 15 years of experience here, 30 over there … and all of it to reduce a download of 80+ gig. Now ask yourself … all this trouble …with all this “tech” experience … But no good internet connection to blast through the 80+ gigs in like 10 minutes … no lets keep the beta files … go through a sort of loophole , wait for initialization so you can download 7.9 gig to save atleast a couple of minutes from your busy “bank” schedule … perfect logic. Wait! i probably got it wrong ! you did it to support other users with slow connections … of course you did !
Gonna be funny when you find your game doesn’t work. My game was 24 gb in slam… the release version is nearly 90gb… so you’re a long way off.
You should always delete previous builds and do fresh installs when available. But… it’ll be you posting “the game doesn’t work, the game crashes all the time” not me.
If this does infact work then fair enough, do you really see Blizzard employees giving these instructions to people on Twitter and during a developer livestream… They would be bombarded with at least some people doing something somewhere incorrectly and potentially breaking things on their system and blaming Blizzard.
The path of least resistance, at least for them, is to do a fresh install.
It would have been nice of a Blizzard Representative to chime in at some point when this thread was on the top of the most interactive thread list for a day and a half. Might have got too ridiculous for them to take it seriously
If a Blizzard Rep actually read this they’d probably realise that the vast majority of players would know this is a bad idea! This is the sort of thing players would try 15-20+ years ago when internet connections were so slow that an 80GB download would take well over 80 hours for many. Nowadays most players can download 80GB in a few hours (or even less) and so it simply isn’t a concern.
What the OP clearly fails to understand is that their game may well initially work, everything may seem to be fine, but, hours later they may notice little glitches and errors such as missing textures and/or animations not working correctly. They could also get infinitie loading screens along with all sorts of other issues, all the way up to the game constantly crashing! But, as I’ve said before, it’s their choice to do this.
We simply expressed our opinions, but because our opinions didn’t align with what the OP was saying the OP responded aggressively and with personal insults.
But, I’ll still say this, once again: If the OP (and anyone else) is going ahead with this, then please remember that it’s your choice to do this! I hope it works out, but experience tells me that it likely won’t.
Personally I chose to believe Blizzard and uninstalled the beta/Server Slam files about a week ago and installed the full live game when pre-loading opened. In less than 6 hours I’m going to be way too busy playing the game to even give this topic a second thought!
