Diablo IV - Honest Review

Here is my Honest Review:

Summary of thoughts:

I have played it following Diablo III and I am disappointed. If I had to rate the game I would give it a 3.5 out of 10 to be fair to you. I have played this game with friends and family alongside my father Who will not buy it either. This is ending our blizzard gaming partnership of over 20+ years,

So the story of Lilith is watery weak I understand she is the daughter and is disappointed but also pained by Rathma. I see the integration of the towns some poor some wealthy some barbaric so on etc the usual M.O. I was More intrigued By Viego’s story and its slower but more personal and realistic problems drinkig cards etc. but it was lightly brushed over and over to quick. The whole Diablo is coming again is in honesty old, the fight for good and evil needs to be bought back into the main picture because that old chestnut you run feels like Voldemort in harry potter. So your story you get 0.5 because your side stories and watered down as they are better than your main story.

Your game play I love the old and new blend approach you have bought and the way your lightly intertwining them is great i.e. the original Hud the with the walk style of three maps like three but the feel of Diablo I vs the Graphics and shiny things like Zoom and customization and interactive character cut scenes are great. So another 0.5. The bad it’s repetitive and feels like it is cheating to reuse old content to flesh out a new game and to be honest it feels like your company is fleecing its players. Just feels Dirty.

Lighting and Atmosphere: The lighting and games atmosphere is beautiful, and your digital design team and story boardists along side your artists. they are great as well as your digital teams ability to implement new technology from the new engine you guys are probably using or at least I would hope you a. It should feel dark, damp, wet and feel like an entrance to a cave you don’t want no part of, but you have to in order to save something you love.

But failure comes in the form of its repetitive chunks reorganized (procedurally Generated) mapping feel, takes away from those major components and you have done this since Diablo II. By this I mean that Diablo I, for example had a feeling of fear on many of its levels because the first time you felt like a tinly little worm on a big hook in the ocean. Everything wanted to stick gut or kill you and you had to fight to survive, it gave that feeling the whole way through. It came from music changes lighting and atmosphere changes story changes hell even specific enemy changes. However you were rewarded with quips and one liners that made you feel like a god for overcoming them. Unfortunatly the procedurally generated mapping to speed up level creation is a cop out, you can and have could done so much better. but you make it feel like unimaginative let down in that respect. for this you get a 1 out of 10 here

The character customization is basic but a brilliant addition to the game and something you should focus on, not like World of warcraft Micro transactions but should make you feel more immersed with your characters, beyond just their class and general background. 1 point . (Potential)

the last 0.5 I will award will be for Nostalgia, The game feels like a Diablo Title, it feels like a blizzard title, but it feels like every past Diablo title but nothing new or innovative like the original game its self.

To Final thoughts:

you created another Diablo Title, it feels the same, and that’s its major malfunction**.** As person lucky enough to grow with your titles and games, I am not feeling anything but missed opportunity. You have some of the best game franchises and some of the best game creative teams that the world has to offer i.e. blending Diablo game with world of warcraft original game before the kungfu panda bears …

In summary:

the game feels like, it has been rushed out there, without much innovation at all. (it is basically diablo three with glitter on it.) this is a view shared by a large gaming community on discord and the game Facebook groups, and this is a trend that will extends to your current player base.

What? Errr ok. I guess everyone has their opinion.

I loved it though. Story so far was awesome. 9/10

What? Every Diablo reuses old content. It’s a dungeon crawler? They made amazing innovations for reusing old content. World tiers and nightmare dungeon sigils. Well done Blizzard I recognise all the amazing work you did here 10/10.

The map we got to experience was the most engaging, most reusable and felt about as big as D3 and D2 already. I get why people are saying it can be better but for me it’s been awesome so far even if I do see the same chunk appear next to an identical chunk and that’s pretty much the entire dungeon. Those chunks are still beautiful and more fun to walk through then previous games including POE and Lost Ark. 8/10

Character customization amazing does not need work or people making Druids into asian waifu body types and faces. Love Diablo for sticking to its guns here. Druids look like real ass women and I love that.

So far game is amazing. Please make it harder with better bosses and some more depth and puzzles to solve in itemisation and skill tree and an ultimate button. Also get classes much closer to the same level in balance and skill level. Otherwise game is great don’t understand posts like this at all.

So many 1 post alt accounts saying the same thing. Lol

Agree with Dusty. Coming from D2, D3, this game has caught me in a story that has a buildup and dark feel to it. Good vs Evil. Gruesome and bloody. Dark. Making me feel as a core character in the Story unlike D3.

As a single player type of person I enjoyed it very much. If I’m to level all classes towards the max… and ending the story. Will need a massive amount of time ingame. I wish i could keep playing the Beta as a demo in the meanwhile!

Ok Dusty, Not an alt account, yes first post as I am not an internet Jockey spending hours on charecter calculators enjoying a game for points and awards I am probably ten years your senior in gaming. Your point is misslaid the orginal Diablo Dungeon crawler did not procedurally generate each biome / map layout was created the music sounds effects and trap placements alongside sidequests were very well thought out.

This I know as I played this when it was back then not 10 years later with 1000 guides on how to play … My opinion is just that, an opionion not a place for a keyboards warrior to try defend.

I love the franchise all the way till now the point I am making is thier innovation was lacking, and to apply a shine to content thats realistically over a decade old yea it’s not for me or others who are true to its original charecter… Nice try on the save it’s a valid opionion for game completers like you thats fine and you usually ask for more this or that to make it faster thats your bag… But for people wanting immersion, Story Growth and more than diablo is here cause of a stone now hes here cause of his brother now hes here cause of x y and Z its a bit old.

I miss more creative filled in fleshed out storys yea a bit more dialogue and a bit more personalization with things like MMO dungeons that require skill timimng and good charecter builds. but the same dark dungeon exsperience they bought all those years.

Now I am not going to berrate your reply, your entitled to your opionon thats fine but thats all that is too.

Sorry I am not in your corner and im sure there is more like you as the copy robot below has shown but thats just all it is.

Thanks for the replies
peace

Tried it on both pc and console, feels better on console that pc, but that’s in part to 20 years of D2.

Can’t say I like the new style at all, feels too much like immortal and that left about taste in my mouth.

Season pass in a AAA Diablo? Also hard nope.

Literally feels like diablo 3.5 or Diablo 4mmortal, generic dungeon crawler looter, it’s just not for that spark/magic that D1+2 had an abundance of, and in fairness, as much as I disliked D3 upon release, by it’s final season it did possess some of that spark (mainly due to the non stop work and progression of the D3 Dev team).

But no matter how much of a blizz fanboy you are, you cannot say this feels innovative, new or even true to its roots, it’s a generic arpg dungeon crawler, which diablo may be, but it spawned and defined the genre, as such it stood head and shoulders above the competition.

This iteration though… Just feels and falls flat, nothing has really changed, it’s a mix of the two worst diablo games to ever exist.

Though I will say a huge thank you for the beta, as it did prevent me from wasting money, and I don’t say this sarcastically, this should be a standard practice in gaming.

So while it falls short for me and isn’t for me, I appreciate the fact I have D2r, so I’m happy.

BUT, I do hope they make enough changes to make the majority of the Diablo community happy (can never make everyone happy, majority is a nice area to be in).
And while this has dashed any hope/excitement for future Blizzard/Diablo games I had, I’m not gonna waste my time just hating on what it is now.

Hardcore Diablo fans will return to D2r, new and casual fans can enjoy 4. Who knows maybe one day we’ll even get a diablo remaster, even if not, I’m happy with D2r, and happy the Diablo name is still out there.

P.s not an alt account, dunno why it says one post, have loads more in other areas of blizz forums (mainly D2r) so no idea why it says one post? Or does this mean one post to the D4 forum? Regardless I have no real reason being this post to message here, have no need to berate anyone or put anyone off, genuinely hope the majority of you have a good time there!

Have fun, be civil, and remember opinions differ person to person, don’t have to agree with others, but you do have to accept their opinion for what it is.

you will not be missed! bye!

remeber that when you have played this before…

Its like OP does not like Diablo games and tries too hard. 1/10

Its not bad not liking a game, a saga or a genre but just accept that you might not be the target audience.

Have a nice day
