Disappointing Experience with Diablo IV

Dear Blizzard Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep disappointment and regret regarding my recent purchase of Diablo IV. As a long-time fan of the Diablo franchise, I had high expectations for this game, but unfortunately, it has failed to meet even the most basic of those expectations. I feel compelled to share my feedback in the hope that it may contribute to the improvement of future releases.

Firstly, I must express my dissatisfaction with the overall experience. Diablo IV lacks the depth and immersive gameplay that made Diablo I and Diablo II such beloved classics. The game feels like a departure from the core elements that once defined the series, and it pains me to say that it feels like a hollow and uninspired product. The sense of being scammed is amplified by the fact that I had similar reservations about Diablo III, and it seems those concerns were not addressed in Diablo IV.

As a player who grew up with the earlier Diablo games, I understand that the gaming landscape has changed, and companies must adapt to appeal to a wider audience. However, I firmly believe that there is still a substantial market for a Diablo game that caters to the age group of 30-90+ years old. Many players who fell in love with the earlier installments of the series are now within that age bracket and are looking for meaningful experiences that respect their nostalgia while providing fresh and engaging content.

I sincerely hope that Blizzard will take this feedback into consideration and make the necessary adjustments to future Diablo releases. As a dedicated fan, I would love to see the franchise return to its former glory and recapture the essence that made it so special. Diablo has the potential to be a game that resonates with players of all ages, and I believe that catering to a wider demographic will only strengthen its appeal.

Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback. I remain hopeful that Blizzard will listen to the concerns of its passionate player base and work towards creating a Diablo game that truly captivates and satisfies fans across all age groups.

BR,
Ilie

TLDR (short, uncorporate version):
I have searched a place where to leave this game a feedback and I believe this is the best place for it. Here goes:
I regret buying this product and I feel scammed
I’ve lost all the little confidence I had in your ability to create meaningful experiences
Have you guys ever played Diablo I and Diablo II ? I skipped Diablo III because I think it’s the same scam that you’ve just pulled on me with this “game”
I understand I’m no longer your target age, but this is utterly disappointing
I do hope you’ll also make a Diablo game that targets people between ages of 30-90+ years old

Stopped reading after the first sentence. There is not even mods here. If you want to reach out to any employees go to the us forums and you have a slight chance that anyone reads your message.

that’s why there’s a TLDR (

Ok, I read it now. I am the part of the 30-90 group you mention. What do you mean by that? Why is it not targeted at this group? There are threads of adhd kids every day, crying about how they have nothing to do, droprates are bad, they have to run somewhere and waste their precious 5minutes of gaming time. So if anything, they slowed down quite a bit. I agree, diablo3 was crap. Mostly because of the same mistake they did now, the item system sucks because they are just yellow items with stats on it. No trading. No runes. I loved hunting hundreds of hours for that Windforce, for arach, those runeword bases or high runes, picking up gems on the way to trade in for middle runes, slowly trading and cubing my way up to those precious high runes. There is a lot of room for improvement in this game but your message does not provide any detail to what you mean. Keep in mind that it may also be your mindset that changed and that things weren’t perfect on release back then either.

Is lack of time to play games an ADHD trait? Or just your way of insulting others, gaslighting people who do not like the game as having a mental condition?

Pretty sure millions of (non-ADHD) gamers around the world don’t want to feel like playing parts of a game is a complete waste of their probably limited time.

Spending hours of the game re-tracing your steps, arriving to packs of monsters just after they’ve been killed by someone else, hours sorting through primarily useless gear drops and even taking on the highest level / challenge content the game has to offer for little-no reward is all a total waste of time and it feels especially so in Diablo 4. It is boring. No dopamine, just a chore.

I lack time. Still sitting on my 76 sorc. Yet I would not think of blaming the game for low drop rates or the fact that I have to run to the next dungeon instead of taking stairs to level 1068 of the tower. The fact you call it being boring, which I don’t share (but probably because I have less time, so I totally believe you saying it) is not based on low droprates or having to run to a dungeon but because of missing systems I mentioned above (and others). Of course, that’s just my take.
And yes, I do believe that people nowadays have a problem with attention span and want everything, for little to no effort and -now-, oh, and of course it has to come with a shiny bling achievement or they won’t do it. Playing a game for the fun of it is not a thing anymore, they need to have more and more moments of success, probably to compensate. That’s not only their fault, but the fault of our whole society teaching them that they need to be the best and successful to be valuable.
No gaslighting intended, just stating my observation over the last 2 decades of games and if people can’t handle that without being lighted, well, then there is no need to discuss that because you can’t discuss anything with people on fire.

Difficult one for us as you didn’t enjoy Diablo 3 but I did, for a time.

It’s about finding the balance, in Diablo 3 I felt like you could do a great deal with 50-100 hours invested and that time invested = power gained = fun… in Diablo 4 it feels like you could do 500-1,000 hours and still be unlucky whilst everything just becomes harder.

I need a little dopamine rush almost every time I play or it just chips away at my enjoyment, its not an attention span thing. 3 weeks playing Diablo 4 and I got that dopamine rush once. Forcing myself to play hoping it would suddenly get enjoyable for 60-73, quitting at 73.

Maybe Diablo 3 was Too much instant gratification but Diablo 4 is certainly too much of a grind, some players will never get any reward, most players will never see certain item drops. It needs better balancing for sure (But not as extreme as Diablo 3).

Of course it’s not just “Items!!”, I found the campaign/storyline horribly easy, not having a difficulty tier suitable to my abilities ruined the campaign for me. I felt challenged for all of 30 seconds.

And stuff to do, I’ve done my 100’s of Greater Rift runs in Diablo 3, I have not got Nightmare dungeons in me (Especially as all Dungeons are horribly similar), did 20 and that is when I quit. End-game needs more variance, I expected something new and cool with D4, especially looking at the ideas other ARPGs have.

Of course people want more and more as time progresses, I don’t just buy a good PC for better graphics, I buy one so that games can be more complex. I was expecting Diablo 4 to be an evolution after Diablo 2/3’s decades long experiment. Maybe it still will be after further development, I can only judge the game in its current form.

There are 100 decent ideas on this forum from people that have played the game for a month, could the development team really not come up with their own in 6 years? I expected more after the thousands of U-turns they made when developing Diablo 3.

My feeling the entire playthrough of Diablo 4? “Been here, done that, got the T-shirt.”

This is the perfection question. I mean they get paid and work 8h a day on it. And still THIS is what we got? Cloned D3 but made it WORSE somehow. Like first of all, D3 was THE WORSE Diablo (well now its D:I and D4). Secondly, why on earth do you steal every system from D3 but SOMEHOW GOT IT WORSE ? Like why and how in gods name?? You steal enchanter, which shows the attributes which can be rolled on the item, but you did not stole the preview of attributes it can roll? HOW ? Did the team has some licence on this feature or why is it halfbacked? And this flaws goes trough whole Diablo 4. You see them flaws everywhere. They should not be shookedpikachu when there are max 10k players left after season 1 …

I agree and there is nothing wrong with wanting a little rush. That’s why I think there is mechanics missing. I had my little rush when at the end of a session, after trading in, I got an UM or maybe an IST and I was one step closer to the goal. Yes, that part is certainly missing currently and that is a huge issue. Diablo 3 had some nice moments, but to me, it certainly wasn’t even close to d2.
