Druid early game balance problems (was: Uninstalled - dull and difficult)

(Edit: I’m giving this another try after taking a break and some encouragement here. My updated reply.)

I’m not a big fan of negative posts, and I don’t tend to make them. I try to be constructive. I’m out of rope here however. I’m hoping a developer reads this even if they discard it completely.

I’ve played every Diablo on first release except Immortal. Thousands of hours across the series. Thousands of hours of WoW. (Thousands of hours of Path of Exile, less than popular here I’m sure, but nevertheless.)

This is the dullest, greyest, most tiresome Diablo I’ve played. Slow motion wandering across a grey landscape with very occasional packs of monsters, and passing players, punctuated by tiresome and only semi-skippable overly-long dialogue. This is WoW without all the pleasure of the game world. It’s Diablo without the action or role-playing.

The boss fights are the biggest problem. They successfully manage to combine excessive difficulty, mostly thanks to underpowered player abilities and huge boss health bars, with immense tedium, taking the genre to new depths. I’m not sure who decided that the best way to make a boss fight challenging was to add so much mobile garbage to the arena that it’s frequently impossible to do anything other than dodge, by which I mean walk around very slowly. That a series of long, drawn out attritions fights whilst slow-motion walking around dark red/brown debuffs on a grey arena would be a good idea.

I’m only three bosses deep, but Vhenard and Lilith’s Lament both suffer from this. Tchort, Herald of Lilith, the odd one out, is completely ineffectual, the only enemy here is boredom. After a couple of Lilith’s Lament runs, I’ve had enough.

This may be the worst game I’ve played in 20 years. It is certainly the worst game I’ve paid this price for. I sincerely regret prepurchasing. I’d ask for a refund but I rather doubt I’d get one. Uninstalled.

I get your frustration, but you should give it one more chance.

Play on easy mode and i would suggest you to check out maxroll builds.

Upgrade gear, rank up proper abilities, and trust me,once you see damage numbers going up,you will change your mind.

Dont give up after one day brother.

No game ever was perfect with the release, but we have seasons coming (seasonal themes + bit of story update) dlc’s etc…

Game is not what i expected either, but there’s no way i am going to quit after one day, there’s nothing better to do anyway,so…

Check on you tube how damage buckets work and you will be steamrolling everything. If you thing that D3 type of making builds will work here than you will suffer.

the problem like i said months ago on this forum is the lack of “stimuli feedback” you get from playing.

what this means is the character and environment blend together due to bad contrasting, there is no “pop” that makes your character feel like an entity in its own, therefore you feel as if you are motioning a beige pebble, rolling around a grey hill

the fabrics, gear, greenery e.t.c needs more vibrancy

where is that guy who created a darker feel atmosphere overlay for D3? we need him to make one for D4 now to INCREASE the vibrancy lolol

Look man, I appreciate your efforts, but try to look at the other side here: I don’t even want to know what a “damage bucket” is. I want the game to guide me in a way that makes sensible builds self-explainatory. I want the game to give me the liberty of playing foolishly at low difficulty.

I completely understand OP, especially with regard to the boss hp. I don’t mind a certain level of difficulty when that difficulty comes from understanding what needs doing. But when the difficulty results from doing something rather obvious correctly for a needlessly long time it’s just dull. Feels more like work than like playing a game.

Than this game is not for you. Blizz just made ballance patch and bumped hp for boss elites and monsters in higher tiers because people were steamrolling it . Dont like it than uninstal it like op. Game is very easy but you just want another d3 brain dead 1 button to win game. You have guides and tutorials even ingame but you need to read them. Sorry for being so harsh but for the love of god make an effort.

you’re such a crybaby.

You mean the guy that made D3 look like a mobile game? I mean everyone has different tastes, but I remember D3 getting backlash for its bright colour palette.

Personally I think this is the best version of Sanctuary we have. Diablo 2 was great too and some areas are timeless (Act 2 especially), but we never got to learn about the world of Sanctuary as much as we can now in D4. And it is in a good taste. First area has this The Witcher vibe and I think it’s really good.

This is probably the most RP we ever got from Diablo and even from Blizzard. Even WoW is poor on this front, especially since it turned into Disney movie some time ago. I like adult themes and the dark fantasy feel of Diablo 4 is right my alley.

As far as combat goes: It is less spammy, slower and probably bit more tactical than ever before (it’s up to ones taste if it’s a good thing or not, but for me it is). One advice I can give you is to rely on skill synergies. I haven’t played all the class there but some (like sorceress) have really obvious synergies between different abilities. It really makes combat easier and faster.

i agree with pretty much all of this post. i’ve had to fight off the feeling of sheer boredum playing this game

now im just trying to hit 50 to unlock the paragon board not cause im having fun but because im coping that the gylph whatever system will somehow make this slog actually fun… big copium

If you pay for this after the Beta and stress test you don’t deserve the refound. It is literally the same but with more content in the live version. Did you expect something different in release?

There comes a point around lv 40 that you are forced to upgrade your weapons via the blacksmith… or you cannot reemain competitive.

Not much is going to change.

I saw dude from maxroll playing necro in nightmare dungeons,he literally ran around every pack for 20-30 seconds, trying to kill them and waiting for his cd’s.

What do you exactly mean with this?

“I’m not sure who decided that the best way to make a boss fight challenging was to add so much mobile garbage to the arena that it’s frequently impossible to do anything other than dodge, by which I mean walk around very slowly.”

So, slow walking and dodging are considered mobile games nowadays? I mean, this is what I get from your text.

Or do you mean something else? I mean, what kind of mechanic do you consider “mobile” in a boss fight, that makes you walk slow or dodge.

Because I don’t really get it. So, what do you consider “mobille” in Diablo 4.

I found the other poor soul playing druid. Suffer well friend and come join the rest of us. It gets better as you level

You just made that word up. I looked ingame, there is no mention of a “damage bucket”.

Ofcourse damage bucket is a description of damage type specific mechanic to simplify. Never stated that this is ingame description, tought it was clear. Watch this Diablo 4: All Mechanics Terms Explained - Everything You Need to Know - YouTube

although I don’t totally Agree with everything I do have to agree with some

as a level 30 Rogue I have tried not go down the cookie cutter path of “twisted Blades” and prefer a more ranged approach however I simply cannot manage to complete the "call of the Ancients Dungeon "the boss throws out these spooky heads which follow you around and although I have tried dodging them due to the other mobs present I have to at some point stand still and fight at which point all 4 of them seem to converge on me and its almost insta-death I cant face tank the boss cos insta -death in the end I’m basically dodging around trying not to die and therefore cant concentrate on damaging the boss !obviously I’ve managed to complete a lot of other dungeons successfully and I shouldn’t have to consider what is basically a side quest as a skill or damage check? it has really diminished my enthusiasm to play d4

What do you consider “mobile” in Diablo 4?

My poor explanation. By mobile I meant moving. The slow bolas-like red projectiles in the Vhenard fight, the partially heat-seeking bullets in the same arena, the waves in the Lilith’s Lament fight, that sort of thing.

I’ve found the gameplay of melee rogue quite fast-paced after the first 10-15 levels, it’s really one of the best experiences I’ve had in a game. Didn’t read any guides either, I just pick what seems/feels good.
If you give it another chance, I hope you find a build you enjoy as well.
