I’ve been a loyal fan of Blizzard for years. I’ve sunk countless hours into their games and always admired the quality and passion they put into their products. But honestly, I’m beyond frustrated right now, and I know I’m not alone in this.
The download speeds on the Battle.net app are abysmal, and it feels like the issue is only getting worse over time. I’ve tried all the usual troubleshooting steps—changing regions, resetting the app, tweaking my network settings—but nothing helps. And judging by the thousands of complaints I’ve seen online, it’s clear this isn’t just a “me” problem.
What’s worse is that Blizzard doesn’t seem to care. People have been raising this issue for years, yet there’s been no real acknowledgment or fix. I don’t understand how a company as big and resourceful as Blizzard can allow something so basic to be such a mess.
I recently bought a game I was really excited to play, but guess what? I can’t even download it properly! At this point, I’m so disappointed that I’ve already asked for a refund.
Blizzard, if you’re reading this (and I hope you are), please know that ignoring your community’s concerns is only driving away your loyal fans. We love your games, but we deserve better service.
For those of you experiencing the same issue, what’s your experience been like? Have you found any workarounds that actually work? Let’s get this issue more visibility because enough is enough.
Absolute nonsense: I have a 1GB connection, regularly get 500 - 600MB download speeds when installing games through the Steam client, yet rarely get above 75MB in the battle net launcher.
I just wrote this in another post. Open your taskmanager while the download is ongoing and watch the performance of your harddrive that your downloading the gamefiles to. If it is running at a full 100% or if the numbers are going from 0 up to 100 and back down then your hardrive is causing the problems. It should never hit 100% if it does your download speed will drop dramatically and sometimes even stop and in real bad cases this stop or this slowing can take some time as your hardrive needs to recover from overbuffering.
The Problem is your download and read speed is way faster that the write speed of your harddrive and at some point the HD can´t handle it anymore so its stops feeding it with Data until the HD has room to buffer new date to be written.
I had the same problems needing over an hour for 5 GB and lots of lag in the game when switching playingfields. I took all the data and moved it on my EVO 980 Pro SSD and no more lag and a steady fast dowmload rate.
And don´t be fooled for some odd reason this was never a problem on other gameproviders like steam, even if your steam downloads work perfectly fine that does not mean it should be fine here too.
If I were to guess, it is because Blizzard installs / unpacks while downloading, but Steam downloads first and then installs. In the end the total time spent should be pretty similar.
This answer is very basic and aiming to help people that have no idea what’s going on in their computers. I’ll not explain this with DETAILS again, this is Blizzard issue. I have downloaded the same game with DLC on steam. Took me 32 minutes to finish. On battle.net it took me around 7 hours.
