After doing a quick Google search for the error in the logs, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED, it looks like this has affected a lot of games in the past. Below seems to be a solution to it, which basically sets a time out to 10 seconds rather than 2 when CPU loses some sort of connection to the GPU.
Going to try this now and see how it goes.
In the registry, go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers” and create a key of type “DWORD (32-bit)” and name “TdrDelay” with a value of 10 as Decimal value.
Reboot
Edit: 2 hours so far and no crashes…
Sadly, modifying TdrDelay
doesn’t work for me.

So I still got a crash with the TdrDelay change…
Trying the below reg settings atm. Played all morning for a few hours and no crashes so far.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers]
"TdrLevel"=dword:00000003
"TdrDelay"=dword:00000078
"TdrDdiDelay"=dword:0000003c
"TdrTestMode"=dword:00000000
"TdrDebugMode"=dword:00000002
"TdrLimitTime"=dword:00000078
"TdrLimitCount"=dword:00000005
Same error for me. Game crash after some minutes of playing.
I tried:
- Bios updated
- Nvidia drivers updated
- Lower graphics video specs
Same error
This did not help me, I did it a long time ago, I found it on the Internet. After 02.06 - I don’t even have a Fenris error, but Prizm. Error #1. What it is - there is not even information in the Internet.
It seems to have sort of helped me a bit, but now getting a different crash… hopefully Blizz are actually looking in to these crash logs they are getting sent and put a fix in place.
i had a similar issue since 4 june.
i solved every thing today with that “slow-page-file-growth-memory-allocation-errors”
(it should be the first result on learn.microsoft. com)
(i have a i5-1260KF, rtx 3060 ti and 16 gb of ram)
p.s. although I don’t know if it’s because of the last patch
Hello, everyone.
I am sorry to hear about the problems you are all going through with Diablo IV, and I can confirm that we have a series of possibilities that the developers are investigating, in relation to these crashes.
We do need some data from you if are willing to provide it to us so that we can forward it to the developers, in order to assist with the investigations.
In particular what we need are 2 files:
- FenrisDebug.txt that you can find in the game installation folder itself. (default would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo IV, unless you installed it somewhere else)
- LocalPrefs.txt that you can find under …\Documents\Diablo IV
You can upload these on Pastebin as some have done for other files.
I appreciate that the situation is quite frustrating for all the people that are suffering from these issues, I do apologize for the disservice and I do appreciate any help with this that you can provide.

Hi,
here is one of mine. unfortunately a second one I wanted to upload is bigger than 512 KByte which pastebin denies.

I have a lot here, hopefully this helps. Been crashing every 5-45 minutes since June 2nd release, somewhere between 100-200 total crashes. I have no idea how many at this point. There are already 7 “FenrisDebug.txt” documents in my Diablo IV folder, since my latest uninstall/reinstall yesterday. However, I can only link 2 of them. Please message me if the other 6 fenrisdebug.txt would be helpful.

I got the same error. I can’t play more than 15-30 minutes before crashing with a Fenris error for the last 2 days (I have the standard version). It’s really frustrating, I really want to play HC with my friends, but it just impossible, I haven’t been gaming for 10 years, but I even build my own computer just to play with Diablo 4. I can’t post more than 2 links, but I have all of them if you need them (7 FenrisDebug files).

i just when to the my documents/diablo 4 folder and deleted the localprefs.text file
after that ive had no issues at all
same here. can t play 5 minutes without crash. vga memory always at 100% of use
Hi,
I share the same problem as the others. Here are my logs (unfortunately, I can only post 2 links):
Fenris Debug 6
LocalPrefs
I keep encountering the following errors:
- [Crash] GetLastError() = 126 The specified module could not be found.
- [Game] [Prism] Device removal detected.
- [Game] [Out of Memory] Diablo IV ran out of memory.
At the suggestion of a friend I tried playing with Mouse and Keyboard instead of controller and its seemed better since then. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with this… but its been my first day without a crash since launch… so yeah…
Not sure if this will help… but yeah.
Have also been encountering the crashes fairly frequent (at least 2-3 times per day). Tried all the potential solutions to no avail.
FenrisDebug
UserPrefs
I see the same errors logged everytime:
[Game] pm_dxgi::Instance::Present: Present Failed - Error : Invalid, SystemCode : 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG)|
[Game] [Prism] Present Failed - Error : Invalid, SystemCode : 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG)
[Game] [Prism] pmCmdQueue::Present - Error : Invalid, SystemCode : 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG)
[Game] [Prism] Device removal detected.
