I know its very hard because the game is so garbage, but try it man. Go log in on your highest character and then play the game. You can achieve lvl 80 no problemo, no skill involve. You just need the mental strength of a manufactory line worker. Mental training, if you can overcome this boring Diablo Chore thing, overcome the Diablo Bore and just bite trough it you can achieve anything in life. Im 100% sure. Play more than 2h Diablo Bore at lvl 80 and YOU WILL WANT TO DO YOUR TAXES. PERFECTLY FINE! It also helps with insomnia, you can not sleep? no problemo, play a round of Diablo Bore and you sleep like a baby, i admit, you wake up and cry because you lost precious lifetime while playing, but hey, you slept man, gotta be positive right Flanders?

I just watch ingame, i watch my friendslist and clanmembers, I also use other clans and check how many are playing. Getting a good portion of sample size, mixed from different people. I also watch twitch viewnumbers, watching youtube (you see the videos there), paid reviews and metacritic and google trends. And the number is significant smaller than the number sold.
But ye, some people lack understanding and need others to show them. And I would back up my assumptions, but sadly blizz denies it (maybe you try to ask yourself WHY ?). You’re dealing with someone who played D3 for 13,000 hours and probably never even made it to the end game, happy with each minor seasonal change for Every single season, certainly could not compete even with casual players when it comes to skill, I reckon they walk around in circles gawping at a tree for 5 hours and think it was time well spent.
7,000 hours playing the same class every day for a decade. I think it has caused them brain damage, early on-set dementia, would explain why they are happy with Diablo 3.5, familiarity is comforting to the mentally unstable… but give them some slack, they are locked away from the outside world in a soundproofed room using voice-to-text software, literally saying out loud the drivel they output, it’s all they have, “I love the game!!”, “you’re wrong you’re wrong”, “Damn those review bombers, 10/10 is the only review that counts!”, over and over and over again. The denial is strong in this one.
It takes a certain type of brain to enjoy such repetitiveness (And Diablo 4/Bore is perfect for that), that or the incoming existential crisis they will face when they realise their plan of playing Diablo Bore for another 10 years might be a bit much. But they have nothing else in life.

Its true, theres no end game progression, theres nothing for you to achieve after level 80. The upgrades are miniscule, you still get sacred and blue items in nightmare dungeons +50. Im so incredibly bored, with doing the same things over and over, witouth getting rewarded. At least in D3 you would still get some power from paragon levels.
Look at all this projection. You must be fed up with always being upset for being proven wrong.
