When are you finally going to fix the translation of the damages into a language other than American English?
And I’m referring to the confusion that arises because a billion in damages in the United States, Canada, and Australia are six zeros, but in the rest of the world, such as Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and most countries, they are twelve zeros.
When you play, you see on screen, for example, 50 Mil MiLL. (50.000.000.000.000) Does that should appear on screen as 50B of Billions , with twelve zeros? In my language region of european
Then you see damage with a B, which in my language should appear as a T, not a B.
T for TriLLON with 18 zeros ,for example 20T is (20.000.000.000.000.000.000)
Maybe what they should do is remove the on-screen damage and put a tab in the player profile that shows the damage you are doing.
in European countries
1M. (Millon) has 6 Zeros = 1.000.000
1B. (Billion) has 12 zeros = 1,000,000,000,000
It’s not a million millions like you say.
1B is a thousand millons
and in the game it is shown this way Mil Mill
and 1T “Trillion” if it’s a million millions with 18 zeros = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000
What you’re saying only applies to players in the United States, Canada, and Australia. For the rest of the world, It is otherwise and does not display correctly in the game.
And I mean, if the game is in any European language, they haven’t implemented the correct way to display damage.
When this “Mil Mill” damage text appears in the game, it should appear as 1B.
Because in Europe, thousand Millons
is 1B with twelve zeros.
Here I show you what I am trying to report and that the damage is not well represented.
With the same character in a pit of the same level
One image with the game in Spanish
The other with the game in English
I think we all agree that I’m not going to do any more harm by putting the game in English.
PS: remove spaces from the image link
In Spanish:
https : // postimg .cc / NLfndqTj
You see the image and it says 107 Thousand Mill (MM)
“MM” should actually be represented as a “B” (Billon)
And you also see a damage that says 18.8 Bill.
That’s also wrong.
In my language, that should be a “T” for Trillion.
and here is the image with the game in English
https : // postimg . cc / K3SRvrt9
Here you can see that the damage is well represented
with 35.5 B of (Billion) and 10.2 T of (Trillion)
The character is the same, I do the same damage.
With the game in Spanish, the translation of the damage was done wrong
They need to replace the damage that says “MM” with B.
The damage that says Bill should be replaced with T.
It doesnt say 107 thousand mill, it says 107 mill, big difference.
There is nothing wrong with the numbers represented here, they are accurate and formatted by standard math rules.
I see the text, but this has nothing to do with numeral values, just formatting. “mill” and “M” both mean million, “bill” and “B” both mean billion. For some reason Blizzard went with one in the english version and another in the spanish, but the numeral values are still the same. 1 million has 6 zero’s, one billion has 9, 1 trillon has 12. That is indisputable.
I see the “mill mill” now, and you are right that is odd, and you are right to call it out, seems like a formatting bug. But it doesnt change the fact that you got your zero’s wrong in your previous post, wich was kinda what i was pointing out.
Also, you can customize how the numbers are presented in the settings, have you tried tinkering with that?
The numerical values are the same, because you do the same damage, but I want to see the damage I do clearly represented in my language.
and in my language it is not well represented
PS: Check out the previous post I edited to see the 107 Mil. Mill image.
Edit: I wasn’t mistaken.
Depending on the region you’re from, a billion has more or less zeros.
In Spanish, it is as simple as putting only three letters for the damage.
You said million has 6 zero’s, but wrote it: 1.000.000.000, that is wrong, because there are 9 zero’s. Either way, im not gonna debate this further, wether your numbers are right or wrong, you have a point with the “mill mill” thing, that is deffinitly not as it should be, as mentioned in my previous post.
In European contexts, particularly in financial or scientific writing, “million” can be abbreviated as M, MM, or mn. The choice depends on the specific context and style guide being followed. Other variations like Mio (German/Italian), Mio. (German), or Mln (often in financial contexts) may also be encountered.
Here’s a breakdown:
M: Widely used, especially in financial writing.
MM: Common in financial contexts, representing “thousand thousands”.
mn: Increasingly adopted, including by the Financial Times.
Mio, Mio., Mln: Used in various European languages and financial contexts.
Mega (M): Used in scientific notation and with SI units (e.g., MW for megawatt).
10^6: Scientific notation for one million.
Furthermore, normally K is used to abreviate mil (1000)
And yes, i live in Europe…
Now your issue might be related to billion
Once more, Google:
In American English, a billion is one thousand million (1,000,000,000), while in most of Europe, a billion is traditionally one million million (1,000,000,000,000). However, in the UK, the term “billion” is now officially used to mean one thousand million, aligning with the American usage.
Key Differences:
United States: A billion is 10^9 (1,000,000,000).
Most of Europe: A billion is 10^12 (1,000,000,000,000).
United Kingdom: While historically meaning one million million, the UK now officially uses the American definition of one thousand million.
As far as I know, the damage is well represented in Season 7. I didn’t play Season 8, so I assume this was added this season.
In my opinion, they should remove the damage on the screen and added a tab in the game chat, where the trade chat and group chat are, add a tab there for damage
These tabs can be expanded, and there you can put both damage and crowd control effects,it could be seen better and they could even put percentages, etc… of all the damage effects you do.
Floating damage is already an option, and it’s also forced, it’s the only way to see damage in the game, activating floating damage in options,They are forcing you to activate floating damage if you want to see the damage you do.
But what about those who don’t have a powerful enough PC and have floating damage use up a lot of PC resources?
will they never be able to see the damage they do?
That’s why it’s also a good idea to have a simple tab in the chat, which you can open whenever you want and see the damage, without needing to have floating damage on the screen, to know the damage you do.
I have friends playing on PC, and they don’t know the damage they do, because activating floating damage consumes a lot of resources on the PC.
So I think having another option to see damage and not being forced to put floating damage to see your damage is a good idea.
Yes, as an alternative, not a replacement for the existing one. There will be people who like to see floating damage, others who prefer to have their screen clear of those numbers, and some who have no choice but to disable floating damage because their PC doesn’t have enough resources, could use another option.
I think it would be beneficial in any case.
It’s funny that we started talking about how damage was incorrect in other languages, but we ended up talking about implementing another method for viewing damage.
i also want to throw in that it is somehow too hard to have a simple calculator for regional damages.
if my client is in english i expect english numbers and text
if it is on say german, it must have appropriate text
1B in Germany is not 1B in english
there is no need to throw numbers in here, everyone can google that for themselves.
if my client is e.g. german, it must show Mrd not B
same goes for every country. how is this even an oversight? kinda racist to assume EVERYONE in the whole world knows how english numbers work.
also: who looks at numbers? i have all damage text completely removed since they gave us the feature, i want to play a game and not read my dmg all the time lol
There is long scale and a short scale.
Colloquially, Americans use short scale, but formally they also use long scale that the Europeans always use. And by “formal” I mean “scientifically”.
https:// en.wikipedia .org/wiki /Long_and_short_scales Can’t link so you have to fix that yourself.
Supposedly the Americans adopted the short scale to have it seem that they were wealthier, like everything is bigger in Texas. But that’s just a supposition I entertain.
They do use long scale in their scientific community because it is a richer scale and more useful, especially when dealing with very large numbers.
