Game keeps crashing on character select

Hi there,

Been waiting well over 2 weeks in the hopes that the crashing was an update.
However, after a minor patch my game keeps freezing at character selection the moment it enters. My entire ps5 freezes and becomes unresponsive untill I get a prompt that the game has crashed and sent a report of it to Sony.
Tried reinstalling the game, power cycled my ps5 but none had helped so far.
No other games on my PS are experiencing crashes so its specific to D4.
Had just purchased Vessel of Hatred and was looking forward to finshing this season and the release but this is quite the bummer as Im no longer able to play the game.

Hopefully someone can shed some light and/or help!

I am on the US servers on PS5 and was experiencing the same issue. Through trial and error I believe I have narrowed the issue down to the Necromancer character. I have also found a temporary work-around but it does require you to have access to Diablo IV on PC.

  1. Start Diablo IV on your PC and, assuming you have a Necromancer as your #1 listed character, reorder your character list; placing the Necro ANYWHERE other than the top.
  2. Exit Diablo IV on your PC.
  3. Start Diablo IV on your console.
  4. Your character list “should” adopt the new order from your PC.
  5. Game should be playable; including access to the Necro character.
  6. Do NOT reorder the Necro back to the #1 position or the game WILL freeze up again.

I hope this helps, and REALLY hope Blizzard fixes this issue. I also noticed the Necro character crashed my game on PC during the PTR. There really seems to be an issue with that class.

Lol for some reason this might make sense

My necro is in #1 position and is also greyed out in the char list which makes it look like its bugged out.

Ill try and see if support is able to delete the char as I do not have access to D4 on PC and I sure as hell am not going to buy another copy of the game for it

Welp, support is exactly 0 of help. Nor do they read the tickers or responses are auto responses. Hopefully this will be read by someone here as the ticket says I should make a forum post (Which I did, link in the ticket).

As of now, no solution, game still crashes and CS is unhelpfull so the game is still unplayable.
Unbelievable…

EDIT 2:
Keep getting the same nonsense response to my tickets with helpguides troubleshooting for PC.
Would love if a mod here would be able to respond as im not getting any help I need…
