I spent my time doing wave after wave, thinking it would and at wave 10. It didnt, i could just end the event either, and get the chests is did so far. Wasted like 30 minutes doing it. What gives?

Same problem here. Got 10 chests as reward but nothing happens.
Same got up to 11 going on 12 and no reward.
Same thing. Not getting XP was bad enough, but then it never ends and even when I let them kill me the event didn’t end either so I had to TP out.
Same here, I tried everything. At least it seems to give some Zakarum Remnants

AHH, so it is a bug 
just got into one from a Realmwalker portal and currently on 13 chests but timer does nothing and porting out just seems to pause the mobs till I return, so I’m totally just wasting my time LOL many thanks
Darned Bug!.. I was upto 14 Chests (stubborn, I guess) before I checked to see if it was just me… LOL
