Hello. I can’t launch the game through the client battle.net . When I do this, the error “Steam must be running to play this game” appears. It appears whether the steam is open or not.
Even through the steam client itself, I can’t open it. How can I solve this problem?
Reinstalling, rebooting and logging in does not work
I purchased Diablo IV on Blizzard, net and played the trial on Steam. After the free trial period expired, I encountered the same error. Out of curiosity, I scoured the forum for a solution, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find a satisfactory one. A bit frustrated, I uninstalled the game again and noticed that three files remained in the former Diablo IV folder, including the ‘steam_api64.dll’ file.
Thinking, why not, since I couldn’t play the game, I decided to reinstall it. After encountering the error again, I simply deleted ‘steam_api64.dll’ and tried to start the game once more. To my surprise, the game launched without any error messages or similar complications. My question is whether this solution would violate the game’s terms of service or if, in this case, an exception would be made since I’m not modifying files but simply deleting them.
