Hi everyone. I’m not sure I have a good grasp on this yet. To decide, I just check what the scores show for my two main attack skills, when I change to a new weapon I find promising. Lvl 34 Lunging Strike+Upheaval Barbarian, tier 2.
Right now, I’m confused. A weapon with clearly better stats gives me lower dam on Lunging Strike. A one-handed sword, in both cases. So, same speed.
+9.5% Vulnerable Dam.
+15.5% Dam Basic.
+8.5% Close Dam.
+7% Dam to Stunned.
Double Swing twice in 2" and you get a 132 dam dust devil.
1 empty socket.
(I don’t think I’ll use the Legendary aspect, and I plan on putting a topaz in the socket.)
I just think that #2 should provide a higher damage. Its DPS is +32 over #1, 13,5% higher. That should more than compensate for the +Dam Basic being slightly lower, when using Lunging Strike. But my Dam goes down from 352 to 345, when I use #2 instead of #1.
The different is not big, but it’s the confusion that concerns me. I wanna figure out how this works.
Also, am I assuming correctly, that the stats on the weapons are separated by a line, because the first part affects its usage but the second one grants its benefits regardless of the weapon used?
Also, any suggestions would be welcome. I don’t wanna be all hardcore super efficient. Just avoid decisions bad enough that they’d cripple my gameplay.
Until you get the Exploit glyph from the Paragon board at lvl50+ Vulnerable damage for Barb is useless, maybe if you take 3 points in pressure point (vulnerable lucky hit) you can make some use of it, but a lucky hit is a 25% chance on Upheaval. Once you have exploit glyph Vulnerable damage is extremely strong. In this case it doesn’t matter for you because you’re low level, so ignore that stat for now. I
Ok regarding Lunging Strike. Lunging Strike damage will be based on the weapon you’re using with that spell, the rare gives more damage because it has higher “Basic damage” which is increasing your Lunging Strike damage, the dps on that 1hand sword doesn’t matter because you’re not using that weapon to do Lunging Strike, you’re likely using a 2hander.
The dps on a weapon ONLY matters if you’re using that weapon to attack with the spell, otherwise only the stats matter. Furthermore, many stats do not show their effect on the tooltip (Vulnerable, Close, Slowed, Crowd Controlled, Stunned, Distant etc etc). Core/Basic will because they are specific to those class of spells.
I think I get you. Yes, Lunging Strike uses a single two-handed weapon. So, the calculation for it doesn’t consider my one-handed weapons’ damage. But it DOES consider the general bonuses those weapons give to the whole build.
Right?
This is something I understood before, but I keep forgetting. And yes, I realise that many circumstance-based damage bonuses don’t show up because the main damage stats for the skills only show regular damage.
This also confirms my assumption, about what stats from a given item affect the whole build, right?
This is exactly correct, the stats all matter for the entire build, but the weapon dps only matters if you’re using that specific weapon to deal damage. So in your case maybe you’re using your 2hand Mace for both Lunging and Upheaval, which would mean the other 3 weapons are only used to boost stats.
I played Lunging/Upheaval for a while too, I found basic skill damage was extremely strong low level, even socketing my weapons with Topaz. At level50+ everything really gets turned upside down due to Vulnerable and how powerful it is, but you can see this on Maxxroll with their barb guides.
