Hello dear forum. 38years old from Sweden here. Please, i will make a few typing/grammar-error. I am a father of one, and a principal of a school. Im a vivid Diablo-player and i always have been a casual (but serious) player.
I have never written anything in any forum i think, maybe once 7-8 years ago. Not at anytime in Diablo3-career or WoW. I only read. I am probably one of the least complainent gamer. I understand that balancing games/classes/mechanics/skills/items almost never ends and im perfectly fine with that.
I do not need complaints, i dont need excuses. I need help with something that i know many of us need help with. Surviveability. And i cant find any constructive anywhere. I do not need to be as tough as fellow druids or barbs.
I am lvl 83. I have good gear with the right stats show by competent guides along with paragon board. I am Blizzard/Iceshard hybrid. And i instantly die from almost anything past lvl50 Nightmare. I play after Tenkiei Hybrid Blizz/Ice Shard build at Maxroll
Ballistas kills me through barrier from 100%
Normal archers oneshot me. And the list goes on. Already at lvl 50-52 Tier.
I have full defensive stats on head and legs and allso max-HP on rings. I know what im doing. But same-level classes i play with just breeze through 60+ dungeons.
I know and understand the state of sorc. So no need in this post to repeat it. I want to solve it as best as we can for now.
Do i keep Glass Cannon? All guides i see says i should keep it.
Do i keep Devouring Blaze and Enchantement?
Can i change anything from the above link/build.
This is not the thread to show frustration. I love Sorceress/Wizards in all games, and refuse to reroll. But what can i change to improve being hybrid frost-build or pure blizzard-build?

Hello,
I have bad news: if you are level 87, then you will not be able to solo NMD T60+ with a sorc. So first, level up to 100. Then you can try to push NMDs.
You have to decide what you want to do. if you want to do T90+ NMDs, then you must get rid of ALL defensive stats. You must go full DPS and exploit the Control-bug or the Hydra bug. (there is no other way).
But you sound a different type of guy, so i assume you want to see which NMD you can reach without not going full glass. So in this case, put only defensive affixes on the chest armor and pants. Some hp on rings can’t hurt. Select at lease few defensive nodes on the paragon board as well, especially those which doesn’t need too many points to reach.
Put defensive legendary power to helm, chest, pants, legs. (one should be the CC spread, which i would say both defensive and offensive)
Proper Blizzard and Iceshard hybrid build (not sure about Maxroll, tbh) will enable to do tier 70-80. Unfortunately you will not be able to complete most dungeons above 70, for example which has ballistas or backstabbers or death chambers with elites.
Devouring blaze + firebolt enchantment is a must. Glass cannon can be dropped if you value survivability. (If you got into the sorcerer end game playstyle you can swap the chest armor to Raiment and use meteor for immobilize. (basicly exploiting the Control-bug))
Honestly, i like the game, but it is totally broken and unfinished, especially the sorcerer class.
It is very important not to trust anyone’s opinion who is not max level and never did NMD T80+ ! 90% of the youtube videos i saw showcasing the “new best build” and they jump around in NMD T40…
(I soloed T84, and did T89 in a party and a father of a 7month old + a stressful full time job)

Hello Yeowan.
First of all i appreciate your answer alot. I think that you pinpointed me as a type of guy correctly and i am in no way a person who is interested in going full astronaut deep into NMD or Greater Rift in D3 for leaderboards.
Let me break down my thoughts of your answer insted of writing a compact wall of text.
- I have the Rainment Chest so no defensive stats there. I am going hard on defensive stats on head and legs. Allso max HP on both rings.
- Can you take a look at the guide im following for pure Blizzard. I have been gearing for a long time after it, and allso copied the paragon build. I do not dare to change any paragon. Its the “Blizzard Sorcerer Endgame Guide” on Maxroll made from the “Northwar” Is the paragon decent? My feeling comparing other build is that it is a pretty standard way to go from what i can tell.
- I dont have the aspect CC spread and i have never seen anyone use it, i strictly use the ones in the guide and i am going back to full Blizz build and i will leave the hybrid build.
- Alright, i will stick with the Devouring blaze + firebolt. And i rather go Flame barrier for the immobalize than proc meteor if there is no real advantage to the meteor-path?
- Your ability to solo T84 is assuring to me, and i agree with you that its hard to trust opinions, but i trust yours because of your reasoning and i think you.
I also concratulate you to your 7months old. First name? : )

Sad news because im simmilarly bothered with the D4.
-
Ruby gems into armor and skulls into Amulets.
The way those imbeciles at Blizzard balance games… World Tier 4 reduces your resistances by 40%, but at the same time half the value of Armor reduces elemental/magic damage. Ignore resistances, focus on armor.
-
You should be able to solo up to 60 NDs, but really on 48+ there is just too many one hit kill enemies. Especially those revenants, that move 10 times faster than player and have a swing of half the screen and its a cleave.
-
Try using Hydra as bait, and just spam Ice shards at where Hydra attacks. Enemies stop comming, move a screena nd place Sonar Hydra for more bait. My 1st lvl 52 dungeon i never seen enemy on my screen outside the “doom box room” and enemies suddenly spawning all around you.
-
Ignore Ice Shield. Its not a shield, its mana regen buff, which frankly i think is bugged and doesnt work. Fire shield and teleport are your damage mitigation. Frost Ultimate… in my experience enemies perfectly time the moment it breaks and one hit kill. Its more of a trap.
-
Blizard are imbeciles in balance which I already stated. They make game mechanics they dont understand, then they put “Build altering uniques and aspects”, and than they balance the game for them.
I dont remember since when, but around Pandaria or even Cataclysm You either had BIS (best in Slot) or you sucked.
WoW - Draenor and Legion, There were BiS drops from Elites or World bosses that buffed your damage by 10% compared to alternative/second item available for the slot.
HotS - They changed to One OP Build per hero, get a different and you are terrible. And mostly other players flamed you for not doing meta build, and Blizzard didint do jack about it, just more Best Builds, reworks of Best Builds and new heroes with Best Builds until it died.
Diablo 3 - Either you have OP legendary set or you suck. Than either you have BIS ancient weapon with superb rolls AND legendary set or you suck.
Diablo 4 - Either you min max around broken damage buckets or you suck. Now they add seasonal hearts, which will be the same. Get BIS socket and build around it or suck.
Dear Anzao.
Thank you for your reply.
I will try to extract the constructive help and tips from the bashing of the company that is visible in almost every other thread : )
The Hydra-bait was interesting, it sounds viable and safe but i have more or less never seen people playing like that. It has to be unusual?
dont watch Twitch.
Blizzard games are not created to be played, but to be streamed, they care about that 1000 streamers over rest of playerbase.
Play the game, experiment. Or dont buy games, just watch streams.
Dear Sorcerer´s.
Would it be possible for anyone of you who has above average insight to continue this thread?
Yeowan posted some really interesting things and i replied with followup questions.
I would appreciate alot if the path of reasoning Yeowan started would continue.
I appreciate you, Sorceress aligned.
Hi.
I reached level 100 as sorcerer and stopped playing after that.
When the game launched I was thrilled by the idea of a pure lightning build. In early and mid game it was nice and I could clear everthing easily, but when reaching level 70 aprox., I realized that it was taking me a lot of time and effort to progress.
I watched some youtube videos, specially from RageGamingVideos, and I realized that I was wasting time in a build that could not compete with others.
Sorcerer has always been a fragile class that had to do damage from distance: a ranged damage dealer. But in D4 devs decided that this class should be a melee class. Lightning skills are mostly melee (crackling energy, vyrs, arc lash, charged bolts), or at least the best ones.
Sorcerer needs a HUGE rework of all skills, paragon boards, aspects and uniques.
Try these links:
These videos are funny and sad at the same time:
This link in reddit is a nice analysis of sorcerer:

I hope you can get something constructive for your build.
Best wishes my fellow sorcerer.
Zeus, i thank you alot for your answer. Iw ill try to scavenge for some answers.
I really appreciate your efforts for me, and i will take part of everything you linked.
Love
The most recent news from the devs is that they are aware of the sorcerer’s broken survivability, but it will take them a while to rebalance things to fix it. Sorcerer was my first character in D4, and is the one I have most progress with, before a lot of the nerfs. He’s now stuck at level 51 and unable to survive world tier 1. I’m not deleting him, but I am “putting him on the shelf” until the class gets made viable again. For now, I’d say that’s the best course of action. Find a more survivable class and have them avenge our nerfed sorcerers.

Posts like this baffled me. I played barbarian as my first character and I felt immortal most of the time, aside from occasional poop on the ground which made me actually use a potion. Butcher and every boss was facetank and not care…
Then I went to help some friends on the necros and was surprised they died at every turn for no reason. Sure the mobs were higher level than them, but wauw … then I see so many posts about sorcerer survivability being broken.
I’ve watched videos for inspiration for my builds on sorcerer and did notice that absolutely every build revolves around teleporting in with the rainment and blowing stuff up as fast as possible, chaining stuns and freezes and the shield.
Then I tried to compare the differences between sorcerers and my barbarian.
Barb has 10% base mitigation, which in the grand scheme of things isn’t a lot.
However, since strength is its main stat, it has quite a lot of armor and mine has been capped at 100% to level for most of the game. And the paragon boards actually has useful mitigation stats, whereas the sorcerer’s certainly doesn’t (it’s all garbage).
How this translates to being able to facetank everything, compared to getting one shot on other classes re maybe less baffling then.
And I’m thinking it comes down to how damage is calculated and the fact that world tier 4 just has a flat reduction to overall mitigation with some classes having trouble getting over the threshold to actually have any meaningful survivability.
I imagine that going full into armor and flat constant % reduction stats is the only way to maybe get above the threshold for sorcerers to actually take less damage.
However, thinking of how many little odd bugs there are in the game, it wouldn’t surprise me if something just makes some classes take ten times the damage.
I’d wait and see about 1.1.1, or try to stack as much armor, hp and flat damage reduction as possible, or go full control/dps build and imagine myself playing PoE, hoping not to get instantly killed out of nowhere.
They need to redo absolutely everything about the paragon trees, resistances, skills and mitigation passives for sorcerer in my mind.
Like, why doesn’t ice armor give … actual armor?
They can’t do that anytime quick though, so what we’ll likely see is some must have aspect or something to help until they eventually get around to fixing sorcerers from the ground up (hoping they will!).
I’m having a lot of fun with my crazy lightning build at the moment, but I’ll likely shelve it when I hit the survivability barrier, unless I’m lucky enough to get a rainment before then.
