I bought an add-on specifically for this season and am preparing to play D4 after a year off. I know that a lot of improvements have been added and also a lot of changes - but I noticed already today that it is still impossible to turn off the mini map completely
Im bringing up this topic - Blizzard - I suspect that for you guys this is a moment to add the option to check or uncheck the minimap.
Because lately this has been the main reason why I stopped playing - because I was constantly looking at the minimap and not at what was happening and the world around me in the game.
i think your concern is a very valid one.
in diablo 2 the minimap can be laid as a shadow across the gamefield, here i have to glance across my ultrawide 5120x1440 (edit: those black bars at the far end of the screen could be used to show my inventory and my stats permanently, btw) screen to the right corner, which is pretty much terrible. I never would though, if it weren’t for the goblins and because i will always run out of map out in the open.
i think the option to hide it is a good one but for me i want to put it low center, where the cooldowns are. i know what skills i equipped and i’d like to rearrange those cooldown markers to suit me.
My counterproposal to allowing hiding the minimap is to allow at least limited customization to the UI, including hiding and moving elements.

Why not just let us arrange the entire screen ourselves, as an option?

Exactly. More freedom in what is displayed on the screen - not just numbers obfuscating visibility ( thank god that can be turned off ) But it would still be useful to have the option to set a minimap and party or even display or not quests
The graphics in this game are very nice and every time I lament how the interface distracts me
