I spent the weekend playing the Beta. Played all three classes a bit, mostly the barb and the soso.
I’m almost 49 years old and I’ve been playing since D1, including all the other games, GD, PoE, Wolcen etc…
I love the story. It’s f’ing engaging.
I love the graphics. Lilith looks evilishly charming. But, yes the camera. If you change just one thing after beta, I would beg you to zoom it out just a bit more. Even 10% would be fine. I can see that you want to keep the game as light on the system as possible and that closer zoom means less things to render, but it’s already light. I played it on a desktop and on an i5 laptop to check the thermals. Even the laptop played around 70c. So, there’s definitely nothing to worry about zooming out in the sense of system load. At least put an option, something like a checkbox in the settings to allow players decide to zoom out a bit.
Note: Please remove the paragon system.
I really like the game play and combat mechanics. Not as fast as in D3, which I hated. And also thanks for not turning it into something like in PoE where literally 100s of things happen in one single attack. Please keep it this way. And, this is probably because of my age, I would even prefer the skill animations a bit less bombastic. But, it’s not a deal-breaker for me.
Note: Please remove the paragon system.
The skill tree is fine but needs work. Please don’t turn it into a race of “who’s gonna make it more complex”. But the problem is, it’s linear. Although graphically it’s in zigzags, it’s a straight line. There must be intersections, more than one route possible to get to certain skills, nodes or perks or whatever you call them. And preferably, there should be nodes giving global buffs on the way to the next node. Just a stupid example ( since I’m not a game designer ) there might be a line from basic skills to defensive skills allowing you to bypass core skills but in the middle of the line there might be a node saying something like %10 increased lightning damage. Just by adding a few shortcuts we would enable much more build variety, which is a must. But again , nothing to complicated.
Note: Please remove the paragon system.
Now two things I would not like to see in the final game:
Please, remove the paragon system. It only does one thing: helping bots, so making the game very appealing for bot players . Nothing else. It’s useless otherwise.
I hope we won’t have that thing in D3, where we go into rifts but it’s just the same environment as another place in the game but with a colour filter / mask. Please, don’t do that.
Further opinion :
Item Crafting. Since we could only play up to lvl 25, we didn’t have much insight about this, but this is one thing that should set this game apart from others. And, I really really thing you should bring back runewords or at least something similar: Imprinting, codex of power and aspect system seemed fine, but again it was a limited experience to see how well it will do in end game.
Finally, again this is not a deal-breaker for me- but you can bring back stats distribution. It really works very well in New World as an example. People pay something to change their stats when needed e.g.: when I want to play tank I invest heavily on “constitution” which gives life in NW and in another case I invest heavily in Dex. I believe having such an option would also work on D4 too.
Nah, 95% of players dont believe in Flexibility…they believe in the META…they will ead a guide that says to do 2/1/1/1 and they will. every…single…time…
I watched this happen in Classic wow back in 2005…I watched it happen it every MMO since.
Stat weights only work when we get a chance to play tabletop D&D haha
Find my a build in D2 that doesnt say " enough str to sue gear, enough dex to hit block cap, rest in to vitality" lol
From D3 ?? Not only exactly the same thing but anything similar to that, around the same idea, in my opinion would ruin the game. People will bot and earn stupidly great advantage over others.
a cap doesnt mean that you wint have to grind 3 month straight 8h a day to reach it.
at leaat it gives you a goal that you are finished at one point but that goal post can be set so far away that you never reach it as well
Actually the paragon system might be exactly what you asked for the talent trees.
Online you can already find talent calculators which even show the structure and layout of a paragon tree. It is even devided in specializations like “wind” “earth” “wolf” “bear” “shapeshifting” which all have there own skilltree there.
If i remember correctly in some dev blog it said that the paragon system will allow you to alter your skills.
So with this i would assume the “skilltree” of the beta is just as a way to select the skills you want to use on your build and the paragon system actually giving you the tools to specialize. As some say, the paragon system looks like it is capped.
Of course there is the question how long it will take to unlock points there?
So far in the beta the leveling was super fast but the exp rates might be higher in beta then on release. Reaching lvl 25 in 3-4 hours…So the Paragon levels might just balance out the super fast leveling. At least for me it would be no difference spending lets say 48 hours playtime to reach maxlevel end unlocking all my skilltree or if i have to spend 8 hours reaching lvl 8 + 40 hours unlocking all points on the paragon skilltree. In the end it could be the same time investment
So you might want to look a bit more into the paragon system before wanting it removed just on speculations.
Ok. I must admit, it was my bad. I hadn’t been following the developments in what they now call “paragon board”. But, I’ve done my home work now.
I watched in one youtube video that it’s gonna be capped at 200 paragon points which sounds great and gives me a relief.
That’s also a possibility.
Yes. As far as I’ve seen in the videos, it is. But, still intersections and shorcuts from one skill group to the other in the skill tree will provide build variety.
Thanks for updating me about the new paragon system.
Chaos, I wish I could give better insights to endgame. I truly wish but my mouth is still sealed until a later date. The game has really good bones. I think the game we get at release and the game we have a year from now will be different. I am an older gamer. Not ancient but old. I really don’t complain. I accept what is given, I do give feedback, but will it make me quit, probably not.
Heck, I even endured Wolcen until a game breaking bug soft-locked my characters. I had well over 1300hrs and was unable to play. Anyhow I don’t want to derail and go into a Wolcen thread. I take a wait and see approach and I understand your points, however I also adopt the stance that I can control what I do and I can’t control what others do. I enjoy my content and I enjoy my time with my friends in a virtual world to forget stresses, not add undue, unnecessary ones.
Be well my friend and see you in the Eternal Realm.
