I love the skill hydra, I have always loved it ever since the d2 days. It is currently OP.
It needs a cooldown or something. It is very strong

Hydra’s lucky hit chance is too high (regardless of the lucky hit being divided by 3).
I think the damage is fine if lucky hits would be almost non existant.
Game was super easy once I got the staff giving me 2. Really fun though!
Good point there ! I really hope devs see this
Bullshit. No CD needed.
YOu saw the Hydra at lvl 25 and World Tier 2.
No one of us knows how it is with lvl 100 compaired to other classes.
Dont cry for nerfs or buffs yet!
Nerfing class on level 25 is beyond stupid especially all min maxed with lvl 35 item power weapons.
What else the sorc have? The chain was good at low levels but the damage fall off after 20+ And you got zero mana to spam it. The other spells? They are garbage damage wise.
Sorc needs huge buffs to other spells or they can just delete them.
Meteor tiny are doing zero dmg, Blizzard weak dmg, Ball lightning it just does nothing, thye have huge mana cost so you cant even cast them.
What about rest? Frozen orb just useless, Fireball ok damage but tiny aoe, Incinerate is joke it cost like 40 mana just to cast it first second, its worst skill of all.
Charged bolts also awful zero damage melee range spell.
All of their spells cost insane amount mana and basic attacks are also terrible zero damage and almost zero mana regen.
So why would you nerf Hydra which is like only one playable spell?
Passives are meh, 9 mana per 3 points and nodes 3% damage per point and plenty of half useless conditional nodes. Its pretty bad over all, but still one of the best class, but that means that other classes are extremely bad, not that sorc is so amazing.
feels like sorc needs a nuke attack, like barb has hammer, necro has bone spirit, rogue has shadow step. havent played druid so im not sure. but sorc damage feels more like slow burn and for crowd control, not too much on a focused nuke attack.
Sorc is fine ffs… sort the clunky barb out. And crack head necro skellys.
WT2 was too easy inmho …
They already deal massive dmg just not in a burst , giving sorc a nuke button would destroy the already messed up balance between classes as we speak , if you want to burst play rogue , simple as that really XD
It does not scale well to lategame. You should cry abuot barb instead
If the Hydra doesn’t do a decent amount of damage, then a decent build with Hydra as the main weapon is immediately history and that would be a mistake because hidden in the Hydra game concept is one of the few concepts to create a different feel to the game, that of the tactical wizard.
The resource system of D4, very much prevents different felt play styles because it is subjected to the always same construct of building up with pipifax spells and then the normal spells. With weakening the Hydra into a spell that doesn’t stand alone as a summon, the game concept will then have to be expanded so that you have to spam another spell again, and the Hydra becomes just a summoned DoT.
But that would bury the chance of a unique playstyle like the Hydra sorc in D2, and that can’t be the goal. After all, it works totally different as a temporary summon and not as a direct damage spell. Also a CD w
The problem here is simply the skill concept that will produce an OP skill, because you then have other skills besides the Hydra that are also derbly strong. In the combination, that becomes OP.
Just want to preface that I will be playing Sorc due to an affinity for it.
As I’ve said in a previous post I think the damage is fine, the no CD and fairly low mana cost…I feel there could be some wiggle room to at least punish a Sorc for a bad placement but I’m mostly thinking about how incredibly easy of a spell this is to just place down.
So far its incredibly nice to throw down with Frost Nova enchantment with decent luck hit chance and watch enemies aoe freeze automatically and that I’m sure will be a priority added benefit to Hydra planting in tier 3+ difficulty which will give the Sorc breathing room for “tactics”.
I still feel this spell is too easy mode though (hydra’s auto work, huge range), what I would like to potentially see is no damage nerfs to keep potential but perhaps:
It actually isn’t, the lucky hit is extremely low in effect. The way lucky hit is displayed for multi damage effects is deceptive, It’s actually a representation of the chance for a lucky crit if hydra attacked only a single target for the entire duration.
As to whether it’s OP, I tend to think balancing a ARPG around lvl 25 is pretty shortsighted. But I’d be fine making it something like a ~12 second CD, it would play well into the barrier on CD passive.
from what i understand Hydra doesnt scale well whereas weaker skills do
I would refrain from making assumptions. Frost Nova is a good area AoE freeze, being proc’d for free by Hydra’s that keep on firing and 1 will happen every 5 seconds or less.
By my experience, each head on a 30% increase lucky hit chance character (even when increased from 3>4 heads), has roughly a 30% chance to Lucky and then a requires a 30% chance to proc the Nova.
It is favourable that at least 1 of the four heads (4x30%=120%) is going to proc a lucky hit and going through the 30% chance to proc a Frost Nova and due to it being an AoE its “probably” going to work out favourably for your typical grind scenerio.
Trust me, I have cried plenty of tears for barb… And druid
