I fear that Blizzard will make Diablo 5 sooner than expected

Recently started on playing D4 again, I find it fun but I fear that Blizzard release Diablo 5 sooner than expected, also because Mike Ybarra last year stated that we would see Diablo 5 sooner than we did between D3 and D4. (The forum doesnt allow me to post links for some reason).

The game is built as a grinder where you can earn cosmetics etc, and seeing it being replaced fast is not something I want to support.

Not trying to be that person, but PoE’s cosmetics will work in PoE 2, and tbh I dont believe that would be the case with D5, so farming all these cosmetics seems worthless.

Like D4 is catered for the CoD annually farming segment that loses evyerhting anually.

From Diablo wiki: “The roots of Diablo IV lie in late 2013 or early 2014, where was cancelled, with the instruction that Team 3 move onto Diablo IV and Diablo Immortal, regardless of what form the game might take. Team 3 was split up, with some of its members transferring to different projects within Blizzard. Those who remained were assigned to provide patch support for Diablo III while simultaneously developing Diablo IV. Development of the game began in 2014. The initial project was referred to internally as “Hades”. However, Hades was cancelled in 2016, and Team 3 began work on Project Fenris.”

It took them 9 years to develop Diablo 4. Internal problems in company consumed a lot of this time, but still, i believe 5 years from now is the most optimistic (or pesimistic, i am pretty sure they are not capable to make a good “Diablo-like” game) scenario for making Diablo 5.

Don’t want to loose cosmetics? Don’t buy them. It’s just a fact that you are affraid of that means you don’t trust Blizzard. Me neither. It’s already a scam that we have to pay for our chars not look like dogshit in a full priced game.

Not only that, but also getting an expansion, just to see it replaced within a year or 2 by diablo 5. I like my ARPGs to have long legs, like D2 to D3, and D3 to D4.

Also worth mentioning that VoH expansion was in development before they even released D4, so yeah… not happening soon. At the current pace, it’ll end up as another game stuck in semi-maintenance mode like D3 was.
It would seem Blizzard is done making games, just look at their catalogue: Classic WoW and Warcraft scaled by AI; Overwatch 2 is just Overwatch (with a massive bait & switch).

There is one more confirmed expansion. If the competition gets things right (Titan Quest II, PoE 2) then D4 will be on life support and they will move more resources to part 5. In the end it all depends on number of active players and sales of cosmetics, Sadly people can’t stop buying cosmetics or playing this dull game.

They haven’t finished milking this game yet to be doing a 5th!

They’ll be milking it even if it’s on life support, trust!
They shoveled plenty of cash in already, it doesn’t matter if we think it’s a good game or not - it sold! And they’ll make another one, and so the wheel keeps spinning…
However, I think the fans’ good will is close to running out. I’m pretty sure they’ll follow in Ubisoft’s tracks.

The old fans are replaced by new ones with decent speed. I heard rumors about Diablo 1 remake - this would be better than D4, but obviously they will make it always online and no mods for multiplayer. D5 will be even more monetized than this one is - I just hope for all those stupid live service, gatcha crap to collapse. The shops in games are creating stupidity of various kinds - from more grind to buy xp boosters, to stupid cosmetics that no one asked for, and all of that on top of already full priced game.

People are starting to have enough of it and they are turning back towards single player titles. Plus, the regulations and consumer protection are starting to catch up (hopefully).
I think what you’ve heard about D1 is that the game was entirely remade and is now playable in your browser… but then again, I wouldn’t put it past Blizzard - I mean look at their current catalogue: World of Warcraft (a 2 decades old game),World of Warcraft Classic (re-release the same game and milk the nostalgia), Warcraft reforged/remastered (just pull everything through AI to upscale and you’re ready to charge the players again), Overwatch 2 (massive bait&switch and loads of broken promises with horrendous monetization).

Instead of playing D4, I’m playing Tetris99 on switch. That is enough of a D4 review:P
I like the concept of infinite game, but its like unicorns - it doesn’t exist. The only time it works a bit better is in competitive games like DOTA or LoL - where you have some skill requirements.
Anyway D4 would be much better as a normal game with mod support and dedicated servers players could setup for themselves. Game would be alive much longer, sold better and everyone would be able to adjust game to their liking + people would make much better content than Blizzard seasons.

Honestly, I genuinely don’t think the live service is a problem - the problem is the greediness with which it is done and the very much lacking development on it.
Here’s my take: even if the game were transitioned to fully offline, it would not change a single thing. The game would have the very same foundational problems. I mean… sure, you could tweak the numbers and figure it out on that front, but the activities are simply dull; the depth is also pretty much non-existent.

By the definition games of this type lack depth, its really simple concept a bit above the afk games, here you need to do the clicking. What depth is in any kind of those games? Like all you do is spam 1 or 2 abilities and pick up loot after. Giving it some fresh skin and various reasons to hunt the monsters will help a bit, but in the end its all the same stuff. They could go with more strategic gameplay, but that would make the killing slower, and it seems people don’t want slower game.
Look how dumbed down this game already is, from multi floor dungeons to almost straight line with some killing along the way, it was never about complexity, the whole D2 was running on the dark atmosphere, there is some of that here, but since they decided to go fast D3 style its boring. I can play Doom Eternal for that splashy monster kills.

If your reference is D3, then yes. However - in general - in any other arpg, spamming one or 2 abilities has to be earned first, through various systems. That is the depth I’m talking about, the very non-existent systems.
And yes, I do agree the game is very dumbed down overall with only artificial difficulty which makes the game not only boring, but frustrating as well.
The Lilith fight was the one attempt in the right direction, but it was executed poorly.

No need to do Diablo 5, -6, -7 any more. They come worse and worse every the time.
The legend of Diablo is gone for ever. Blizz don’t have spirit to do it anymore.

Regardless if they do, I’ve seen enough to know Diablo ended for me. In all honesty I wish I hadn’t even tried the last 3 games of the series.

So what am i doing in PoE right now? Building a town, sending ships, spending tens of hour on trading, switching atlas trees to change strategies, crafting items using meta mods… The key is to design the game so that killing monsters is only a tool to achieve much more complex goals and strategies.

But it looks like you are a perfect consumer of Blizzard’s products.

There’s no point in making Diablo 5. They can just fix Diablo 4. But not these developers.

It’s what they do. Make a bad game based on famous franchise, milk it for all it’s worth, drop it and start making another game with a promise of improvement.

dont count on it . if it fails which i dont think it has .it will get same treatment as starcraft 3 which you know has not released .

never had a lot of love for cosmetic’s will never spend time/real money on it so if Blizz decide to make an expansion on that i will not buy it.
