I'd like to talk on builds

My current build is:
Shadow step - Break cc, buff dmg and mobility.
Solid skill but low on damage.
Heartseeker - Buff crit, crit dmg and attack speed, also trigger Close quarters. And gives me a weak ranged attack.
Blade shift - Buff speed, cc reduction and bumps my resistances.
Flurry - Buff attack speed with combo and also gives a small aoe.
Twisting blades - Main attack, damage. Gives speed too on combo.
Invigorating strike - Energy regen and vulnerable debuff. Looks cool.

Now this build is obviously… bad. Got three basics and I know I should Puncture like we all should but I just want to be different. It’s not actually that though, I want it to look cool and I want to push my buttons. I’m constantly pushing something with this so that’s fun. But what I’m doing is hitting buttons that make my other buttons better, which is a concept I hate. I want each skill to do something on its own.

My stats is:
25k attack power
9.2k armor
20k life
55% resistance up to 70% buffed.

Now I can barely dent Duriel, takes me like 5 minutes to solo that. And Lilith… like seriously… I can’t do that. No way I’m hurting her. It would be possible if she didn’t one shot me from every mistake, and I do a lot of those I promise… So like for me to kill Lilith I’d have to practice the fight every day for a month perhaps before I got it down perfect and I will not do that. I’m sure I’d make it eventually if I really tried. Or would I?..

Now I am aware there’s better builds but I want to make my own build and fool around, that’s a very enjoyable aspect of the game and of games generally I think. And I want to select the things I find cool.
I got some gear at least so why am I performing this poorly? I can play helltides at a fair enough pace and I’m sure I can snail t100 if I buff up my armor and respec into resistances, maybe drop Blade shift for poison or something, but wtf am I this cripple for?

I dont know what you actually want. Because you state that you are aware that there are better builds, but that you want to use your own.

But regardless of build. You need to focus on items for each specific task.

I have completed both echo and 100 nmds with my rogue this season and i switch out both skills and items for each activity.

With the right items and skill, you can 1 shot both duriel and echo with your rogue

Yes, only the one. I see that’s your goal and I commend you for achieving it.
No, you can’t advise me; thank you though.

builds shouldn’t exist. if you have no builds then you have no meta. just make the game give you random gear with better stats and you can use any combination of abilities. make the focus on only the gear and none on the abilities used. also remove 60% of the stats in the game because they are pointless trash used as padding and nothing more.

Also hate on the pad stats. Armor protects you and weapons harm, that’s what their purpose is. Somewhere along the line it became something else.

And yes, the damn stats are worthless beyond them being just wrong.
Why are there four stats when only one of them is good for your build? To have a derived stat: All stat, which is one quarter the primary stat.
In actuality, the only stat that matters is the primary one. OR the only stat that matters is damage. There’s no other stats but damage and life. Reduction is life, dodge too.

I agree we should be able to use anything we like and beat the game like that. We should always have comparable performance. But that’s not how this goes. Somehow hota does not ten times but a thousand times as much as other builds. I guess it’s some kind of an American thing or something, seeing those billions float.
But whatever. Only matter with that to me is that it’s impossible to play with a hota barb, completely unfun. Too bad for them. Or good. Idk, doesn’t matter to me really.
What matters is that it’s useless selecting my own build. There’s only one build for each class, or maybe two. Everything other than those particulars is inferior.

I tailored my build and it fits well with what I have. I can make it otherwise and I can take things I know will hurt a lot more but I want to be a little special and think for myself and tinker on my own, because that’s my fun.

I think I agree that they should put all of it on the gear and pretty much normalise the skills. If you do less damage with something because you have more protection we should be talking about 20% or something, not 100000%.

Hoping they bring the bacon with season 4. Windforce being like the worst bow. How’s that a good idea? Whatever though… just whatever. I bet they’ll make it worse. Because they’re not changing their philosophy making this.

they haven’t brought the bacon during the entire games life. why cope and hope they do it at season 4 when we all know its another set of abilities on another trinket or something to attach to gear. the world will only get a cosmetic change for the seasons which to me is why the season system is pointless in every game ever and should be discontinued. just make expansions that are separate and doesn’t give better shit than the base game so it all stays relevant but gives options on locations and enemy variety so you don’t have to deal with stacked exploding enemies or off screen archers killing you in one shot which was a completely stupid idea and the people at the company that thought it was a good idea should be smacked upside the head to knock some sense into them.

I’m coping because the game’s smooth. They got the tech down.
But no, I don’t think things will change either; even though it has to.

The world and multiplayer should be focused and dealt with, that’s the most important thing for me. I want to be out there seeing people. If I don’t see that, I rather turn off the game.

I’m so perplexed how they made the Duriel loop. Like I think that helltides is alright but then I condense the materials I gathered at Duriel which is the most boring thing. To deal with that bore we employ barbarians to one shot. So that’s the solution they brought to a gameplay no one wants: That we don’t have to do it, we don’t have to play the boss.

Same with legions, we all just run along clicking something lazily. No point doing more. And with world bosses. The solution is to let people skip it and just give loot for showing up. Trash loot though but you get blood, which is also trash. But then u can go do Zir which drops trash. And only specific trash. You need go to ice beast for other specific trash. Usually there’s a single item of interest and all other things are worthless but I keep saving it up anyway. The only real items are those in the maggot cave.
Where’s the magic of the world? Why can’t I go around killing stuff and get some cool stuff? At least eventually? Nah, it has to be one in a billion that I do. Which isn’t even exaggerating.
Sure I found some uniques around the world. Was some of the best moments, actually. Got a few things I wanted. But nothing super of course, just alright stuff.

There’s many issues. And I think that builds is the biggest one. I want to make a good build from the skills made available to me. It’s all set up so that I have to always have a basic skill and a core skill. After that it gets a bit more relaxed. But I should be able to use smoke grenade and concealment. Who uses smoke grenade? It wouldn’t be an issue if I did good damage base and I improved on that with my gear. But taking something like that is some kind of roleplay thing then? Like I pretend I need to blind them? It’s not even a tactical cover, it just blinds things within the smoke grenade area and doesn’t block view for archers behind it.

Honestly… I don’t know how to make this right. What would they do? How are they going to let us build more freely? And how will they deal with items? It’ll be years before they sort this mess

I think the foundation of the game is solid. The tech is good. But the gameplay design decisions are bad. One build to rule them all? Only one good item for each slot? Stats that doesn’t do anything for your character? Willpower rogue?? heal them to death. Those stats aren’t real because they should describe the character but they don’t.
If I made a Willpower rogue it should be a healer beast. If I made an int rogue it should be a crit focused build. Strength should be the brawling rogue. Dex should be the dodger. Like it should be different styles of play, that’s what those stats should do. They never did that in any Diablo but prior to D3 it wasn’t so bad. With D3 they started with the main stat. So why are they in D4? Same reason as in D3: To inflate the number of failed items. Worst reason to have stats, isn’t it.

tell me whats the real difference between this game and dynasty warriors. you kill hoards of enemies, you get gear that is mostly useless and rarely usable. there are elites on the map as well as world bosses. the only differences i see is a couple of simple game systems like the hell tides and the pointless boring tree and ability variety. which dynasty warriors ability variety comes from all the different characters not just picking them on a class tree. you don’t have to worry about a meta since all characters can complete the game so long as you level them up and get some gear. dynasty warriors has been mostly the same for the last 10yrs. also why do you have to see other players or you will quit. i played wow and seeing other players just annoyed me because i know they will never interact with me more than instanced based content. i don’t have friends due to my job occupation making me move every 2-3 yrs around the world so i don’t have that to fall back on.

never played dynasty warriors.

empty otherwise. lack of purpose is more obvious then.

yea well… I know. no purpose. but a live world is better than a dead one. true in dark souls, the shades you see actually makes a difference; it reminds people someone else is there doing the same thing and it lends some meaning. And there you can summon phantoms to help and you can be invaded by phantoms who attacks. Dark souls has more purpose as a game. It’s more complete than this. Yet seeing someone around does help the senselessness.

I’m not a friender either, I’m a loner. But I need people anyway. Game worlds are small and if they’re empty I can’t get into the world, I don’t see the meaning for myself. The time when I could is past.

At some point the developers of D4 will have to own up to that D4 is made as a multiplayer game or this will never work. D3 isn’t made as a multiplayer game, rather it’s like the previous games that has a multiplayer option in a singleplayer game. This one’s different, here we have needed interaction in legions and world bosses.

they only added multiplayer for the cosmetics. if the game was single player they wouldn’t really bother. games like assassins creed showed us that you can shove a cash system in a single player game it doesn’t mean that tons of people will buy it. i understand why they make the games the way they do i just hate they do it.

yea well… i think that’s part of it too but they will still have to own up to it. their reason doesn’t really matter in that context.

i have to agree with you on that one.
