Missing install button

I’ve been happily playing Diablo 4 since release on my PC without issues. Today, when I came to launch the game, the Play button was greyed out, and a tooltip appeared below the cursor with a message along the lines of “Unable to play at this time”. Other games, such as World of Warcraft, were unaffected.

I tried various things:

  • Signing out of battle.net and signing back in
  • Exiting battle.net
  • Restarting my PC
  • Deleting the battle.net cache folders in %programdata%
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling battle.net
  • Uninstalling Diablo 4

After uninstalling the game, I’d expected to just be able to reinstall, but where the button to Install should usually be, there is just a large space. Subsequent reinstalls of the battle.net client have not resolved the issue.

UPDATE
I’ve managed to get Diablo IV to reveal the Install button, by logging in to the game on my son’s Xbox. It’s like Battle.net didn’t recognise that I owned the game already, until I’d logged in to the game on his console. At that point, the Install button appeared the next time I opened Battle.net on my PC.
