So I played D2 and D2R much more than I should ever had. I grinded those runes, got the Griffon’s Eye, even a Death Web and a pair of Shadow Dancers. I know about the RNG and how hard it is to get very rare items. I grinded Hell Torches and waited patiently for Annihilus.
I’m fine with the grind, I enjoy it, it gives a motivation: “If all these other guys are able to get these items, why not me?” type of thing.
But now in D4, what do I have to grind for? My Glyphs are lvl 15, leveling up is only making the game harder. I got the gear I can safely say will be my final gear since the limit is ipower level 820.
I KNOW I will never get an Harlequin Crest, a Starless ring or an Andariel Visage. Probabilities show that I won’t. It’s not a matter of time, basically nobody else have these items, so no, I’m not going to try to fool myself, I know I won’t get them.
“Oh but the game just released, you’ll see more people getting them over time” I hear you say. There’s been a combined millions of hours played already, much more than D2, and yet these items are much rarer than Tyrael’s Might, so no, you won’t get these items, and neither will I.
What’s left? Trying to get some challenges done like Uber Lilith for some title that nobody reads? New Season is starting soon anyway and I’ll have to redo everything, so what’s the point?
Am I missing something? How come D2 & D3 endgame was more interesting than D4… I’m really confused.

You seem to be motivated by Item Pixels for your grind … I can understand the end-game issue you experience. As an alternative (assuming you do very little not content driven RP) I have agreed with my GF that she gives me a pleasurable activity when I finish a level … now my levels are flying bye and I am on my 3rd char already … worked me and the GF
… Might be more of a problem if you only do solo

Hahahah, oh man, that’s a good one! I wish the wifey were as receptive as your gf… I doubt that suggestion would be received the same way unfortunately…
Yep. Agree. D2 and R has a better item system than this game. It is what it is. Items here are soulless. There is no trading and no currency. I don’t see how they alway say „it’s so much more like d2“ because this game has nothing, absolutely nothing of d2. Do I enjoy it? Yes. But it has got nothing to do with d2.

Not gonna lie, that had me chuckling.
But bold of you to assume people have a relationship with someone!
Progression is terrible in Diablo 4.
We should be able to farm the campaign bosses with added difficulty or make uber versions for all of them, and they should drop BIS uniques and not random gear, that keeps players entertained and looking for something to farm and play.
Now I just have all for my character build and CBA to farm again with the shitty random drops: how the hell a nm dungeon lvl 40 has the same chance of dropping something decent as an easy helltide or whatever?
Make farming very difficult bosses rewarding and challenging!!! End game is dead

Just curious, how is your uber lilith progress doing?
unfortunately , this games works like that.
developers say you that ( 6 of 100 items ) are extremely rare to drop… and, for rare to drop they means ( impossible ). for developers this is the end game. they spent months and years to overengineered codes and % to meet this difficult… one example is how many animation frames have some scheletons… i think 3
All other activity , quests, dungeons, modes, seasons… all this things are just a mere way to force you to play the game as long as possible because a game like this ( have to last )… years.
honestly i’m very surprised that diablo iv isn’t a subscription based game, really. really strange. the cow must be milked.
Diablo IV and Diablo III is not Diablo or an ARPG anymore. it’s a “seasonal service”.
if you want a game that works like ( i run a mission or questo to have that item )…
you have to install DOSBOX and play the original diablo 1 or 2.
Man, want a real game ?.. play retrogames, it’s the only way.

I agree with what you are saying. There is nothing to do or grind after you finish the campaign andgo over lvl 70. I stop geting gear upgrades and the entire show imedietly goes downhill from there
You already played through the endgame, so move on.
D2 was designed by a very talented team while this one seems to have been written and coded by 20 yr old Computer Science graduates. Have skills but no ideas and no gaming experience it would seem…

I agree, but even this has its limit: what’s the point of grinding to get some cosmetics if you’re bored playing the game anyway? Those cosmetics won’t serve any purpose and people, including myself, will skip seasons entirely.
There’s a limit as how many times “it’s fun” to start a brand new character. I did a few D3 Seasons for the stash tabs, but quickly gave up. It was boring.

It is boring, give me goals and difficult and varied content that I need to farm to get BIS items, not easy and repetitive helltides and nm dungeons.
Game is broken and more than 90% of player base will leave.
Same thing with D3 which was dead in year of release(2012) and it took at least 3-4 years to fix! I hope the patch and upgrade/expand D4 alot sooner.
I am 93lvl and still have stuff to do. Still got some goals ahead of me. Still having a lot of fun.
In terms of grinding D4 is no different to D3/D2 except one thing - there is a bit of diversity in D4. There is literally none in D3/D2. In D3 it’s just GRs which are basically the same (yeah sure mob types and rift layouts changes but that doesn’t really give me a “different” feeling) and in D2 it’s just < insert best place for your build > runs over and over again. Whereas in D4 I can run the same NM dungeon 5 times in a row and it can feel slightly different every time.
The op completely contradicted themselves there, they got loads of super rare items in D2 and are fine with the grind, but then continue on to say they cannot be bothered with the D4 super rare grind, so which is it ?.
For me D4 is way better in HC, because you keep the passive progression from Lilith statues and renown (i do wish there was more passive progression think more rogue-lite).
HC makes it about the journey compared to the very thin endgame.
Still once i hit lvl70-75 i just reroll, the end game is really boring there is nothing there more then pushing yourself until you get oneshotted. Also the gimmicks in the nightmare dungeons is made by someone that do not play a lot
because they are very unfun.
Call me crazy but i actually prefer D3 greater rifts, great rewards and very grindfriendly. Still wish they would come up with something better but i guess it’s hard.
That’s because I knew I could get that super rare item eventually. Because I see the drop rates, I know how to target farm and put the odds in my favour (aka MF). And eventually, yes, I got what I wanted.
However, getting Harlequin Crest today? Impossible. As simple as that. You’re not going to get it, neither will I, neither anyone on that forum. That’s the difference.
Yeah, sounds like a matter of taste here, because D2 maps are also partly random, D3 as well + various mobs. Sure D4 looks way better and has that novelty aspect. But how long do you think this will last in the current state?
Want to be demoralized?
Watch Alkeizers Lilith kill
I’m lvl 95 - fully kitted, as ww and hit like a wet noodle compared to if I went Hota
Endgame is a unbalanced garbo mess, and it shows…
