Organized feedback

I posted these organized feedback topics after release and during S1 and they seemed to be received well. Skipped S2 but played a bit of S3. Here’s my updated list.

These are my personal opinions; it’s fine if you don’t agree.

Biggest issues:

  • There is no endgame to speak of. Farming Duriel and Malphas (in the case of S3) is incredibly boring, even worse for a solo player. Running NMD gets really old, really fast due to the next 3 points.
  • This game desperately needs a loot filter.
  • Aspect system needs a rework. Everything should be ‘uploadable’ to the Codex.
  • Most NMD dungeons go on for far too long, due to multiple ‘open the door’ objectives and backtracking through endless empty hallways. This is why people do Vaults in S3.
  • The game heavily discourages experimenting with builds due to the inability to save gear/skill/paragon loadouts.
  • Consumables tab is always full. Obvious fixes: separate Sigil tab & make boss summoning mats go into materials (like gems do now).
  • Please let me zoom out the minimap more.

Season 4:

  • Please delay this season. Even if you think it’s ready, it’s not. S3 has proven that it is not even remotely ready. Let some genre vets test it, polish it, polish it some more, PTR it again, polish it more, then release it. Maybe.

Season 3:

  • TLDR: Stopped playing after 2 weeks. No endgame to speak of. Got sick of dealing with loot without a loot filter. Got sick of the convoluted aspect system. Got sick of farming Duriel and Malphas mats.
  • Vaults at season release were obviously horrible. Very understandable that people state this clearly wasn’t playtested by genre vets at all.
  • Vaults after the 1.03a patch are superior to NMD, except for the trap room at the end. The dungeon before that, and the loot explosion after are very satisfying. Nice mob density, no backtracking, doesn’t go on forever, no “go save 6 prisoners” or “go find 2 keystones at opposite ends of the dungeon” objectives. The trap room just sucks though, and failing the run because of deaths in there is very frustrating.
  • ‘Vizier constuct’ mobs are overtuned. The regular little white non-elite version is probably the most deadly mob in the game right now. On higher levels this mob type is incredibly deadly. With the ‘+25% attack speed’ NMD affix they’re clearly broken.
  • ‘Guardsman constuct’ mobs feel slightly overtuned as well. Can one-shot you before you even see them on higher difficulties.
  • Make the world map act consistently while in the Gatehall. Tab should open world map if a NMD was started. On PC the 2 shortcut to get to the world map should be added.
  • Why is poison damage STILL so wildly overtuned? Even with max poison resist most poison damage is incredibly deadly.
  • Vault sigils with Stormbane’s Wrath, Death Pulse, Drifting Shade, Lightning Storm get deleted as they make the trap room even more wildly annoying. Vault sigils with +25% mob attack speed get deleted because of the next issue with Vizier Constructs.
  • On higher levels the Son of Malphas rare spawn in Vaults has such an absurd amount of HP it’s not worth killing him anymore.
  • The pet stones unlocks/levels should probably be accountwide. Game is alt-unfriendly enough as it is.
  • Farmed Echo of Malphas for a bit. Droprate obviously too low because god forbid we get to play with content that’s only available for 2-3 months. Got sick of farming the igneous cores so stopped farming him.
  • Why do I have to create 2 new characters just to unlock the Lunar event cosmetics? So petty.
  • So once a year seasonal events now come with their own overpriced shop items; how very Activision’y of you.

Season 2:

  • Did not play as S1 sucked.

Season 1:

  • Stopped playing S1 after a couple of days as it was annoying and boring.

General:

  • Loot gets very boring after lvl 75ish. Your build has essentially been done for ages by then and all you need is extremely specific rolls, but they’ll only have slightly higher numbers. There’s only a handful of interesting aspects. The rest is either useless, or you have to have it because it makes numbers biggerer. Having to deal with all the rares and aspects is what generally makes me stop playing. It just gets tedious and annoying.
  • D4 is alt-unfriendly due to the limited stash space in general, and the convoluted aspect-system in particular.
  • The aspect system is frustrating and stashspace-consuming even when you play a single character.
  • There are far too many secondary stats. Combine a couple, remove the useless ones, and just do another pass in general.
  • Obols feel useless in the endgame as the drops from gambling as usually very low item level.
  • At endgame the loot from Whispers is 100% useless, apart from the mats for Vershan.
  • Most dungeons feel like they are bulk generated by AI. No originality or personality.
  • Uber Lilith feels wildly out of place with her endless one-shot mechanics. Yes you can learn it but none of the other bosses have this issue.
  • Disabling the crossplay features improves client performance dramatically on PC, don’t know about console. Game is a lot smoother with it off.
  • There’s far too many mobs that explode on death.
  • Random events need to be way faster and intense.
  • I know it’s not going to change but the shop prices are beyond obnoxious. I’d buy way more stuff if the prices were 20-30% of what they are now.

Helltides:

  • Them being always available is great.
  • Chests being on the map so we don’t need a 3rd party site is great.
  • Even though they’re not as empty as they were on release and during S1 they’re still very boring. They need way more events on shorter cooldowns. Easily the most boring activity in game right now. A easy bandaid-fix for now would be to lower the summon reqs for Grigoire.
  • At endgame the loot from Helltides is 100% useless, apart from the mats for Greg.

Nightmare Dungeons:

  • Poison damage are overtuned, even with max poison resistance.
  • ‘Slay all mobs’ and ‘Collect animus’ are boring and take far too long.
  • I want to play this ACTION rpg, not run around and free 5-7 prisons.
  • If I come across the second ‘key’ item before I come to the pedestals, let me pick that up as well instead of forcing my to backtrack twice.
  • ‘Stormbane’s Wrath’ gets deleted instantly.
  • ‘Death pulse’ gets deleted instantly.
  • ‘Lightning Storm’ constantly has you running back and standing there waiting, completely killing the flow of the run.
  • Maybe move all the loot to the end? That would add a better flow to the run and there will be a satisfying loot explosion at the end.

UI:

  • In D3 I can see at a glance if an item is an upgrade. In D4 the tooltip comparison is way worse. Consistent sorting/categorizing and a proper hierarchy would help a lot.
  • Please start sorting stuff like Glyphs consistently. Equipped → level → alphabetically → rarity. Not whatever you’ve got going on now. The S3 pet stones have the same issue.
  • Let me hide the keybind indicators on PC.
  • Let me scale the UI on PC.
  • Do another pass on the PC UI & UX, it’s currently clearly just designed for console.
  • It’s difficult to see the difference between rare, sacred, ancestral, and even unique items in your inventory at a glance. Make the difference more pronounced.
  • Change the color selection in the transmog UI so you don’t have to scroll.
  • What’s the point of a separate Quest inventory tab? Do we ever even need to use something from it? Make it invisible.
  • Add a 24 hour clock.
  • Add a UI element to indicate a Sigil is in a Whisper dungeon.
  • Let me load a saved transmog even when the weapon item type doesn’t match. Just load the rest without the weapon.
  • Action wheel customization should probably be accountwide instead of per character.

QoL:

  • A loot filter is desperately needed. ‘Never show blue items’, ‘Only show items over itemlevel 900’, ‘Highlight items with skill x’, etc.
  • Please reconsider the map overlay. Constantly hitting tab and/or watching a red line on the minimap just to see where I’m going is annoying and way more
    immersion breaking. Zooming out the minimap more would help a lot.
  • Please make the Aspect inventory tab the same size as the normal inventory.
  • Please let me complete multiple Whispers before I have to go turn it in at the Tree. Feels like I have to go all the way over there every 5 mins.
  • Let me teleport to a party member directly please.
  • Let me pick a default town portal city please.
  • Default town portal city and a separate keybind for the Tree would be perfection.
  • The ‘Skip campaign’ option should unlock all waypoints.
  • Extracting an aspect should unlock the transmog as well.
  • Let me trade duplicate mount drops, or at least give them a somewhat significant vendor value.
  • Boots should always run with movement speed, or default movement speed should be increased. Switching out boots that have run speed for boots without feels so bad.
  • The Occultist in Geo Kul is in a really annoying spot. It’s faster to go to another city.

Mount:

  • It feels sooooooo slow in town.
  • The increased cooldown when you get knocked off the horse is just obnoxious.

Lots of great feedback and, you would think that if the devs actually spent any real amount of time playing their own game, they would already have reached many of your conclusions.
