I kind of feel party size max of 4 is too small.
D4 wants to go more MMO in feel but then limits party size at 4. This feels extremely small especially when compared to the max of 8 from D2/D2R.
I think making the party size max 6 is a good middle ground.
Thoughts?

Sure if you want to wait another 2 years for the game.
The engine, infrastructure, and the balance with scaling is built around 4 max players, that will all need to be redone.
Wait, you said “balance with scaling” ? Where was it? I didn’t notice
I think 6 is too many 4 is a good number so as not to face roll content.
You would be forgiven for not noticing as there has been no end game activities we’ve been able to play in parties of 4, however you can look to every other arpg out there for examples needed. Area size, density, difficulty, back-end networking, loot systems they are all built from the ground up with the maximum party size in the formula from day 1, then downscaled for solo play.
There are other games I play that have had to completely rebuild the game from scratch because they have decided to increase player party size as when they first built the game absolutely everything revolved around a max limit of party size. This should not be a difficult concept to grasp.
I played in the recent D4 Server Slam and was very disappointed that the max players in a group is 4. I’ve enjoy single-player and multi-player Blizzard games. Diablo IV has five classes and the current limit of 4 doesn’t even support one of each. My 24-player raiding experience tells me that it is possible to have that many in a group; Blizzard just needs to work on implementing a more reasonable limit of 8 or 12. 12 player groups would have supported having an more organized and cohesive group during the recent D4 Server Slam 15-minute-long Ashava spawnings. Please increase the player group limit to at least 5, or better yet - 12.
Are you a programmer or are you speculating.
Because from a gamer point of view, why is it so hard to change the party from 4 to 6 ?
Does the world boss scale on the amount of players ? does it scale on the level of the players taking part ? I don’t think it does.
So surly alter the code which you have already made x2 party members in dungeons ?
It’s 2023 not 1990.
Its probably not, but its easier to balance the dungeon(s) around 4 players rather than six. Same with PvP.
I don’t code games, I do code other applications what follow similar concepts as well as follow game development of other games that I play elsewhere where they make the development process public and release deep dive documentation. The year does not matter, you would probably be surprised how little has changed, the infrastructure has got faster and more powerful but the core of them is near enough unchanged.
You are correct, the code can be altered to +2 players, that was never in question, but it would likely involve recoding large parts of the codebase from scratch, and I have seen developers in the past opt to completely rebuild the game as it is the path of least resistance to prevent endless bugs and spaghetti jenga code as a result.
Personally I’m not bothered, i think 4 party members is cute.
Say they bring out a Holy paladin, Dark pally, Spear chucker, … etc
Will that gate keep players out of a party.
Maybe cross that bridge when the time comes.
In the Field of Hatred there be 3 other players & you ?
