So, I’ve had a chance to play on the Barb and Sorc since the patch dropped last night.
Other than bumping my max PIT level by 5-10 levels, really nothing has changed.
I’m not running a meta build on either character but was hoping the sorc changes would be more impactful, ice armour for instance.
On my other character, I swapped from a DS Barb to WW to try out the new changes. The 15% damage increase to WW itself is barely noticeable, at PIT 70, its doing almost nothing. The real change for WW is purely using it as a delivery mechanism for Dust Devils, and Holy Bolt/Tyraels might. Without all these combined, WW is still trash.
As it should be.
So the gist of it was:
- Barb, which wasn’t the class most in need of buffs got a tremendous way of facing even higher content thanks to all the background that provides the new Flay (buffed to the extreme, the only thing they left was adding a ridiculously OP aspect empowering it and all bleed damage and synergies) and also enabling Rupture as well by slightly adjusting two passives.
- Necro, who wasn’t exactly in dire need of more oomph either, got excuses to have minionless builds with more confidence by having EVERY sacrifice of the Book Of The Dead buffed, and the Sacrifice buffing aspect as well, and if that wasn’t enough, a glyph here and there empowering particulary Shadow dmg went up. Like WTH?
- Sorc and Druid were kept into oblivion as usual, if anything they tried to make satellite boulder build possible because it was glitched, how strange.
- Rogue was timidly helped in the melee aspects but I don’t think they’ve fixed and put at the same baseline the meta ranged builds and the melee ones, and a year ago was the other way around IIRC.
So… How do you expect to find anything remarkable by a tiny adjustment to, of all defenses in the game, A BARRIER based one! (I guess you don’t know, but when you have a barrier, the incoming damage calculation makes it so it gets amplified and you end up getting more damage than without shields¹, just the other way around than with Fortify. How curious?)
Also, WW in D4 is still a bad joke to this day. In every aspect. It’s a long way ahead until we get some meaningful spin-to-win greatness from this skill and its enablers (aspects, uniques, etc, take for instance Gohr’s Gloves of Magnificent Sh-t or however they’re named)
[1]Even if you don’t see it chipping at your health, it somehow makes a calculation that renders to 0 for the amount of barrier which would decrease your health, and other that renders to the corresponding amount of dmg. taken and which will make your barrier go down by the, allegedly, the appropiate amount. Guess what, it’s bugged in some cases.
