Persistent crashes

Loading times are incredibly slow or at a crawl. I can consistently get to the character select - creation screen but as soon as I try to load the game I get the following error:

“Diablo 4 was unable to retrieve necessary data”

Haven’t seen this topic much so wondering if it’s an issue on my end? I’ve cleared Battle.net cache & my connection is stable. The beta worked flawlessly in comparison.

I’m having the same issue. I can’t even pass the first loadscreen to character creation.

The error name is “Data Retrieval Error” and says “Diablo VI was unable to retrieve necessary data. Please check your network connection.”

My connection is really great and stable and I also played the betas with no issues. I’ve tried all steps you said and also uninstalled and installed the game again but nothing seems to work.

I am having the same problem now on the 2nd day, Diablo IV was unable to retrieve necessary data. Please check your network connection.”

I was playing fine yesterday, but broken today.

hi mate did you have any luck with it or any solution?

No mate, nothing I tried seems to work, still no response from blizzard.

I’ve tried deleting the Blizzard cache folder, reinstalling the game and battle.net app from 0, changing my network connection to a mobile 4G through my cell phone and I also tried thescan and repair option from the battle.net app. Changing the DNS also did not work. I’m running out of ideas of what I could do to fix this… It’s so frustrating that after 3 days and we still have nothing from blizzard about this.

Same issue. Diablo 4 deluxe edition. Over 60 crashes during this weekend while playing.

“Data Retrieval Error
Diablo IV was unable to retrieve necessary data. Please check your network connection”

My connection is fine, everything else on my pc works, including Diablo 2R, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 and every other game with online functionality that I own.

Since Diablo 4 reached world wide official release time, the game now crashes before I get to the character selection menu. Do something!

Update on my side:

My Diablo IV is installed on the D: disk which is not the main disk in my PC. I solved the issue when I moved the Diablo IV folder to the folder Program Files (x86).

I kinda discovered what was happening when I tried to re-install the battle.net app on the D: disk and it was not opening at all pointing some connection issues.

I don’t know why it is important to have the game folder inside the “Program Files (x86)” but it solved the problem here and until now I’ve had no more connection related issues.

The game does not need to be installed on C:\ or in the Program Files folder to function. The only requirement is, that it is installed on an internal SSD.

Any drives that are not fast enough, may lead to slow loading times or being unable to enter the game at all.

game wont launch still having “data retrieval error” diablo 4 was unable to retrieve necessary data… when i switch to mobile data hotspot. i was able to play few days ago. mobile data is at 100mbs download speed and is stable. tried disabling firewall, with/without vpn, reinstalling battlenet and diablo 4 but nothing. please help.
