Problem with damage reduction

Blizzard, we need to talk. Damage reduction doesn’t work well.

In games, to tank damage you raise defenses, life, reduce damage, block damage, etc… This does not work here, in D4.

I play with Necromancer with 30k health. My reduction damage is:

Basic skill, Reap : +15%
Curse skill, Decrepify: +23,8%
Pasive skill, Death’s embrace: +12%
Aspect: when use basic skill, +20% reduction for 7 seconds: +20%
Aspect in amulet, ur minions and u have +38% reduction damage: +38%
Legendary node: +15% reduction with 2 corpse close: +15%
Fortify: +10%
Armour: complet +85%

Totally: +208,8% damage reduction with 30K life. I think is very good defensive player. Very, very, very good.

So, why do they kill me in one hit at level 60 pit?

Resume: only lvl 60 pit, a middle lvl. Very high life, 30k. Very, very, very, very, very BIG damage reduction. Why insta kill?


It’s not a question, it’s rhetoric, it’s maieutics. Clearly, damage reduction and one-hit death are things that Blizzard needs to fix.
If you want to make a character that in a simple level 60 of the pit does not die from a blow, you should be able to do so. Even at pit level 120.

I guess because vs shadow crappy thingies your defences dont matter at all… its not the boss that kills you normaly since most theyre attacks are mitigated by your damage reduction / defences… but not the shadow thingie… and that for me its ultra silly af too… at some stage makes me feel why i even bother with hp and damage reduction i should just aim for dps… and try make the fight as fast as possible to not get many shadow crap one shot bs’s… but yeh… :wink:

Attack Power and Armor needs to be removed. Much more easier to create new items and balance monster damage. And Class damage too.

My druid is capped at all elements for 70% resistances, my physical armor capped above 9230, and physical damage reductions with as crazy as 100% from FORTIFIED, paragon tree, unique chestplate adding additional 15.8% to Fortified, Defense skills, and 70% less dmg shout, 20% from aspect, 30% from werewolf aspect…. im well over 100% physical dmg reduction, but I get one shotted by lvl 140+ (the pit).

I removed all my physical dmg reductions and kept fortification, and focused on BARRIER SPAM. I am no longer killable when button mashing.

Physical dmg reduction is either capped at 70% or its falsely calculated with poor math skills.

I truly believe physical dmg reduction is capped specifically at 9230 armor as stated in the character sheet. Physical damage reduction is ignored when you reached the armor cap. So if you have 6k armor and ran 100% of physical dmg reductions, it acts as the armor cap. Damage Reduction behaves as armor.
