Questions about itemization

Hey

I’m about to play D4 thoroughly for the first time, once Season 4 comes out that is, unfortunately I’m still confused about items classifications, specifically among legendary items.

I understand there are several kinds of legendaries, inluding Uniques, Ancestral etc… Though I’m not sure which ones are more powerful than the others and where can you expect to have them drop.

If anyone could please clarify these questions, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

There are 6 rarities of gear in total.

  • Common (white)
  • Magic (blue)
  • Rare (yellow)
  • Legendary (orange)
  • Unique (beige/brown)
  • Uber Unique (beige/brown)

Gear can drop at three tiers of power, Normal, Sacred and Ancestral. These power tiers are a curve that follows your leveling process;

  • Normal gear drops from World tier 1-2 (Level 1-50)
  • Sacred gear drops from World tier 3 (Level 50-70)
  • Ancestral gear drops from World tier 4 (Level 70-100)
Note: Uniques only drop on World tier 3-4, and Uber Uniques only on World tier 4

The World tier levels are suggestions based on monster levels, not restrictions based on player levels. You can switch to a higher world tier sooner than the recommended level if you wish to, assuming you can beat the capstone dungeons that unlock those world tiers. However, Sacred and Ancestral gear does have minimum level requirements.

Starting in season 4, the first three gear rarities, white, blue and yellow can mostly be ignored, except in the very early stages of leveling.

Legendaries, aka orange gear will be your primary gear scource, as they can have legendary aspects extracted/imprinted, and thus make up the majority of your build.

Depending on your build certain Uniques can benefit your build, Most builds use 1-3 uniques, but some dont use any at all. With the upcoming itemization rework, it is generally expected that Uniques will loose their value in the endgame, due to masterworking, a new system that only works on orange legendaries, and not on uniques.

The final tier, Uber uniques are super rare chase items, that takes a lot of time, effort and luck to get your hands on. They are not mandatory build items and are ment as a rare bonus for the luckey few.

All gear rarities can drop from most, if not all ingame activities, with the higher rarities dropping more frequently the higher level you are. As uniques can be pretty vital to certain builds, these have increased chances of dropping from Uber bosses, with each Uber boss having a fixed loot table. This means if you need a specific Unique, you can target farm it, by farming the boss that has said Unique on its loot table.
Same goes for Uber Uniques, but at a much lower rate. While Uber uniques are extremely rare drops from most scources, they have a 2% drop chance from the Uber boss Duriel.

If my explaination sounds confusing, don’t worry, it’s pretty straight forward once you see it ingame.
Good luck on your adventures in Season 4.
