If it’s intentional, it’s both designed and implemented incredibly badly. It doesn’t happen if you click anywhere in the chat window, it only happens if you click on the - not even visible at the time - “expand chat” button that’s at the top right corner floating above the actual chat text. It’s a very small part of the screen that, outside of actually using the chat window, appears as if it shouldn’t be interacting with that aspect of the UI at all.
Yes, there are other, better, ways of controlling your character, but this isn’t really a skill issue, it’s a design one. The game provides a default control scheme, and you can expect that most new players unfamiliar with the style of game will use that control scheme. Having some seemingly arbitrary spot in your screen suddenly opening your chat window when they inevitably do so isn’t a great user experience.
i just tried it, and my mouse litteraly goes through the chat if i didn’t press enter before. what are you doing when playing?
edit : just happend, had to try for 5 min
might be a pixel perfect broken thingy, should be patched yep
edit 2 : if you see your chat, press Escape, easy fix for now
The problem is not the chat. The problem is the “chat expand” button.
Try it: – press and hold the " Hold position" button (the SHIFT in default)
– cursor change to sword then move your cursor around that place what you see in video and if you found the problematic place, the cursor change back to default “arrow” style.
Honestly, on here Deviome is the only person I have encountered that has any form of issue with that. I myself haven’t seen a single time this happening for me and also didn’t hear at all from friends playing the game to have this issue.
And I am the guy that tends to lose my mouse out of sight in World of Warcraft most of the time when fighting.
I honestly thought at first it is an intended feature that just doesn’t comply with the way how some people play. I already suggested to not move your mouse to the screen bounds (where the chat usually is located) and also use the “Force Move” keybind to allow you to conveniently move your character without clicking so much and some people still say “this is bad design” or “this should be removed” or “this is a bug” when the actual correct demand would be to say “hey Blizzard, can we have the option to disable opening the chat with a mouse click”?
It is truly astonishing how people rather ask for features to be removed, instead of asking for customization options.
Well, sadly Deviome failed to communicate this specific, important detail right from the start.
And specifically to mention this, I did test it and it isn’t even the button itself, it is a left-over from the UI programming (and in this case it is a left-over feature, but you may call it a bug if you wish).
You can see the specific spot here, also the reason why I recommended to use the “left corner” Layout for the UI. Because it moves the critical interaction spot you guys complain about from the left middle of the screen to the farthest right middle of the screen.

Only on this one Deviome started to mention “some spot” (which is btw extremely vague!)
And to say the least, this is outright offensive and against the CoC of the forum here.
euh lol, i gues you dont know anything about diablo lol, its always have been a pc game so what the hell are you talking about??? are you drunk or something as everyone knows here that diablo always have been a pc game, its not because you dont understand the game that therefor its a consolle game, your logic is lost there!
I disagree with the statement that this is a feature.
If the UI requires you to control your character´s movement and targeting with mouse only and the chat window activates only to remove all control from your character then it´s a flaw, intended or not and should be fixed, or atleast give the option to disable the chat window to be mouse activated. I dont think that is unfair to point that out. For some, but not all it might be a problem and we all want to enjoy our game.
It is literally a “resize chat window” button. That’s a feature on itself.
Also opening the chat doesn’t remove your control over your character that much. You can still move around.
This entire issue is at best a “minor inconvenience”, not a “gamebreaking bug that makes it impossible to play” as some users here tend to make it.
All they need to fix is only the “resize chat” button from being interacted with while the chat is faded. They also need to align the anchor point of that UI element a bit more precise. But other than that, there are no further fixes needed.
Tho I would say having the option to individualize UI elements position like in WoW since DF would be neat.
Cronos is totaly dont understand whats going on here. After 2 days and a video he still dont understand. And now he fixing the game and start giving tipps!
" Agreed, although i can see some situations where it might be considered a big impact but mostly for those playing hardcore. " Dont need to be HC to die because this bug. In this topic the first video 2nd. clip show perfectly this problem.
But sadly the players watching and dont even understand or seeing whats going on in this video. THis is why need talk 2 days about the same problems.
" edit 2 : if you see your chat, press Escape, easy fix for now " And what im doing in the first video 2nd and 3rd clip? Typing the /close command?
This is the another perfect example for the watchin but dont seeing and understanding.
