One of the most fun element in these games for me is trying out different builds, and adapting gameplay to it.
Were you not the ones, Mr. Blizz, who removed talent change cost/restrictions from WoW?
How is this game different?
What you should do instead of respec restrictions is add talent loadouts, like in WoW.
Changing build up from time to time, and based on content you do, is actually fun ![]()
And makes you wanna farm all the items for more builds as well.
Also, if you look at Lost Ark, which you got a LOT of elements from, you can see that respecing is free there also.
This is not World of Warcrack. It’s Diablo and it was made to feel closer to Diablo 1 than any other Diablo.
The cost of respeccing is minimal. Virtually free. If you are having a problem with gold, sell your stuff instead of salvaging it.
Good day.
True, that why in good hack&slash the most fun is to create new characters and experiment different builds. Look like people just don’t want play their game… Leveling a character is the best part of any good hack & slash, not getting to endgame where there is nothing to do. Devs completely forgot that in D3 and it didn’t get D2 life span.
People complaining about the respect cost, but at 25 it cost nothing, sell 2-3 rare items and you’re good, you have plenty of money if you don’t just salvage.
Well if that was the goal it missed the mark completely. All of the systems fundamental systems and rules of the game are borrowed directly from D3. The gold economy, the crafting, the way your power comes from items and items alone.
Go play D3 for a bit, it’s clear you haven’t in a while. You’ll see the similarities all over the place.
imho, the respec cost makes you distribute your points more carefully. Check out PoE where you need a specific expensive item to do that.
Another thing - seasons. You create a brand new character and that’s how you try new and adapt builds to the content - by starting new characters.
Still - I agree that you first need to play around with some skills/mechanics, and charge for respec highly does not let you do so.
So what I’d suggest - increase such payment with char lvl (not skill item lvl), take no gold but some other consumables - specific or just a set of smth. Maybe use some mystic/occultist for that.
So - it should cost, not very costly at low levels where you try out builds, and really costly and valuable at considerable game progress.
If the respec cost is virtually free, just make it free. The worse thing is how the game doesn’t tell you that respeccing costs gold unless you use the reset all talents option, it just takes gold away when you remove a talent point. It’s needlessly restrictive to have it cost gold, especially so given that there is no way to preview your talent builds, you can’t “play” with it.
The talent tree is honestly just bad anyway, it doesn’t offer a lot of freedom (unlike D3 which has total freedom), it doesn’t offer a lot of depth like POE does, and as a talent “tree” it’s much less intuitive than Diablo 2 for planning out your build.
Literally nothing about having the talents be free would be bad for the game, it would encourage players to experiment, there are no drawbacks to free talent changes.
