Rogue abilities - melee is worthless

Just wondering if it’s just me, but I played with all the Rogue abilities and I’ve found all the close combat abilities almost worthless. They look great, but there’s no power behind them and you’re so weak up close. Even though you can Dash around everywhere, it’s almost pointless to use your knives. It would be one thing if you could have some kind of vampiric ability where there’s health regen (putting aside the near-useless Siphoning Strikes), but I feel forced to use ranged combat.

Flurry and Twisting Blades are… okay at best, but they cost so much energy that it’s only useful for a quick hit and jump back on occasion, but then jumping has a ridiculous cooldown time for a rogue. The exception is Shadow Imbuement, which is actually fairly decent.

Or is it just me?

Meanwhile on sorc I feel like I’m constantly arc slashing in melee range because I hate the single target builders.

I play melee rogue, just cleared lvl 25, it’s pretty easy to play but boring as well.
Not sure what you mean by bad, mine kills pretty much everything.

I agree it’s easy to kill anything, but much easier ranged. A couple of the dungeon bosses were difficult with close combat. If you set up the build wrong, you’re pretty much hosed unless you have ranged.

Mmm. Can’t relate.
So far, as a melee rogue, I’m the only character I’ve seen be able to blow up screens - moreso than Sorc or Barb.

You have to keep in mind as well that you’re getting limited skill points during the beta. You can squeeze a few more past level cap, but they’re through challenges.

It WAS rough at first, but once I started getting good aspects, it completely changed. My E/Dash are almost on complete cooldown synchronization with each other so I’m able to get in and out of combat, and like I said, I’m also just completely blowing things up.

The only time killing is slow is when I’m killing single targets and only using my Basics, assuming I’m trying to spare CD’s for the next fight.

Blade Shift 1/5
Twisting Blade 4+1/5
Dash 4+1/5
Concealment 2+1/5
Shadow Imbuement 2+1/5
Deathtrap 1/1

My combo with Imbuement, Dash, Twisting Blade, Dash is my bread and butter.
Concealment and Deathtraps are just augment abilities for me.

I got an insane legendary crossbow that turns twisting blades into the destroyer of worlds, idk if it’s good or bad but it’s certainly powerful

Not my experience with rogue either , cool-down synergy with skills that support each other is key , I know blizzard said no sets at launch however , I got a 2 piece legendary blade dancers set that works in synergy with each . Love it

Yha hit 25 a bit a go and haveing a blast using the melee, i regen quite a bit a life through leech and i feel like i do more damage then my wife on her sorcerers and my brother on his barbarian, idk it is gear or just my build i was have an issue when i was useing shadow clone but droped if for a second infusion
Im also useing conceal for the energy regen. Also dont skip on the passive skills

The problem are the “energy regain” skills. They are all underpowered and useless.
You need forever to kill something with your “ernergy regain” skills. No matter if it is melee or range.
And the powerfull skill thats require energy, need way to much energy. Thats why melee feels so underpowered.
Just try a endless energy cheat (u can find them on the internet) and you will see the diffrence.
Energy system is bad, really bad.

Its like reloading a automatic rifle after every 2 or 3 shots fired.
They have to empower the regain skills or game will be no fun at all.

Found melee rogue very strong …

The ability to keep mobs vulnerable, or slow/chilled. Life back on crit and flurry generating health on ccd or vulnerable enemies .

You can build around evade , and flurry stun.

Opposite experience for me. Loving melee. Having a much easier time killing and staying alive vs ranged. Could of course be pure luck I’ve been having because of legendaries that combo well but heres my poison build.

Combo specialization

2/5 invig strike > Enhanced > Fundamental
-------------------
5/5 flurry - enhanced > Improved
--------------
1/5 shadow step > enhanced > Methodical(key for stun/cc combo, especially against elites)
-----------
2/5 poison trap > enhanced(part of cc combo with the shadowstep stun) > countering

1/5 conceal > enhanced(pop it to let the poison damage sit while I get energy back to spam more flurry
-------------------------
5/5 poison imbue > enhanced > blended
