Severe EU latency issues

Increased latency in Diablo IV – from 20–30 ms to 70–100 ms, with spikes up to 1500 ms

I have been experiencing a serious latency problem in Diablo IV for some time now.

Previously, my in-game latency was usually around 20–30 ms. It is now consistently around 70–80 ms, sometimes reaching 100 ms, and there are also sudden latency spikes of up to 1500 ms.

I am using a wired Ethernet connection, not Wi-Fi.

My internet connection tests normally show:

  • 3 ms ping
  • 922 Mbps download
  • 305 Mbps upload

The internet connection itself appears to be working normally. I am not experiencing any issues with connection speed or general stability.

I also tried disabling cross-play in Diablo IV, but this made no difference.

The problem is specifically with the latency in Diablo IV. With the same internet connection, I previously had around 20–30 ms, while now it is normally 70–80 ms, with occasional extreme spikes of around 1500 ms.

I have also seen several recent reports on the forum regarding high latency, rubberbanding, packet loss, and problems affecting specific Diablo IV server instances. I wonder if Blizzard is planning to do anything about this.

What you are experiencing is a normal for D4 since release. Lat.It is never a constant. Over long time each season improves some aspects and others decline. It’s our lot if we play this game.

I just bought the game today - and after a few instances of severe latency/packet loss (that lasted for something like 5-10 seconds), I was summarily dropped from the server altogether (and the game interestingly enough actually closes if its request retry strategy/mechanism fails).

Does this happen often on EU servers? Because the super annoying thing is that I was in a dungeon (or whatever), and of course was dead (and re-spawned in town) upon reconnect.

Feels like recovery could be handled better, e.g. upon packet loss or heavy latency the game could suspend until polling (or whatever) determines delivery to be reliable again, and either restore state or if not possible just restart from the beginning of the dungeon.

The only time when the game jumps in latency is world boss. Never have I encountered that with anything else.

No delays, no lags, no spikes of any kind.

Same here, played all seasons and this is by far the worst. Ruptures are more or less unplayable for me, rubberbanding all over the place and poof ure dead.

It’s getting ridicilus… Heltides - it’s like playing 1fps. Just created hc warlock, and was waiting to teleport to cain in library - disconnect and closes itself. Second attempt, just alt+f4 after a minute or something hanging on loading screen. How do we supposed to play hc character like this?

Yup, straight dumpster fire. I can be by myself, not casting any spells and I will still rubber band like crazy or simply just move 25% of what was intended. Most of the times my character appears as if running into a well, gaining no distance, but run animation is in full effect. And I do have the splinter which gives “Unhindered” so mobs should not be the cause of this - but one could suspect that even that splinter is bugged to some extent and not functioning as it should.

Of course some people will say they never experienced this, and I’m happy for them, but holy hell this is the reality for many and has been horrendous since S1. You could barely use mounts at first because you would get flung back several screens because you, for some reason, got stuck on a fence(not on your screen) and then back to where that fence might have been. Goooood times.

Diablo VI Let’s go!

I’m in Paris, and the issue is even worse here. They just won’t fix it.
I’m even considering filing a complaint with the authorities.

I am in the UK. Ok we are no longer in the EU but I am personally not having any lag issues even with 5 or 6 warlocks on screen at the same time. If you have seen what a mess 1 warlock makes with blazing scream you will know what I mean. Can I suggest getting a check on your internet connection by a professional ie your isp engineer to rule out a bad connection. At the very least you can send the results to blizzard. There are so few reports compared to the thousands playing at any one time that its either at your end OR blizzard has one bad server that you are all having the bad rng to connect to at login. It may help them to find it.

Diablo 4 does not use separate, hard-locked regional server lists. Instead, it runs on a global server architecture using cloud data centers (managed via Kubernetes) that automatically routes players to the closest available node based on their IP address.
For European players, Blizzard utilizes regional data center nodes located in major hubs such as Frankfurt, London, Paris, and Amsterdam.

perhaps you are near a bad node and as its nearest you always have lag, explaining why others do not.

I’m I, Paris too, and I can’t even use a portal. The lag is so severe that the game doesn’t open my safe. This situation has been going on for the last 3 hours at least, and restarting the PC didn’t help. I tested other lag sensitive applications, and they all work fine.

Seems to be fixed right now with the very last patch.

About 330ms latency

Blizzard, the problem still persists after today’s patch (October 14).

Helltides become almost unplayable when more players are nearby. The game suffers from severe lag and rubberbanding, even when latency is only around 70–80 ms.

Before these issues started, my latency was consistently around 20–30 ms.

Today’s update has not improved the situation at all. Could Blizzard please acknowledge this issue and provide an update on whether a fix is being worked on?
