Diablo lore historically says that demons and angels don’t really “die” per say. Demons return to the burning hells and are reformed (much like we see with Mephisto) after a period of time, retaining their essence, minds and bodies. Angels return to the crystal arch and are reformed as a new angel (with the exception of Tyrael).
The main story implies that Lilith and Inarius are dead, full stop, final. Inarius I can understand going off to be reborn, but Lilith would surely return to the “reforming” phase now? Is there any chance for this to be clarified?
Which part did they really say both are dead permanently though. Perhaps I missed it myself but I don’t recall anyone said anything about that. Just “defeated”
Look up a video called “Diablo 4 - Lilith Final Boss & Ending” on Youtube and go to 11 minutes 13 seconds which takes the post cut scene after defeating Lilith.
Lorath “Now we are truly alone. The creators of sanctuary, angel and demon, mother and father, are dead.”
He doesn’t use the word “defeated” but “dead”, and it could just be a poor choice of words but the tone, context and words used implies both are gone for good.
well… diablo was dead 3 times as well. If you kill something, it’s dead. Highly doubt it really means they are gone for good, don’t demons/angels take time to “revive” as shown with mephisto unless there is some external entity speeding up the process. The humans involve, like Lorath are probably dead by the time the next cycle repeats, hence peace.
Tbh, I wouldn’t even read too deep into it. bLizard had been writing the story in such a way that things are never guranteed and finalized
I would agree with you normally as the lore has always been clear that Angels re-incarnate through the crystal arch as “new angels” and demons will eventually reform in the burning hells, thus the “eternal conflict”, there is no end as neither side ever truly diminishes.
The way the message is conveyed in Diablo 4 though is slightly different, it’s not a “They are defeated for now, but they will return” but rather “They’re dead and we’re alone now to fend off the wolves”.
diablo story and lore was always sparse and unrefined
when you have portals that can take you anywhere in 3 seconds and boats on the sea sailing around in the same world means its more like a cartoon than a place with set rules e.t.c
Sure but those are for gameplay, not lore. I’m just curious if anyone from Blizzard (doubtful but worth a shot) can comment on it. I don’t expect so here but maybe on a lore peace or something.
