Afternoon, for about a day or two, I have been noticing my damage behaving weirdly and I am actually stumped trying to find out WHY.
I play a hota barb and sometimes I hit for 2mil, sometimes for 150k.
Now, this can happen with the same skill use, as in, one mob gets hit for full damage, one for nearly nothing. I have tested this extensively, it’s not any synergy falling off, all modifiers are applied, positioning is the same, but sometimes for some reason the damage just goes to hell.
And for example, for some reason I always hit butcher for like 10% of the regular damage. This wasn’t the case until recently, if I remember correctly.
A mate who also plays a HotA barb observes exactly the same damage drop-offs. What’s going on? It’s incredibly annoying to oneshot an elite pack and then have to use 25 hits on the very next one for no apparent reason whatsoever. What am I missing? HALP!
Hey i didn’t use hota yet, but trying to help you. I took a quick look at some hota guides to see what the build revolves around to get an idea.
The first thing that came to my mind was, were always the same conditioned met when you tested it so all multiplier are applied? Just by reading your thread im pretty sure that you are just missing some multiplier sometimes.
- Are you always using it at max fury? hota stacks x% fury cap so after 10 hits with max fury u should have your heaviest hit.
- Is your shout up at the 10th hit? (berserking + x% dmg from the shout buff)
- if you use “Edgemasters offensive aspect” even more crucial to be near max fury
- Are u using the legendary aspect of the expectant ? u can have a stacking dmg buff from your basic skill than.
- are u using “Limitless Rage” legendary aspect ? in this case after using a ability with max fury overcapping max fury gives you even more dmg stacking.
- barrier aspect for more dmg active?
My guess is, that you are simply forgetting one of your legendary aspects or something like that. Check the things above hope i could help you and keep bonking.
Hey, thanks for the reply =). But that was of course my thought as well, that there must be some modifier falling off or not being utilised.
However, I observed wildly varied damage fluctuations with the SAME HIT, on a group of monsters that were all vulnerable, for example.
One enemy eats a 2mil crit, one right next to him gets a 200k crit. Which baffles me. Even if, say, one monster was standing too far to count for the +close damage modifier, it shouldn’t be a 900% difference (particularly when, afaik, most of these modifiers are additive anyway), which is roughly what I am observing.
Also, I began to see ONLY the small hits against bosses / the butcher. This wasn’t the case few days ago when I’d easily charge in and two-shot the boss. The same boss suddenly takes a few minutes of bonking. I -must- be missing something, right?
As for the specific questions, yeah, I do keep fury management in mind, berserking is always up (specced into it quite heavily), so are shouts. You don’t observe any damage fluctuations whatsoever as a ww barb? (given the “plethora” of build options that we have, I’m gonna assume that’s what you play =D)
Yes im playing WW barb^^, but actually because i simply like WW and not barb.
I saw in a video of Rob2628 and read in a thread that Hota simply has the nature of being very inconsistent and yes WW ist very consistent.
I was wondering the exact same thing. Sometimes i crit for 4M, sometimes for 200k.
