Suggestion: Disable subtitles for in-game cutscenes

The addition of accessibility features like subtitles for everything is great and I’m of the mind that it should be enabled by default. However, I personally find subtitles, especially closed captioned subtitles, really distracting and it pulls me away from the story. I appreciate being able to disable them for cinematic cutscenes, but I would like to be able to disable them for in-game cutscenes as well. Hell, I’d be cool with disabling them throughout the game seeing as NPC dialogue shows up in the chat window anyway.

I understand that it’s a very subjective thing to be distracted by, but my personal dislike is because of situations like:

  • Closed captioned when a character is just grunting or making non-verbal noises.
  • The pacing of a character’s performance being somewhat ruined because the subtitle has their entire dialogue in it and doesn’t take into consideration dramatic pauses.
  • Spoiling off-screen reveals by having the name of the character who is speaking in the subtitle box.
  • Having an amazing looking scene being covered by a box with some text on it that I’m trying to not look at.

I really struggle with not seeing the subtitles and if I have to put effort into not looking at them. I hope I’m not alone in this

I’ve only just got the game and I find them extremely triggering and have got to the point where it’s mentally exhausting to continue playing.

Yes, every game with speech should have subtitles as an option for accessibility reasons.

What Blizzard don’t seem to understand is that some people do not want subtitles for equally valid accessibility reasons.

We need an option to turn all the subtitles off, please!

I’ve literally quit playing games in the past where I couldn’t turn off subtitles at all
