This part of the forum seems to be where suggestions are being made on the US forum, so I’m assuming that’s likely to be acceptable on the EU forum as well.
I’m thinking that you could borrow from Path of Exile or Runescape and have customisable player housing in the world. This could have a few benefits:
-
A new avenue for cosmetic monetization; certain assets or locations could be sold in the shop - I know I’d pay a fair amount to have a hangout spot with the ‘Vision of Tristram’ theme and background music!
-
An enhancement to the social aspect, as people will be able to show off their houses and hang out in them when they feel like it.
-
If the mechanism for placing objects within the player housing was created in an extensible manner, this could lead on to player-created game content in a similar manner to Dungeons and Dragons Online. That aspect alone could significantly increase the longevity and popularity of the game, to be honest.
-
It could allow players to create a ‘town’ where the NPC vendors/crafters they use most often are close to the waypoint, and decrease the time that must be spent running around in town without access to teleport/dash etc.
-
It could also make server stability a bit easier in the long run as well - if the player houses aren’t in the world but are teleported to (similarly to Path of Exile), they can be in their own ‘shards’ and require less dedicated resources to run than might be required for a player within a normal town. In addition, a player’s house could be permanently cached and reduce loading times for some systems.
I really hope this is something that is being/has been considered, if only so I can spend more time listening to the Tristram theme. Thanks for reading!
