I cant stand the rng of rolling affixes and tempers it’s so infuriating and need addressing.
Just have an additional option and have it cost an absolutely absurd amount like pay 10+mill gold and 500 veil crystals up front and choose the exact stat i want to roll an affix into.
Have it be more than 10mill idc i shouldnt be punished for something out of my control and atleast if it cost 50mill gold i know what im grinding for and i know ill earn i want at the end of the grind instead of the game outright refusing to give me the one stat i want and feeling like ive been robbed of all the time and materials i just grinded for. RNG is a fake and lazy way of implementing grind.
This shouldnt replace the rng version but should be an additional option so then for leveling gear u can just roll once or twice to get a slightly better stat. Have it say pay 10mill etc to choose a roll or get a random roll as another button next to eachother.
This is even more infuriating and dumb for the tempering since for the skill specific recipes its 1 in 4 or 5 chance you get the one you want and you only get 5 attempts or it ruins the item completely like idgaf about X skill when I’m using X skill, it’s so demoralizing and tacky and it takes away from the actual item drop because now it has to pass the tempering phase before you can get fully excited.
For the love of god this is a mobile game mechanic.
Side note its actually brainrot that when you roll a greater affix it doesnt remain a greater affix. How can i get excited about a greater affix dropping when the liklyhood of it being the stat i want is like 10% it just gets to the point where you see a greater affix and you think “oh great this will be useless oh wow i was right” or “oh yay the right greater affix to bad im gonna get fisted by the temper rng” these things literally ruin the hype of getting gear to drop coz there now to many RNG hoops to jump through and no guaranteed grind options that reward time instead of luck.
Sort it out, it needs to be guaranteed REAL grind to get the best items not fake grind where every step is RNG RNG RNG this isnt diablo imortal you already have our money let me put time in to get what i want.

Cudnt agree more. Getting the exact same, unwanted, crap 3-4 times in a row with limited attempts is just a garbage solution. Hell, getting affixes for stuff not on one’s skill tree is bad enough, but repeatedly? Even worse.
It definitely needs fixing, and now.

Agreed, as a melee rogue getting increased dmg to distant enemies 3 times in a row was a bad time, especially when the stat rolls are good. Had to get rid of an otherwise good item

Yep its sad that theses Devs always come up with new ways to totally destroy the fun we get from grinding and finding good gear. They finally listened and gave us a pretty good rework of the lootsystem and they still found a way to make this good change get a real bad sidetaste to it.
I mean Holy S… isn´t the grind for the perfect loot not enough rng? I found the perfect weapon, unlike all seasons this one was perfect in all ways possible. The 3 affixes were exactly those I wanted on my weapon. 2 of them were greater affixes and the last was a perfect roll and fully socketed. This was the one in a million drop not even in all seasons before was I this lucky. So I can say one year of D4 grinding gave me this drop and blizzards new way of completely brainless thought destroyed it within 1 minute.
I treid to temper on an affix with 3 ways to go so the chance would be 33.33% each roll. Well the first time I hit the affix it was a bad roll but whats worse, it was the last reroll. Then the second affix finished it off I got the most useless affix from the pool and that was almost perfect as if they showed me the middle finger. The priceless piece of gear turned into a worthless piece of junk within one minute.
THX Blizzard thats the way to go always look to destroy our Hopes instead of giving is something that makes us happy without a F…g catch to it, especially after all screw uos you have shoved in our face from the start of this game.

Totally agree, I don’t even get excited about gear drops anymore because I know there is a high chance that I brick the item when I temper it.
Or I won’t be able to use it since I lack the gold for enchanting which is still too expensive.

Try thinking of it this way. Tempering is not something you do to an item, it is part of the item - a necessary process. Until you temper, you don’t have a good item just a potentially good item.
When it doesn’t roll the affixes you wanted the end result is identical to if they just dropped with 5 affixes and 2 aren’t the ones you want.
The difference is that the Tempering system has 2 advantages:
-
You are able to choose from a limited pool of affixes so you are much more likely to get what you want than if the game rolled all 5 on drop.
-
It prolongs and intensifies the experience of finding a truly good item, because you feel invested in the process. This comes with the downside that when it doesn’t work out, your disappointment is also intensified.
If it dropped with 5 affixes and the first 3 are the right affixes and maybe even GAs, you would have that brief moment before reading the last 2 affixes of “Wow this item looks great!” but then within half a second you are disappointed to see the final 2 aren’t useful. Then you junk it (or maybe keep it for another build) and don’t think about it any more.
With Tempering, you have those minutes of having seen the first 3 affixes and imagining the potential - then the lows and (hopefully) highs of getting good/bad rolls on Tempering and also some risk based decisions - it rolled the right affixes but bad rolls, do you risk rerolling?
I am not saying this is the only way to think about it, but I think it makes Tempering a lot more enjoyable and less stressful to think of it this way. When Tempering doesn’t work out, you haven’t lost anything, any more than if an item dropped with 3/5 good affixes. It was never a perfect item.
I thought about it the same way as you do. But the chances of getting an upgrade later in the game are so slim that it only feels bad when it fails in tempering.
We are pretty much forced to trade at some point to get all the right affixes with 1 or 2 of them being greater. Bricking the traded item then immediately after spending potentially hundreds of millions of gold (especially in this season) is the absolute worst feeling. The least thing they could do is a fail safe where you could reset the item for a certain amount of gold or something else.
I just spent about 500m for 4 items that would have been a good upgrade - not even the absolute best - and all of them failed in tempering.
Came back after quitting briefly to give trading a chance but it makes tempering feel even worse tbh.
I completely agree that the tempering system is very, very, very badly developed. Rolling 1 out of 3 should have chanse of getting what you need around 33%, so how in 5 rolls is not happeing is a big question, to make it even worse on 3 items *5 times failed…
Imagene after a few weeks, you get 3 stars on an item after searching for 3 weeks and it feils … will ask for refund
Happened to the Amulet that I payed 1.5b for. Guess what I did afterwards.
Sounds like people are charging/paying way too much for what should be considered incomplete items.
I couldn’t agree more. Diablo 4 is all about going out and slaying some damn demons!
So why am I stuck in town FAILING to TEMPER an item?! If you want Flay Duration on a barb, it’s 1 out of 5 options for bleed augments. After you’ve FAILED to get a SINGLE Flay Duration on 3 separate polearms, you just logout and stop playing. Dead season.
I want to SLAY demons! And I want to do it with whatever build I want and not have to spend HOURS upon HOURS in town trying to craft a set of gear to allow me to slay demons in the way I want to.
This current crafting system is UNFUN and demotivates the player to play Diablo 4. It’s NOT respecting the time and effort people put into the game at all.
So how do we change that?
It’s easy. When you Temper an item, you should be able to pick EXACTLY what specific affix you want from the tempering menu, and then it is the % that is random, rather than both the affix and the %. That way, your items may not be 100% optimal, but at least they are PLAYABLE!
Also, disable trading. Yes. I said it. You’re supposed to be a gritty hero in a grimdark world that gains their power and gear from their own achievements. Not a Wall Street Whale, who just buys everything on a third site marketplace.
Just like in PoE, Diablo 4 is currently encouraging their playerbase to spend real money on currency and then buy all the best gear that you are never gonna find yourself in game from other players and bots.
Have a nice day out there, and hopefully, crafting will be improved when next season comes rolling!

Used way over 10mill to just get a armor affix on chest which was perfect other ways. Yet i failed to get the armor affix. Wtf. Dumb dumb dumb bs.
I spent two weeks grinding resources and gathered 1 million of each, just to upgrade only two items with 3 out of 3 affixes. On top of that, I spent another two weeks farming to get other items with 3 great affixes, which ended up getting ruined during enhancement.
The system is so terrible that I just snapped and deleted the game. It was such a horrible experience that I no longer have any desire to keep playing.
There are many things you have to suspend disblief for in Diablo, even within a fantasy setting, but tempering is in the top 3. First of all, tempering in the real world is a heat treatment, you don’t need additional materials for and only achieves a certain elasticity versus hardness. But fine, let’s extend the name to allow adding magical properties. Then this blacksmith must be very incompetent if they don’t know what their process is going to accomplish.
Why would you visit them again?
Finding an item with certain random properties is a normal thing in a game setting, but skillfully working a product with random results, that’s just doesn’t work.
Give me a specific set of magical materials to infuse (much better word for it) my gear with main stat, others for max life etc. Then you put the randomness in finding the ingredients.

Yes, this is the worst part of this game. RNG is always an awful part but tempering an item reached a new top of frustration. You find almost perfect item, you only need to add something through tempering… Then you have wasted item just because you were not able to get what you wanted. Just before a moment I tried to obtain an Ice Armor Duration on chest item. Instead it rolled something else three times in the row. Another wasted item. Thank you so very much. Please let me know when you change that.
Having the same exact same mods roll 6 times on two separate items (that’s supposed to be less than a 1:500,000 chance) just made me quit season 9. No one’s got time for that.
Blizzard’s RNG has always been buggy and D4’s is worse than even D3’s, but creating a system that allows those bugs to literally brick items in a game that revolves around them is absurd. What an absolutely brain dead mechanic.
No thanks, and goodbye. Maybe next season, but TBH the chance of even that just dropped significantly.
Played diablo trough 30 years… D1 was great and you felt an increase everytime you upped a level and bigger gear dropped og was offered by wirt
D2 also great took me roughly 2 years to complete Hell and also felt like every couple of hours gave you a bigger piece of gear as you leveled and got bigger stats dropping
also you coul keybind ALL spells and quick swap in combat to get use of every kind of fun thing to the situation
D 3 was somewhat not as good… limited spells and Set gear made for only few ways to play each character… less than a month in the game and i felt maxed out with ounly torments to do which really gave nothing new to my character
D4 is even worse that D3… instead of set items meta… Few uniques set the mark… most uniques are unusable in T4… most skills are unplayable in t4
and the tempering and masterwork makes for alot of “feel bad situations”
having famaly and kids makes that i only get a few hours a week… and then i end those 2 hours with a feel bad sitation of my hours spent gave me nothing to show, no increase, and wasted grind in d1 and d2 you at least had +1 to all stats after those hours wheter it was from drops or from spending gold to get items, transmuting runes directly
in d 4 i transmuted runes to the same ones over and over again never getting them to “next rank” again feel bad situations
i played only in vessel of hatred but after a few weeks i know that diablo is no longer my kind of game as the first and second game was
