The Pit - Rethink Design Please

First of all - best season so far I’ve played them all and enjoy S4 most so far.

So I really don’t understand why the Pit has such a bad design. From one Tier to another, its simply not possible to progress. At least for us casual Players. The most annoying thing about them is balancing.

While shredding easily through the Dungeon itself, its simple impossible to beat those Bosses with ridicolus amount of health while dodging every possible one shot mechanic. And even if you train patterns for hours, its simple not possible to progess even one tier up anymore because then you run into problems with time / damage dealt / health of boss.

The only possible way to progrtess further- is using that freaking bolt elixir ,and even there u must be lucky with boss rotation. If boss spawns no minions… no luck.

As said Im casual player with limited time and medium skills compared to a pro streamer or whatever. I simply enjoy shredding dungeons while progressing further.

Ive played around for hours with damage and health, but i dont get the reson for repecing just to progress one Tier further and then have the same Problem again.

Dont get this as moaning around, As I saw there are plenty of people whit same opinion. I just want to provide feedback as I really enjoy the game  and hopefully someone will think about Pit Design

that’s the issue, Everybody want’s it easy -.- it’s ENDGAME stuff… if they make it any weaker players like myself and others who LIKE a challenge will lose out… blizzard can’t dull down pit just for casual players as it ruins it for pros…

And you think we should have possibility to infinitely raise Pit tiers? If not, then what should be stopping you (become a wall) if not time / damage dealt / health of boss?

Imagine to play only pit in Season 4! It is great and fun? It is completetly poor design! Devs you have to give us different way to farm instead of only tunnelvision pit! What about whispers, world quest and move on who can drop materials we need to upgrade. Just force you to do pit all days? Stop it!

I will agree with you its the best season so far, keep building your level up with the master working and the pit will become easy step by step

Oh no no… I didn’t say that. I’ve just said that power of your character shouldn’t be scaled infinitely. It means that you will lack damage or survivability at some point.

Probably it’s the best season, but it means that the game is in 6/10 state for me. And observing the changes that have been made so far, I do not predict this game to become any better. Too much D3 direction, too little D2/PoE/LE direction. Just a mobile grinder for 2-3 days of fun.

I havent mention we 'need it easier" - dont get it wrong. I’ts just imbalanced at a certain point. The first 100 Tiers scaling seems to be ok (at least for me). But then it gets insane (my opinion).

Why I’m able to clear a Tier 115 Pit in 4mins - just to face the pit boss another boring 11 minutes, just to clear 1/4 of its health and then run into time limit ? For me the Pit Boss looks like - “just throw anything with one shot mechanic and insane health at them”. For me thats not balanced

Everything is simply locked behind one shot and insane trillions of health when it comes to pit boss. It would make more sense to raise monster health and difficulty and keep bosses at a sane level. Thats just my 2 cents

The experience wouldn’t be as frustrating as its now and the motivation would be higher.
For me as my second really optimized character, its not worth grinding anymore as i did this the last 96h of playtime. Sure - I would be able to gain another 5 Tiers for example with higher affixes here and there, but until i get them, next season will start xD And the next 96 hours for a few Pit tiers is simple not worth it. Also the rewards are lacking to motivate.

For me it looks like 200 Tiers are by far too much… With that goal miles away, its getting uninteressting

Also why are the Monster Levels locked behind 199 ?

The pit has the problem from nm dungeons plus nonesense Boss-Hp scaling and one-shots. Thats not even for handygames acceptable. The Dev’s need to play the game and/or get passionate about it or find someone that is and stop making decisons like a business student from a internet university. The pit is extremly boring and unrewarding and to addd insult to injury, it is way to easy. Its a chore. Let me do hell tides all day but spare me this first-year-student game design accident. Funny thing is D3 had good rifts, why is this so bad? D3 has no balance and is just chaos but at least fun. This is not.

Pit feels too similar to Nightmare Dungeon or even Side Dungeon.

D3 problem was that it was just that Rift spam and they all felt same. They could have just made the world bigger and ever-changing.

Im curious why we have Blue Quests in D4? Sure they give lore bits but they are completely worthless to do otherwise.

It should be difficult
After all it’s endgame

I absolutely agree, bosses in Pit are almost unplayable from level 60 - before Blizzard fixes it, I’ll leave Diablo, goodbye

Whut? If GR were not balanced then you didn’t play D3 much. Imagine how unbalanced it was at the beginning. I remeber how they balanced one shot affixes, not avoidable attacks from mobs, maps with dead end, backtracking monster packs diversity, shrines density, builds balance, character balance etc. Some classes were doing 20 gr lower than other. It took years to make it relatively balanced. That’s why i knew what Pit gonna look like right after they have announced it. TBH i think they did a nice work for content that was created in a hurry.

But what most important is, that there is no way to make anything balanced in HnS game. All you can do is to disable damage numbers, any timers and content scaling numbers. Just like the competition does. I don’t care about number when i play PoE and still can have more fun than in D4, because i can focus more on building character and finding/crafting items than in calculating damage numbers.

My immortal Monk is still a thing and certain classes can bug the holy cow level out of the rifts to reach way highter then the rest, soo balance is not a thing BUT it is not needed. Thats the point. Diablo does not need balance like WoW or GW2 or FFXIV nor like a E-Sports game. Fun is the most important and after that all classes need to be able to do all content. Thats it. D4 is not an MMo, its not even a good multiplayer game. So why dont we stop pretending and go full smack-a-lot at the mobs and bosses? Focus on the strength instead of this nonesense “game as a service” esspacialy when you dont have a plan to fuel this. I think thats the worst part, they dont have a plan for “GAS”, they dont know how games like Fortnite, Genshin or LoL keeping their gremlin hordes playing and thats the problem. It does not matter but Fortnite has damn load of stuff and content and reason for their hordes to log in. D4 is lacking even on basics. The pit is very basic content and lacking. GRifts are better then this, by far. Why not copy ? Whats about the knowledge from D2 and D3 ? Do they not talk ? No documents ?

Because there is no single person in Blizzard at the moment that worked there 20-25 years ago. There are probably not many staff left from old D3. So the effect is that they learn all things by doing again all mistakes of previous teams.

They copied crafting system from Last Epoch, but they did it awfully. Why? Because it’s easy to find what is good for the game, but the hardest thing is to understand why it’s good. And knowing “why” comes from passion for the game and experience in genre and previous iterations of franchise. Look at executive producer Rod Ferguson. This is the guy who had nothing to do with hack n slash genre. He if famous for destroying Gears of War franchise. This is the guy who said that players who played hundreds of hours in beta have the same chances to get first to 100lvl as the players who see the game for the first time. I remember his post on X about having fun with thorns Necromancer build a few sesons ago. He is a coach-dad-gamer with no idea about the genre. That’s why Diablo 4 looks like this after a year.

People who work at Blizzard at the moment did not play Diablo 1 & 2 or first 10 years of WoW. And it shows on every facet.

Exactly. I’m afraid the main problem with D4 is that these people don’t play the game. If they did, lots of things would be fixed without waiting for us to complain, because they are really obvious and come clear with just a few hours of playing.

I agree… best season so far… just needs a few issues fixed

It’s end game, yeah, But when you got OS at level 70 when you have a full build pushing up to 139, there is a REAL problem. If we wanted another soul like we would play soul like game.

False ! You still can be OS by shadow boss at level 70 even you did 100 pit just before.
