Hi all,
I recently installed Diablo4 via Steam. I then had my first boss encounters, starting the game. Thanks to all the previous entries in this forum, I was at least able to get to the second boss the “log-in to Diablo4 server”.
When starting the game from Steam, it would freeze at the “Blizzard Entertainment” screen & crash. After some review of the threads, I found out, to try setting DisableChromaEffects to 1. (C:\Users{yourAccountName}\OneDrive\Documents\Diablo IV\LocalPrefs.txt)
This did not help me to get past the “Logo-Boss” until finding the entry “spamming” left-click. (Setting + left-clicking)
Now I was able to leave this boss behind and was faced with the log-in to the server. Which now results again in a crash…
I have noted that some reported NVMe SSDs being an issue… Bad enough, the logging of the crash within EventViewer and other sources does not provide any insights.
I opened a Ticket to support, hopefully they will have an idea for additional steps.
Some troubleshooting tips from support included:
- Check Storage - Done
- USB & additional displays - Done
- Nvidia Control Panel Settings - Done
- Power Settings (Created new high performance) - Done
- Delete Diablo 4 folder & Validated Installation (Steam) - Done
- Disable Nvidia Overlay (Through geforce experience settings) - Done
- Temporarily Exit OneDrive - Done
- Uninstall Razer Software - Done
- Opt-Out of AMD User Experience - Done
- Updated Intel Killer Network Device (Wifi adapter) - Disabled the Optimizations before the update → Done
- create new admin account and try there
The file {YourDrive}:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Diablo IV\FenrisDebug.txt included at one point information about my sound devices. Pointing an issue in that section… Furthermore, it was recommended to start WIN with secure boot. I returned the game to steam might pick it up at a later time.
Just in case that does not help, there could also be a conflict with another running program or service causing problems. Try rebooting the laptop using Selective Startup:
Press Windows Key+R.
Type msconfig and press Enter.
Select Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items.
Select the Services tab.
Check Hide all Microsoft services.
Note: Skipping this step may prevent your computer from rebooting correctly.
Click Disable all.
Click Apply then click OK.
Click Restart. If the game loads properly you can go back to Selective Startup and re-enable startup items a couple at a time until you figure out which one might be causing it.
