VEry bad lagging, rubberband and stattering issues

Can’t play the new season due to the above mentioned

then its only u hahaahaha go figure try something more creative man

its happening to me aswell. no idea but it is unplayable

Same here. I move like I stutterstep.. a fast step and then a few lagged very slow steps that feel like I’m moving through glue (fps dropping to 12-16 every few secs too). Completed local pc and network/connectivity troubleshooting and found nothiung wrong, Will try to upgrade gfx drivers for nvidia 3070 and see if that helps.

Don’t usually have lag issues with D4.

/edit: Gfx driver update did not fix it either. Game basically near unplayable. May just need to wiat a few days.

I am experiencing the exact same issue as you described (the constant stopping, “walking through glue” feeling, and sudden slow motion/stuttering). It’s making the game almost unplayable.

I have already tried a number of common fixes, but none of them worked:

Turning off Cross-Network Play (which usually solved similar issues in Season 10).

Clearing the cache and verifying game files.

Disabling specific GPU features (like Anti-Lag for AMD cards).

Trying different graphical settings.

The problem seems to be directly related to the new patch or the current season’s stability, possibly high packet loss on the server side. Hopefully, the developers can look into this soon.

[solved?]

TLDR: After trying a variety of fixes, it seems to be resolved now (knock on wood) after re-installing the game from scratch.

*********

NB: I’d noticed in game that every few sec, my fps would drop from 80-90 (I limited the max fps setting to 90 and I play at low gfx settings) to 10-25, then go back up for a few secs, then drop briefly etc. Which coincided with the lag spikes/stutter steps I experienced.

I tried the following fixes to no avail:

  • Tried other Blizzard/D4 account on same pc - same issue >> so it’s not my account
  • Tried my main account on other pc - no issues >> so it seems to be pc specific
  • Husband playing on his pc which is basically a twin to mine , on the same network/internet connection, has no issues >> it’s not the network, LAN cables/routers /fibreoptic modem or internet connection
  • Cleared Blizzard D4 / Bnet cache (and rebooted) - no difference
  • Moved game files to the other SSD drive (same as bnet) - no difference
  • Reset all in-game settings to default and ran a new char with no cosmetics or pet - no difference (also tried crossplay on/off)
  • Checked my nvidia driver settings and applied nvidia high performanc eprofile to all apps (incl. d3, d4, bnet etc) - no difference
  • for completion sake: updated nvidia rtx 3060 (mobile) gfx drivers (as mentioned above) to latest game-ready version - no difference

Not tried:

  • I did NOT try any D4 ‘repair’ option as that has never worked for me before (would rather re-install the game)
  • I haven’t tried to clear our my DNS cache, release IP etc, to hope and resolve any resource conflicts to do with my machine only.
  • I haven’t tried to disable one or two of my additional monitors (running gaming laptop + 2 additional monitors), just in case that makes a difference.
  • I haven’t re-installed my entire system.

Final fix attempt, which seemed to work:

  • re-installed entire D4 game from scratch

Other considerations:

Since it happened all of the sudden right after downloading the latest (s11) patch/update, I suspect that some change on the Blizzard side seems to have been incompatible with my pc or game files (which is weird as my husband runs the same rig with no issues).

Since there are only a few posts on the forums referring to similar issues, it’s not widespread.

My basic setup: Lenovo Legion 5-15ACH6H (82JU), AMD Ryzen 5600H, RTX 3070 (mobile) incl. latest drivers, 32gb, Lenovo nvme sd + samsung evo 990 ssd, 2 ext. monitors, wired network/mouse/keyboard connection, no recent system changes (plenty of space on drive). WIn 11 pro (incl latest security fixes but not yet 25H2 update).

Since today everything with other players around is giving me a timeout

[correction - not solved]

Got about 30-60 mins of unlagged D4 gameplay. Then left the game and when I came back, the lag/stutterstepping/glue experience was back.

Not sure how to solve it at this time. May have to open support ticket.

Hoping some more folks will find their way here, if they’re expoeriencing the same issue since s11…

Hello everyone,

I was struggling with the severe rubberbanding and stuttering issues that many users are experiencing. My character was constantly stopping and moving like it was “walking through glue,” making the game unplayable, especially after the latest patch.

I tried literally every single common fix suggested here, including:

Disabling Cross-Network Play.

Disabling AMD Anti-Lag and other GPU-related features.

Clearing cache and verifying game files.

Deep Windows network resets (IPv6, TCP/IP stack).

Adding the -D3D11 launch option.

None of the software solutions worked.

✅ The Solution (Hardware/Network Related)

The problem was finally traced back to my home Mesh Wi-Fi setup.

My setup was: Main Router (from my ISP) connected wirelessly to a Mesh Satellite Node which was providing the internet to my gaming PC via Ethernet cable.

The issue was caused by instability and packet loss on the Wi-Fi link between my Main Router and the Mesh Satellite Node. Even though my PC was connected via a stable cable, the quality of the wireless “backhaul” connection was poor, leading to constant disconnects and corrections from the Blizzard server.

After I reconfigured and stabilized the Mesh network setup (i.e., making sure the satellite node had an excellent, stable connection to the main router), the rubberbanding completely stopped.

I have been playing flawlessly all weekend long with zero lag or rubberbanding since applying this fix.

If you are using a Wi-Fi Repeater, Powerline Adapter, or a Mesh System connected wirelessly, check the stability and signal quality of that specific wireless hop. This might be the real culprit, not the game client or the main server.

Hope this helps someone else!

Thanks, appreciate your tips and glad to hear it works for you, finally.

In my case, I’ve switched to our backup pc which is essentially the same hardware only with a rtx 3060 instead of 3070 (on the same network setup, cable, router etc) and am experiencing no issues.

But I might try 2 more things on the main pc, based on your experience:

  1. releasing/flushing DNS/IP etc to basically reset network memory or settings related to this particular mac address or ip.. just in case. /edit I saw you had tried that to no avail.. but I don’t have any wifi/mesh connection in the mix for this system (although I did use wifi for testing purposes some time back on this machine)… gotta try something. Will also check general router settings, remove this pc etc.

  2. turning off hardware acceleration in my browser, which tends to run in parallel to the game /edit2: in case I run into 8g vram limits with the s11 patch, for some reason.

Will report back if anything helps. Cheers again.
