Very melee unfriendly?

I played a all yellow Barb and have 0 need for legys and the uniques that i’ve seen from datamines so far. 1 legy would be nice to have but isn’t mandatory. I don’t even need +rank items and still mow down everything… well more or less ^^. The hardest part is that only one attribute is realy usefull and everything else is meh :D.

The game is very unfriendly to melee. It’s difficult to avoid an enemies attack once it starts swinging (maybe once we get more move speed this will change?) so you’re always taking chip damage, although the bigger enemies will telegraph their big hits so at least you can avoid those easily. Some bosses or areas with a couple elites can have a ton of effects all over the place or that they’re just standing in, projectiles that you have to run around/through just to get to them, all the tiny little mobs chasing you hitting you constantly or you spend even more time getting rid of them before you chase the boss around again.
A good example is Den Mother, you’re just always getting hit by her if you happen to have a melee oriented build and if you’re not faster than her then she’s chasing you and constantly attacking (thanks to the swing animation starting while you’re running, neat change but makes enemies more dangerous too). At the time when I found her I didn’t have (druid) barrier active at the time as I was still messing around with skills, so I spent the whole fight running around healing with roar and waiting on minions for potion drops. Obviously this isn’t representative of how end game is going to be, but the leveling experience matters too and a newer/less skilled player is going to have a bad time in that situation (my dad has played every diablo game and that would be a very difficult and frustrating fight for him).
By contrast, the rogue I made that was using barrage had a much easier time against Vhenard than my druid did. I think I used 1 potion, I was a lower level with less skills and upgrades, and I never actually felt like I was in danger.

Sort of, not really, you’re misremembering a little bit. I’ve been playing through D3 vanilla (no 1.04 update) on my ps3 the last week or so and I’m remembering how much I hated all the effects that you can’t avoid. The invisible/immune enemies (act 2 snake demon guys and the leapers) that can’t be attacked and get free hits on you, jailer and vortex that always just hit you (and in inferno they often instantly killed you, yay gear check), and it had a LOT of effects on the screen just like D4 has. The criticism that D4 is just D3.5 is well deserved because it resembles D3 vanilla quite a bit.

I agree this game currently is not melee friendly, some of these fights with all the stuns, freeze, tons of mobs and low DPS for melee, just make it unfriendly.

Only using boots with 2 dashes made things far more better for me. Having only one dash is in a few scenarios an automated death thou.

These do not affect bosses.

In my opinion, a Paladin or a Crusader, in full armor and with a shield, is a TANK, focused on Defense. A Barbarian, in light armor and wielding a two-handed sword or ax, should be focused on Attack and in dealing damage - High Damage.

In the Beta, the Barbarian does not generate enough Fury to be able to do enough damage. I did not feel that I was a Barbarian, I was not powerful. It took to many hits for a monster to die.

Out of sorc, necro, barb, rogue and druid the barb is the tank. Then came the true tank, the pally.
