I agree melee feels bad early game, I really don’t care if it feels good after getting good Legendaries. You should be able to level and have fun as the base character, some of us have really bad luck getting good gear. The fun and consistency of a Barb and Druid should not require you to get lucky and get good gear. It should be fun and consistent in rares as well.
It’s a really sad state of affairs! LOL
Fixable by:
- Boosting survavility in melee champs.
- Making non-linear active skills, so that in first levels it’s not 10% increase but 300% (damage 10 to 30) increase, and from level 4-5 it’s instead 20% increase. (damage 150 to 180)
However, I like how it is right now. I mean, hard. The issue is rather that sorc and rogue kills too easy.

No… certain skills kill easy… they are NOT op! The skills the devs played with already, not untested skill combos… melee seems most untested and actually infact is balls. Like pure stank.
melee are rogue (OP) melee druid (op) barb if you know how to do it (op), there is no problem.
You have to know your role, also barb have a legendary to vampirism enemies, so just search where you get it, maybe in legs, or head, etc. And then obtain the best magic item you can have, and focus on regeneration of life.
Also, people don´t care about crit chance and crit damage but i play with 16 chance and 95 crit dmg so i have 150 intelligence dmg, is around 500 dmg overall, i went for all lilith altars they give you bonus on things like levels, and i can handle, i trully believe if you work on your barb, because rogues and druids are no tanks. Maybe you can handle, but you cannot chose a role witouth knowing what role it has.
yep but they do die so easily if you don´t have defenses.
Also most of the people focus on basic defense, but they need elements defense.
The worst part in world boss is not dmg is poison dmg, if you have 0 resistance you will lose all your levels.
Considering that people think oh i have more skill points in resistance or in health, i will live, sorry, but you need elemental, most of the bosses have one or even 4 elemental skills (the harderst) so if you go swirling like i will kill everything instantly is ridiculous, i´ve seen people complaining that swirling is bad, man, thiis skill in diablo 3 was overpowered, you should suffer at least of nausea doing that all the time. They did high keys only swirling and leting the group alone.
But now they have fixed to be a companion, in teams, also that´s the point to make groups, you earn more exp, also more rewards. And if you don´t help you team mates they die and there is a wipe, like all mmos, REMEMBER this will be an rpg MMO, not just another rpg.
THey are focusing on teamplay, not i go alone against the world, im a barbarian i can eat a cow. STOMP STOMP, PUNCH PUNCH.
Also the earthquake is a freaking break build if you jump into the boss and do it and then leave and then restore health, and then do earthquake, etc. Is better than swirling like a dancer.
Rogues is not that they are op, is more that they have to stealth, they insta die, in everything. That´s why they can use arrows also melee.

You people just ignore the important stuff for barb, it´s actually the easiest class if you know how and if you accomplish the same you may even think it needs a nerf xd

I would love to see you here after the beta when only paying members are allowed. I made my point and many agree unless they have been silenced.
Welcome to every Blizzard game ever made. Only way to fix this is melee way more diversity for maneuverability, in effect we need better skills to get in and out of aoe etc.
And invulnerability or natural dodge, life leech etc.
Especially the melee classes are felt to be the much more fun classes, because they just play more intense and that fits well here to D4.
If then rather the Caster classes are too OP and as already in D3 disturbs quite simply this construction and dismantling mechanics with the resources. That they also have the same system as a barbarian only differently named, makes the thing just lousy and you feel that too…
A mage who first charges up to be able to cast his spells is simply not good and works much worse than with the barbarian, werewolf or werebear, because here it just seems to fit.
Whereas the werewolf could have had a different mechanic… Bloodlust or something, which would have been more of a combo system and his attacks would have adjusted level by level, which would then have manifested itself in transforming attacks.
So a bite at level 2 bloodlust would have become a throat ripper with bleeding on the back and at level 3 from the same basic ability bite a jump and 2 quick claw strikes when the enemy is on the ground, which also hit enemies next to it and as a 3rd final attack then to the throat of the mob let him inflict heavy damage and bleeding damage. Would certainly have been nice as a kind of rage system only differently named.
I wasn’t able to finish Act I with my Barb even on the lower difficulty. Every encounter with an Elite mob turned out to be a nightmare for me. It killed all the fun. The Barb played completly unbalanced and I was in a disadventage all the time. This was the Warrior class from the first Diablo all over again.
Read my post or thread again. You can do that very early starting with the shouts, the leap skill and the aoe stun cd. You propably oversaw the other stuff barb can already unlock and only focussed on basic skills. Can only repeat myself, it´s not the class or the game, it´s you who played the class wrong.
I changed to veteran pretty quick and killed all whats possible in this beta easily just facetanking and spaming dps skills. But it looks like people don´t listen to me thus they won´t understand how barb works^^

i dislike barbarian, i didn´t played, i just saw so many cries from 2 freacking weeks that i had to comment, is not only you, there are a lot of people saying the same, is like people being melee and crying because sorcerer was bit more op, when SORCERERS will deal the most damage from all of characters, (stated by blizzard) that means necro too. Because is a sorcerer from death. Is still a sorcerer.
I don´t listen, i read, also i´ve watched so many videos complaining about barbarian feeling weak, dude, in the first levels everyone is weak, if you pull all the dung you die.
Also stated, barbarian will be a tank, no dps, they are speculations of a support class being more healing or defense buff.

So also, about deaths, man, sorry if you died, but it doesn´t mean it is bad, is just you had bad luck, i almost died in the first dungeon too, also from lag. But when you encounter a elite, or a boss, you first have to watch, what affixes do have, it deals frost? it deals, rays? frost? vampiric?
I had trouble with the first boss with sorcerer because i was only 2 powers. And in the werewolf stance, i died and before coming in again i played the campain so i could get better level, and better resistance, etc. Is an open world, just the first dungeon is obligatory at first level, but man, is meant to be difficult if you don´t watch what elites or bosses do.
I´ve have died so many times, that is normal for me, and don´t need to state every time and say the game is bad. Or something is bad.
Also i´ve talked more from UI aspects, or an adviser for pve encounters, specially those who needs more than 2 for playing, like world boss, that first time we died 10 times, and then i had everything broken, and the boss leaved.
So…Next try better,
1 boot implicit is to reduce evade cooldown by 0.5s after using an attack. How about adding 1 more line: double for melee attack?
So that melee char can evade twice as often as range/caster
Maybe a Melee legendary gear attribute? Or a affix on yellow gear?
Or rework armor to give melee heavy armor where mobile classes don’t/won’t or can’t use.
Needs some sort of good design fix. Not that arbitrary 30% damage reduction because your melee - that was not a good fix.
I changed my point of view after some experimenting with the Barb. F every other puny class I joind the Barb masterrace. This char will be so heaviely nerfed again and again it’ll be pure comedy gold .
All those strongest x build barb guides on youtube are a joke because with that gear they use you one shot everything with whatever skill build you use.
But what i refered to yet was beginners gameplay and midgame with mediocre gear. And with no OP gear you definitely have to learn what´s really important(mitigation shout, absorb/barrier skill, basic jump skill with leech upgrade etc). Ofc, if you overgear everything you don´t need any of this…
I watched a lot of those guides and deathblow + berserk + dual wield fury skill build is way better than what i saw lol, especially for bosses. Partly i do that with trash gear already because deathblow combined with berserk build is the actual real shait.
Also, barb has leech… a looot. Just use the right skills(like basic jump skill already leeches with it´s upgrade).
There is really no melee disadvantage for barb, you can jump targets all the time and facetank allmost everything.
Deathblow and dual wield fury skill also do some decent aoe job with shortest frames while such as ww or upheaval are slow and only good with op gear.
