What am i doing wrong?

started a sorceress today and i feel very weak and squishy
mana runs out very quick and base skills really dont seem to generate that much

lvl25
my rotation is to spam chain lightning (5pts)from a distance (about 3 casts before im drained)
cast frost nova (2pts) if anything gets close
teleport (2pts) away
then try and get mana by casting frost bolt (1pt)

ive got some points in lightning orb (3pts) but its so slow and useless imo
same with lightning spear (3pts), which seems to arc around enemies a lot of the time instead of actually hitting them. (i had it once circling a boss constantly)

in boss battles i get destroyed now. i basically run out of mana after 3 chain lightnings and im then running around like an idiot waiting for region whilst the boss’s adds chip away at my health

this is on tier 1 btw

ive gotta be playing it wrong or something. i feel weaker than my necro at the same level - at least golem could taunt

That build youre running is very much legendary bonus dependant.

Somewhere in the east of fractured peaks is a dungeon that gives you an aspect that restores mana when chain lightning bounces back from you, that will entirely remove your mana problems on singletarget.

And yes, its weaker than necro, because everything is weaker than necro. But regardless of that, the chainlightning build is very mana hungry. Once you have enough skillpoints grab the crackling energy point in chain lightning and then stuff 3 points into invigorating conduit, from there on its a lot of running around like pacman eating small balls for mana refillment.

Here, this is the baseline of what i am running. The entire idea behind it is having crackling energy as mana reg and cooldown reduction for unstable currents with chainlihgnting being the big hitter.

with this being the full build then

everything is weaker than necro??
i mean theres load of people complaining that it sucks. especially minions

i thought sorceress, barb and druid were the go-to classes for dis etc

There are always people, that complain, that xyz sucks.

that build is very interesting. differs from mine quite a bit

seems the build is entirely reliant on critical hits

is chain lightning the only skill that can form crackling energy balls?

There is one point above invigorating energy, that gives your lucky hits a chance to spawn them.
If the generation of chainlightning isn’t enough for you, you can skill the one from spark (base ability) aswell.
Also don’t be afraid to experiment with it. I didn’t check any guides and just swapped stuff around as it seemed to have made sense. Just haven’t needed to do anything more with it lately, because i have yet to run into a roadblock

€ oh and before the confusion arises about that one point in firebolt; I have a paragon trait, that gives me 5% dmg increase for every different element i deal damage with. And on my gear i have dmg increase/decrease against/from burning enemies

as necro summoner which gone in t4 in solo at lvl 63 i firmly disagree :P, anytime the problem is that the game is poorly balanced so the real endgame classes/builds are 2: druid bear and barb ww, then come all the rest but not in S tier, it is quite evident that to have 2 only classes/build really viable in endgame content demands for adjustments from Blizzard, otherwise would be very useless to have so much variety of choices and feel obliged to play a measly handful of them.

As werebear, it’s my time to disagree I guess  If you think werebear is real endgame build, think again. Notice how are the mobs tuned in NM. If I were to rate the difficulty of mobs in WT4 NM dungs, it goes like this:

Boss - 1000
Elites - 10000
Regulars - 1

Werebear is really good at killing large packs of regulars with some weaker elites mixed within. It is performing extremely poorly on one chonky target though. So, is being the specialist for handling the 1 difficulty mobs good for NM dungs? GOD NO :D. Werebear is so bad at solo pushing. I have to play in party with rogue friend who deals with the elites for me. If I wanted to push solo ladder, werebear wouldn’t even cross my mind. Maybe storm wolf, because it has better time adjusting to situation. 10 tornados spread out in large pack - good. 10 tornados dancing on boss - also good. Meanwhile Pulv on large pack - godly. Pulv on one target - kill me now.

It has been a horrible experience playing on Sorc. Nothing feels good, skill cooldowns are ridiculous and the mana system is completely terrible in every way, Makes me feel that the character itself is just not capable of being the hero of the game since they are inherently weak

Teleport into mob pack, cast Nova, dps, evade, dps, cast shield, dps, Evade, dps, Cast Nova, dps, teleport, finish off.

its not you the game is shit, barbarian and druid is op and rogue is playable. They nerfed sorc for some reason when sorc needs to be finished and reworked. Chain lightning is a big issue, travel time is long cast animation is long, damage is low. So everyone else is just running around pressing 1 aoe button that is instant across the whole screen and one shots everything. But sorcerer you gotta play either arc laash or ice shards and very specific specs. You must use frost nova and certain abilities etc. The whole class needs to be deleted and remade.

All classes are like this. All are horrible, and some abilties dont synergy with another.
And by horrible i mean design, not Damage.

Sorcerer with such high mana cost of spells and such slow mana regen has absolutely no use for masteries.

Barbarian i feel more a mage than actual barbarian. Only Rend feels like a barbarian build, not magican hammer or spin for the win.

You made a sorc, that was your first mistake.
